I installed OS Suse linux 10 with SP3 through BFS. After installation when it rebooted throughing an error :

After installing cpq_cciss-2.6.14-7.sles9.x86_64.rpm on HP DL385, the server did not boot at all. It was hanging on code...
The server was also hanging on Failsafe, Linux and HP-initrd-2.6.5-7.191-smp
So I decided to jumpstart the server with the disks installed as it was, but it was also hanging on:
Loading kernels sles9_amd64 initrd
Ready.
When I installed the cpq_cciss-2.6.14-7.sles9.x86_64.rpm, the output is attached:
Did anyone have similar issue? Do you know how to boot the HP Linux DL385 with Non-RAID as it was hanging on Slot 0 HP Smart Array 6i Controller (64MB, v2.6 1 Logical Drive.
i currently have a Macbook and would like to install it there as a duel boot with OSX.
Tried to get it going using bootcamp but its just annoying me now, do i have to install windows first before installing Linux or is there another way around this since i need a authentic version of windows, to which i will never use i just want the linux and OSX running.
"Something" happened to my friend's computer, and now he somehow expects me to know how to fix it. Sigh.The symptoms: There are two partitions - a Windows XP partition and a larger partition for SuSE 10.3 it seems. He can boot into the Windows, but not into the SuSE anymore. However, he can boot using the Fail-safe method.
I know this is very vague. but I can't get to the computer at present to check things for myself. Do any of you know what a possible cause of these symptoms could be and how to fix the problem?
I have a multiboot system chainloaded by SUSE grub. I have installed CENTOS on an extended partition thrice with various grub install options available in install media. I am unable to chainload CentOS with SUSE grub or PCLinuxOS grub.

I am having trouble booting off a cdrom using isolinux. I see the isolinux prompt and it seems to boot but I run into:

I am seeing a udev error message on booting that I have not seen before with LInux and which I cannot interpret. My Suse 11.4-KDE installation is fairly new. My system is a System 76 PanP4 Pangolin that originally ran Ubuntu.Uname -a returns: Linux linux-zcga 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. My video is a Geforce 9300M with an nVidia driver.A Google search turns up the fact that similar error messages have been reported with Fedora, Ubuntu, Meego and Gentoo. These frequently have had something to do with sound and in at least one case the advised correction was to reinstall udev. I can see where bugs were filed but with no clear response. Some of these go back several years, the most recent is within the last few months. I did not see a posting that involved Suse.
1.Can someone tell me what these error messages mean?
2.Does this pose a problem?Everything seems to work normally on my system once I am through the boot process.
3.If this is a problem how does one fix it?
I installed HP multifunction inkjet printer.Since then, I'm always noticing the blue HP HPLIP servicestatus icon in the system tray. It appears that I can onlyhide or quit it once it has started.Is there a way not even have it started from the system booting?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe suse 10.0 64 bit partition on my box stops booting when it is setting up the cmos clock. The suse 10.0 32 bit partition boots up without a problem. I never had a problem with the suse 10.0 64 bit partition up until now. Is it possible to fix the problem using puppy linux and editing a configuration file? I do not think it is a hardware issue if the other partition on the drive boots up. Would puppy linux be a good way to backup files from this partition or can I mount the partition using the 32 bit os?

But on CentOs , users couldn't login using nis username.I have mounted home directory using nfs in fstab . I can switch to nis users homedirectory only when i am root. But nis users could'nt login on reboot.' ypcat passwd username ' is showing the output . No selinux is enabled in the client .Is there is any problem with Suse server to Centos Client in nis ??

Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again

I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?
I am new to Linux and need to add user access to a particular directory on a Linux server (SUSE 9.1).I am able to access the directory via telnet however I do not know the commands to add the user. userBFA needs readwrite access to the SMF directory. Please let me know if any additional information is needed.

We have done an installation on a blade server (HP) for RHEL4.5.
The server have an HP smart array 2200 controller and during installation it can see the controller and disks just fine.
The installation completes up to the point where the system needs to reboot , however after the reboot it does not start up again and get stuck at the message: "Trying to boot from drive c:"
We used the rescue option to mount the installation and cant find nythign wrong, even with the grub setup (except that it points to hd96 as its primary disk). we tried changing this to hd0 as well but still no luck.
After about 3 installations we are still not having any luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIv setup a postfix mail server.. and setup my MX records within DNS. I configured the posfix mail server with the Mail accounts.I sent the accounts a test message. They end up in the Maildir for the user. But for some reason i cannot POP the mail server from a client. I can telnet to the SMTP server.. But cannot telnet to the POP3. Iv opened the ports in the firewall correctly. and even tried disabling the Firewall but when i try to Telnet to port 110 or POP port 110 i get an error saying "connection refused"

that is from the notes in the cd that comes in te box with the card, but when i typed "make all", a error appers, something like doesn't exist, so I typed : " apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)" (because I found it in some forum), then this: " apt-get install build-essential linux-he", and that didn't work, I did many this like:
"sudo apt-get update" and went to yast and look up for c/c++ demeloment (installing everything about it) and all about apt updates...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was running a web server using apache, somehow it started not working properly. So I wanted to uninstall Apache. At first, I wrote "./apachectl stop" to stop the running apache server. After that i wrote "rm -rf /usr/local/apache2" to delete the folders. So far, it seemed normal. But when I wrote //localhost on firefox, the page which was appearing when apache server was running again appeared. So, I restarted my machine, and after that opened localhost again. But the page was still there. I don't know what caused this, but it is obvious that that server is immortal. Also, I found another path for apache server but I am not quite sure. It is /srv/www/htdocs/ that directory consisted that appearing page. I am not sure if i delete this folder, too. By the way, I guess I broke my internet connection while configuring Apache web server. I just wrote "# telnet localhost 80" in the terminal. And after that I changed the port which apache server listens to in httpd.conf. Does anyone know how to terminate this apache' session? Also could somebody tell me how can i fix my internet connection?
