Red Hat / Fedora :: Unable To Install RHEL 5.2 On I686 Machine
Jun 16, 2010I am not very new to LINUX. I was using UBUNTU for the last 1 year and I have switched to Redhat now because I am thinking of taking a RHCE certification now. Actually the problem is that I am unable to install RHEL 5.2 i386 on my i686 machine, I have bought it recently 1 week ago. I tried to use the boot parameter "linux noprobe" then it said drivers not found after 2 steps when it loads drivers.
When I tried to make a GUI install it hanged after "loading /sbin/loader" and said "kernel panic - not syncing". And when I tried to make a text install it said hanged agin after "loading /sbin/loader" and said something like "Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP". If drivers are needed then when can I get those and how can I install those drivers? here is my hardware information as "lspci" says:

Apr 9, 2010I have a PCCHIPS P47G motherboard, with a Atheros AR8112 ethernet interface (took me a while to even find that out!). I can not find a driver for that interface! I've Googled around for drivers and come up with nothing.

I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.
NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7
When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .
Debian Configuration :: How To Install Another Ethernet Driver
Jun 21, 2011I've got a Dell Optiplex Desktop here, the CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz. The integrated ethernet here is from intel also, it's a 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection. This computer is running a Debian Squeeze 64bits, distrib sid, kernel 2.6.39-2-amd64.Well, here goes the story. I had a lot of trouble with the ethernet card, being very slow, and it just didn't work when i was using tftp. So I downloaded and compiled the latest driver available on Intel website. Currently with debian sid, the version for the driver ( e1000e ) is version: 1.3.10-k2. From Intel I got the version 1.3.17-NAPI.Alright, so I build it, and move the module manually to the right place, replacing the previous version at the same time ie :
$ sudo cp e1000e.ko /lib/modules/2.6.39-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
However, there is is still something bothering me. When I want to check, after rebooting, that I did it right, here is what happens :
$ sudo ethtool -i eth1
driver: e1000e
version: 1.3.10-k2
[code]...
So, which one should I trust ? Is there something I didn't do properly when installing the module ? Or maybe I just don't understand ethtool and modinfo enough.
Ubuntu Networking :: No Ethernet After Graphics Driver Install?
May 3, 2010I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my PC last weekend. Other than the fact I had no sound (that's another story...), everything went fine. I then got prompted to install nvidia graphic drivers. Since I installed them and rebooted, i cannot get acces to my ethernet connection. I tried the solutions listed here, but none worked. Also, when i boot on my windows OS, the Internet is working properly. I tried tonight re-installing Ubuntu 10.04. I thought if the graphic caused problem, maybe a new blank installation would just do it.

Nov 22, 2010I have a problem: My Fedora runs slowly. Any activity that is even remotely graphics-heavy (such as scrolling up and down in a web browser) lags massively. I suspect this is caused by my video card driver.
I am running Fedora 13 and KDE 4.5.3 on a 64-bit machine. My video card is an ATI Radeon HD5750. I am using the Catalyst 10.9 "hotfix", because I am unable to install the regular driver, as I described in this thread.

Dec 12, 2008There seems to be some trouble with 8139too not working in a previous post. Has anyone found a solution to this? ubuntu version 2.6.24 (Hardy Heron?). Followed all known possibilities but information is all mostly out of date. module 8139too.ok? does not load. Following makefile on 8139too.c supplied, after altering to suit my version, comes up with 3 pages of errors?. ifconfig shows nothing for eth0like the last person markjuggles i have hit a brick wall here. Am I wasting my time?

May 10, 2011I have a dual boot on my computer - with ubuntu 9.04 jaunty jackalope on one side of the partition, and windows 2000 on the other. I recently bought - and had installed - a new ethernet card: TP-LINK network adapter TF-3239DL. It works perfectly on windows, but not on linux. I understand that the problem is that I need to install the linux driver, which I have available (comes in the CD), but I don't really understand how I am supposed to proceed. The instructions are very unclear to me, and I have relatively little experience.

Sep 22, 2010I tried to compile Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller driver for fedora 13 64 bit kernel version is 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64. I have installed kernel source , kernel header and necessary all things to compile it. (linux-firmware-20100806-4.fc13.noarch also installed). I tried AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.13 source from Atheros web site.
But when I try to make it it give following error.

This driver is not supported on kernel versions older than 2.4.0. Stop. It is not compiling issue because I compiled and installed broadcom wireless driver.

Apr 22, 2011- I am running with Oracle UEL 6.0 (2.6.32-100.28.5.el6) because stock RHEL 6.0 (2.6.32-71.el6 ) has issues with the async I/O driver.
- The test is a high throughput performance benchmark running on Oracle 11gR1
- I am pumping a lot of disk I/O through the system while running with enough users to max out the 8 CPUs, which get to 99+% utilization with RHEL 5.3
- The server is a 4-socket Nehalem EX X7560. Right now, only 2 cores per socket are enabled.
- There are GBs of memory left over. The disk response time of the SSD arrays is around 1ms and the arrays are capable of 4-5 times more IOPS. Same with networking, etc. The testbed is capable of maxing out 32 CPUs with RHEL 5.3 I cannot push the RHEL 6.0 CPU utilization past 95-96%. The same test on all flavors of RHEL from 4.4 to 5.3 can totally saturate the CPUs. It feels like the system is intentionally holding back some CPU cycles.

Dec 5, 2010I have a rocketraid 2640x4 with 2 500gb HDDs configured in my system. I also have a 3.5" usb floppy disk plugged in with the SCSI drivers When I boot the RHEL 5.5 x86 32 bit installer, i type in "linux dd" at the first screen. Then it asks me to load my drivers via the floppy disk which i do. When i get to the installation page of Linux after entering my serial key, it is not able to detect my HDD so i am unable to proceed. I have tried using drivers for RHEL 5, 5.1 and 5.2. There are no drivers for 5.5.

Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. In runlevel 1, I couldn't run chroot, couldn't find the /etc/fstab, root FS could not be mounted, fsck did not run (tried block 31 for second copy of superblock using dd count=1 bs=4k skip=31 seek=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda2), couldn't find any rpm on installation media to install unix-utils rpm.
