After getting my computer to reboot properly, I noticed that SUSE will only play about half a second of my wav sound files and then stops. Is there anything I need to do?

I try uswsusp s2disk ... on resume it always stops in half of process. I used mainly hibernate, but I'm lost now.
I upgraded to the new Ubuntu and when the computer boots up, it stops half way through loading and this message is displayed: "Starting periodic command scheduler crond Checking battery state... ...Done."

As a side note I did remove PulseAudio and install Esound then removed Esound and installd PulseAudio again, hopefully I did it right, because I get system sounds and no problem with music or ..... for example.
I just installed openSUSE 11.2. When I had installed it, I could play music from ..... and others, but no mp3-files. Because of that I followed the steps described in this thread: Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums When I finished that, I still couldn't play my mp3-files and couldn't even play music from ..... anymore.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out what in the world is going on with my sound in OpenSuSE. I put in a brand new Audigy chipset soundcard and finally got some sound to come out of the speakers. I used the guide here: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE. to fix the permissions on my sound and am able to get sound-test to play sounds as well as connect to the sound device in my vmware and play sounds. That being said, I have terrible sound quality coming out. There is a lot of static sound like white noise and the volume of the actual sound played is very low compared to the noise. The sounds also distort somewhat.
I have tried the pulse audio change in the tutorial above also and have been searching around google. The only problem that I saw similar was a person who fixed the problem by updating KDE. I don't have KDE, I'm using Afterstep.
When the opening little music plays during start up, the first half of it is loud, but halfway through, the sound cuts to about half volume. Everything else afterwards is also very quiet. After boosting the volume output to 150%, and boosting VLC's audio output to 200%, the audio is still barely audible on my laptop. I've gone into alsamixer, and it's at max. I once found how to reset the audio card, and the sound was normal again, but only until I shut the laptop off, and next time, it was the same as always.
I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, and using an old Toshiba Satellite laptop. Don't know what my sound card is.
Any sound playing through pulseaudio is distorted for the first half-second or so. Sounds like a buzzing or crackling or something. This happens, for example, in Pidgin and Clementine (music player). If I set these programs to output through alsa instead of pulseaudio, there's no such problem. Also no such problem existed in 10.04. And I tried the fix in the sticky, nothing changed. Probably less than a half second of distortion, really. Maybe 100ms.
View 9 Replies View RelatedPlaying a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
I just upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and so far I have those problems:
1. Before, everything in my system was in English. Now, half is in English, half in another language (PCManFM, some menus etc). I tried setting up Language Support but it changes nothing.
2. Cursor themes work only when hovering the mouse over "X" buttons in the right top corner of the window. As soon as I move the mouse somewhere else, it goes back to default cursor theme, even though I tried selecting 5 different themes - same result.
4. Hibernation don't work anymore. s2disk saves image to disk and then it resumes it but computer stops on text message along the lines of "Resume completed successfully".
5. Changing volume with keyboard shotcuts no longer works.
6. Smplayer does not display picture anymore when playing movies. The view is just empty. I can only hear the soundtrack. It is using XV filter.
7. PCmanFM that used to worked flawlessly, now after going into 1 or 2 subdirectories stops reacting to clicks on file/folder list. Need to open new instance to be able to do anything and this again would become unusable after visiting 1-2 folders.
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. I'm not sure which veraion of linux I have but it was the latest veraon bfor the recent update. I accidentally hit alt ctrl f11 and my comp went inyo the grub menu. I've tried startx and it does nothing. About half the commands I enter do nothing and the other half r not found or are incorrect. The only vommand thw actualley work is reboot. I searched for this and read a grub guide but it did no good.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe suse 10.0 64 bit partition on my box stops booting when it is setting up the cmos clock. The suse 10.0 32 bit partition boots up without a problem. I never had a problem with the suse 10.0 64 bit partition up until now. Is it possible to fix the problem using puppy linux and editing a configuration file? I do not think it is a hardware issue if the other partition on the drive boots up. Would puppy linux be a good way to backup files from this partition or can I mount the partition using the 32 bit os?

I think it was recorded by some ancient VLC player. I failed so far to play it on anything I could download.

When i try to play it the progress bar doesn't move at all. Crazy things that it was not like this a few weeks ago. I can watch ....., hulu, avi's dvds, etc. But when i try to play just mp3 it won't. what might have caused this or what I can do to fix it?

The reason I try to play mp3 files with sox is that I wanted to play a playlist with different formats and feed it to ices2 through a pipe, ie :

I cant get any videos to play on open suse 11.2 with kde 4 ive tried looking in the repos that are standard nothing found, ive searched the forums and closest i found was a similar issue on suse 10.0 that ended in a dead end im not to familiar wiht adding repos on suse

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a SUSE 10 sp2 server that I am using for hosting VMware and virtual machines. I have installed the basic host machine with only file server enabled (no dns, dhcp, print services or anything else). This is the fifth time I have had to reinstall because after I applied all the updates the system downloaded, it would not boot with a cd/dvdrom mounted. I tried everything I knew hot to do, which I admit isn't much (edited the fstab, tried to mount through command line) but nothing brought it back.
this all started because I had the entire machine loaded with VMware, two virtual machines, and all was well until I decided to update the OES2 sp1 virtual machines. All manor of issues cropped up like corn in the summer. So I reloaded after a week because I couldn't fix the problems and decided in my limited knowledge the updates probably caused the issues, and there was no undoing the updates. I assume (dangerous as that may be) that I applied too many updates to my bare system, but I would like a more experienced opinion.
v been trying to fix this for a few days now, and the stress has been building up. i have fedora 14 and sometimes the sound on my laptop stops to work.e.g. lately it happened when some system sound occured (pidgin message sound) and flash video started at almost the same time (videos)by lost sound i mean i can play music in amarok and i don't hear anything.no sound from flash or system sounds. aplay or paplay is not heard.i tried to log out and log in (restart the desktop session)i had to reboot to fix it.i tried to do "pulseaudio --kill" but that did not helped.any idea what should be restarted in this cases?

It has to be an update or something that cause this. I've done nothing differently from the other days I use this laptop. I have to keep relogging every now and then because the sound stopped working. I can turn the volume up but pidginrhythmbox, nothing makes noise anymore. it's random...it just started happening today and this is the second time the music went out. anyone have any idea of how to stop this from happening in the future?
