I installed VLC on SuSe 11.0 but it isnt playing .avi movies, it gives this error but plays soung no video "No suitable decoder module:VLC does not support the audio or video format "mp4v". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."I have tried the options for dowloading divx codecs completed successfully but "sudo apt-get update" gives an error "bash apt-get". commamnd not found.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI boought some cartoons for my granddaughter on DVD. I want to put them on my LG PVR HDD/USB which plays Divx (.avi) Purely for storage and ease of access.
I've tried DVD::rip which creates a VOB file and I've tried converting this with Avidemux (qt) but the file it creates, although avi doesn't play - wrong codec? It doesn't recognise the vOB file.
I tried ripping it with Acidrip with the various codecs available, it created avi files but none would play, again PVR reports Wrong codec?
Am I missing something? Any other open source apps that will do it?
Having a few problems with some downloaded movies, using Ubuntu.
All my downloaded divxs, using WIndows,can be plaid on my home cinema (with divx-player). But when i download a movie, using Ubuntu, even it is a divx, it will not play on my home cinema.
I think it's not the fault of my divx-player, but maybe it has something to do with Ubuntu?
hate it using windows for downloading some movies.
My home theatre is from Samsung, but that has nothing to do with it, I think.

In chromium gecko sometimes freezes,usually when only 10 minutes are left from the movie and that's just freaking annoying, and you can't fast forward or backward also. Though it has some good things too I would like to know if there's an alternative for it in chromium, something like using vlc as in firefox.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have openSUSE 11.2 installed on my PC, the install went well and was quite pleased with the OS. Howeve, because I only had a small 40Gb hard-drive I decided to buy a new Western Digital Green 1Tb SATA drive for storing my music etc.Now this is where I have run into difficulty. I can't get the OS to see the new drive, I did a search and found some instructions on how to format, mount, setup the 2nd drive but I either missed something or I just didn't do it correctly.In the end I could see the drive under Nautilus and that was it.
I can't write to it because it says I don't have permission? I can't seem to make new directories, most likely because I don't have permission. If needs be I will be willing to go back to the beginning and start installing the drive again. I don't mean to beliitle the Linux OS and users but using Windows$ all my life (I'm 49) I find it a lot easier, but I am willing to learn this new OS (for me that is).
i installed F12, and trying to play mp3 and vedio files, Mplayer fails to play all type of vedio formet as awell as mp3. totom is already installes, as well as ibdvdcs... no use till now.

When i try to play it the progress bar doesn't move at all. Crazy things that it was not like this a few weeks ago. View 5 Replies View RelatedI can play a CD which has music files as .CDA files, if I put it in the internally mounted CD/DVD player. I can see the contents of the CD with Dolphin (or Konquror) and play it using Kaffeine. However, as soon as put the same CD in an external DVD/CD player, I cannot see it with Dolphin (or Konqueror). Nor can I play it Kaffeine (although, strangely, I can play it with VLC player). My system just cannot mount that CD, it remains invisible to the system (excepting for the VLC player or the K3b). For CD with mp3 files or DATA files there is no problem at all.
How can I play and see CDROM with files in CDA format through an external USB DVD/CD player in the same way as I can see it when put in the internal DVD/CD player?
I have ripped quite a few movies onto my server and I play them on my PS3 with mediatomb. I haven't changed any of the settings in handbrake except I was playing around with the quality meter on the video tab. Some of my movies will play and others won't. The ones that do not play say something about an unsupported file type. They also will not play in Movie Player.

I'm using it with a laptop HP G60 and i can run OpenOffice, Mozilla and some other programs (python, grass, qgis) that used for work at the office, but when I go home and want to watch a movie with my girl, listen some music or any other simple task, i find a lot of little problems:
1. Adjust the bright of the screen, the Power Management Guidance don't do it and I really need it.
2. Can't play movies in VLC "No suitable decoder module. VLC does not support the audio or video format XVID. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this"
3. And today I can't play music because there is a message "KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed" this is: Output HDA Intel, INTEL HDMI 0 (HDMI Audio Output)
I know maybe these problems are stupid but in windows is easier to fix them. I'm tired of search in google because i just find solved problems for Ubuntu and it takes a lot of time.
Firefox keeps crashing when I try to play video. It used to crash when I used old version 3.0 and it still crashes now in the 3.5 version. Can it relate to the space in my hard drive? How can I solve this??
