OpenSUSE Hardware :: Play And See CDROM With Files In CDA Format Through External USB DVD / CD Player
May 4, 2010
I can play a CD which has music files as .CDA files, if I put it in the internally mounted CD/DVD player. I can see the contents of the CD with Dolphin (or Konquror) and play it using Kaffeine. However, as soon as put the same CD in an external DVD/CD player, I cannot see it with Dolphin (or Konqueror). Nor can I play it Kaffeine (although, strangely, I can play it with VLC player). My system just cannot mount that CD, it remains invisible to the system (excepting for the VLC player or the K3b). For CD with mp3 files or DATA files there is no problem at all.
How can I play and see CDROM with files in CDA format through an external USB DVD/CD player in the same way as I can see it when put in the internal DVD/CD player?
I wanted to ask which music player I should use to play *.m4a files. And I can't find skype for openSUSE anywhere, all the downloads are faulty or can't be installed anyway.
I'm not able to play the vcd format in my vlc player , it just hangs when i do so . Is there anything that i need to add like more plugins or codecs. Sorry if the info is less , this is only way I can explain from my limited knowledge
I'm using openSUSE 11.3 for my laptop and Kaffeine built in as my player. But when I tried to play any files with external subtitles, there is nothing happened. The drop-down list of subtitles is just gray and cannot be used.
So I have two questions: (1) Can Kaffeine built in openSUSE 11.3 load subtitles automatically? (2) If it cannot, how to load subtitles manually?
do not suggest VLC because i read on the official mkv site and several others that vlc shouldn't be used to play mkv files because they glitch sometimes
i have heard that mplayer was a good mkv viewer but for some reason the voices aren't there anymore (they are in vlc but it glitches)
what is the best video player that can be used to play mkv files
VLC Media player has been giving me a few problems and I'm hoping someone here has a fix for this issue.Yesterday I was playing an avi file and my browser, that was also running, froze up in the background. At the same time my video became choppy and started to freeze. I shut down firefox and vlc but when I opened it back up all of my avi files where greyed out. I've posted a request for help on the vlc forums but no one has responded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's frustrating because my vlc player will still play dvd's but it won't play any avi files. Oh and I tried the drag and drop option per a suggestion but all I get is sound with no video. Lastly, I should mention that I'm a multi tasker and was also trouble shooting a problem I was having with amarok, which I've since uninstalled. Could amarok have some how screwed up my files? I've even uninstalled an reinstalled vlc but nothing works
I just installed Ubuntu on a net book. I'd like hook it up to my car's aux jack and use it to play FLAC files in my car. Is there a an media player that would be good for that? If I could set multiple hot keys I could set one side of the key board for forward and back.
I have installed fedora 8 & i want to play .avi and .wma files in totem media player.. but it asks for a mpeg playback bundle .. where can i get the mpeg play back bundle for free??
Recently upgraded to Squeeze, and have a problem with Devede I haven`t seen before. When I try to convert three avi files to play on a standard dvd player, the finished ISO is still only 2,2 GB. It turns out only the first file gets included in the ISO, even though I can see Devede processing all files during conversion.
I have an ipod classic 160gb, that I sync with my machine at home.
I use Linux at work, and want to just plug my ipod and just listen to the tracks, with all the playlists and such. I don't want to sync nothing, I just want to listen to the tracks as if I was using the ipod itself.
Why? Because this way I can use the usb port.
So, I don't want to manage my ipod in Linux, I just want to listen to the tracks on it in Linux, like it was a local library but it's instead in my ipod.
(I've tried gtkpod, it works to show my files, but I can't play, shuffle, etc. It would be interesting to have a complete audio software to handle everything like it was a local library)
I have a lot of .ogv and .mpg files. Most of the .ogv files won't play, and none of the .mpg files will play, in Totem. I installed VLC media player and all the files will play in it. If I click on file properties in Nautilus for the files that won't play, it says "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operating by clicking cancel." But it never actually shows me the file properties.
i don't have much space on my individual computers, so i have to keep my music files on my laptop with most of everything else on my PC. i want to have rhythmbox play music from my networked laptop, but i have a few issues.
for one, my laptop doesn't show up in Places --> Network
two, even if it did. i'm not exactly sure how i could get rhythmbox to do that. would i have to use SSH? connect everytime?
When I download a mp3 file to my hard drive exhale opens and starts playing. How do I stop this it is driving me crazy. Second problem with this is that same mp3 files do not save to my home download folder as I have set in firefox. TYhe files get saved to /temp folder
I am using Lucid lynx and trying to play a video files with 300++ megs on it but only shows 21 seconds.. and a writing in the screen Codec Error : Use windows media player
I can play all files and already download the ubuntu restriced format .. But why can't i play this one ? Really liked the movie tough ..
I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?
I need to play or preferably convert (i.e. to MP3) old SNG files, which contain voice records. From what I could find, it's basically a MIDI created by synthetiser. I think it was recorded by some ancient VLC player. I failed so far to play it on anything I could download.
I have the following problem with Linux openSUSE 11.4 as Guest OS in VMware Workstation 7.1.4: "Linux doesn't play any video, with no single program!" I can only play audio files with Amarok, other programs can't play anything... (Audio & Video) I think... There is a bug in the VMware Workstation with the Display Driver the only format that is playable if .flv via firefox and flashplayer (eg: .....)
Im looking for a mp3 player that works out of the box with opensuse 11.04. By out of the the box i mean the the mp3 player will connect via usb and will work automatically with no need for drivers or command line changes. Ideally a player composed like a usb key in the sense that the player should have no moving parts (will be using the player in the gym a lot so player cant be fragile). I live in europe by the way.
I was unable to play windows media player content from WEB using Firefox. Firefox is asking to install missing plug-ins. But when I click on "install missing plug-in" button, its showing "No plug-ins found". In windows its played by windows Media player plug-in.
i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.
I inserted a disc and tried to access it through Dolphin. It shows up in the directory explorer thing as a disc and with the disc name, but it has a little / thing in the bottom corner of the icon, and when I try to access it, it gives me this long error on the bottom of the file area (can't remember what all it said, something about 'harvey' and being unable to find the directory in /etc/fstab). The same thing happened with an external drive, which seemed to work fine before but now has the same problem.
Why is it that FC6 installs just fine from a USB CDROM in an external enclosure but FC12 boots from the CD asks to install or upgrade an existing system but then stops at no devices found and wants the install path for the install image? It appears to see the CDROM, boots then looses its mind and forgets a CDROM was attached.
i just got the release candidate 11.3 and when i opened up amarok the music player, it told me that it could not play mp3 files. so i choose to install support for mp3 but it did not work. i added some repositories but still no luck.
