I have installed ubuntu 10.10 on a hand me down computer and put a new network card in it (planet ENW 9503) i have managed to locate a linux driver for it from planet.com but i have no idea how to get it to work i have tried a few things it says to do in terminal. everything i have looked up needs an internet connection?

I have done this before on Windows however I am having some trouble doing this on linux, I have tried using Squid Proxy however I am having some trouble using configuring/using it.
I am using Yellow Dog Linux however I am willing to change to any other distro as long as it is compatable with PS3 (as this is what im using linux on)

So, my current idea is as follows. I would like to use my netbook to connect to the wireless network, and then connect my other computer to it through ethernet. My netbook is dual boot XP and Ubuntu (think Ubuntu is a version behind) and I would be fine to set up this sharing in either and just leave it on as a repeater station. My other computer is dual boot XP and Fedora and I would prefer this work to allow me to have network in both. I have a straight-through cable and have verified that my network card supports the automatic crossing over behavior.

I am having one wired Ethernet connection.
I want to share this Internet connection among two system , to access Internet from both the system.
I had tried by creating a wireless network, but was not able to do so.
I installed Fedora today, and I automatically had internet connection, I never had do configure anything myself. Then, I was playing around with VPN for a good while (trying to set up the VPN connection to my University), and now, I suddenly lost my connection to the internet!
But only Fedora can't connect anymore, the Windows PC has connection as well as my Mac OS X (I dualboot Linux on my MacBook). The Ethernet connection works as well, when I unplug the cable, Fedora gives me a message, but I just don't get into the internet!
Does anyone have an ides what I have to do? I don't know anything about network connections and I'm new to Linux...
I already restarted the Computer, but that didn't work, and Google didn't really held either.
I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 using the wubi installer to dual-boot my machine. Under ubuntu, I am not able to connect to the internet or my router. Everything works fine under windows. I have tried to find relevant information in the forums, but nothing seems to work for me. I have tried disabling ipv6, setting a static ip, but no go. ifconfig shows no IP, dhclient results in no DHCP offers and pinging my router's IP results in Network is Unreachable.

But a few days ago, my url stopped working and I discovered that it will now only work if I have an active internet connection plugged in. Why has this happened and how to I fix my test server so localhost works with or without an internet connection via an ethernet cable.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my PC last weekend. Other than the fact I had no sound (that's another story...), everything went fine. I then got prompted to install nvidia graphic drivers. Since I installed them and rebooted, i cannot get acces to my ethernet connection. I tried the solutions listed here, but none worked. Also, when i boot on my windows OS, the Internet is working properly. I tried tonight re-installing Ubuntu 10.04. I thought if the graphic caused problem, maybe a new blank installation would just do it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell Optiplex Desktop here, the CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz. The integrated ethernet here is from intel also, it's a 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection. This computer is running a Debian Squeeze 64bits, distrib sid, kernel 2.6.39-2-amd64.Well, here goes the story. I had a lot of trouble with the ethernet card, being very slow, and it just didn't work when i was using tftp. So I downloaded and compiled the latest driver available on Intel website. Currently with debian sid, the version for the driver ( e1000e ) is version: 1.3.10-k2. From Intel I got the version 1.3.17-NAPI.Alright, so I build it, and move the module manually to the right place, replacing the previous version at the same time ie :
$ sudo cp e1000e.ko /lib/modules/2.6.39-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
However, there is is still something bothering me. When I want to check, after rebooting, that I did it right, here is what happens :
$ sudo ethtool -i eth1
driver: e1000e
version: 1.3.10-k2
[code]...
So, which one should I trust ? Is there something I didn't do properly when installing the module ? Or maybe I just don't understand ethtool and modinfo enough.
I am basically wanting to use my Ubuntu 10.10 computer as a router. Note: Before you say just get a router please note that I am poor/cheap. I have two ethernet connections and one wireless connection on my netbook. I want to share the internet connection that is going into one of the ethernet cards through the other ethernet card and the wireless card.
DSL-->1sr Eth --> 2nd Eth (currently works)
DSL-->1sr Eth --> Wireless Card (Adhoc) <--(connects with limited connectivity AKA no internet)
The 2nd Ethernet card already has working internet, but when I connect to the Wireless card (through an Adhoc network), it cannot get an IP (I believe).

I recently bought - and had installed - a new ethernet card: TP-LINK network adapter TF-3239DL. It works perfectly on windows, but not on linux. I understand that the problem is that I need to install the linux driver, which I have available (comes in the CD), but I don't really understand how I am supposed to proceed. The instructions are very unclear to me, and I have relatively little experience.

Followed all known possibilities but information is all mostly out of date. module 8139too.ok? does not load. Yast doesn't include a list of available cards, and the error I get in installation-network setup is that the kernel isn't present. The machine I'm installing this on is a Lenovo, in which there isn't a discrete ethernet card (it's in the motherboard), but my wireless card (a Cisco LINKSYS 802.11G) is a discrete card. Because I'm divorcing Microsoft for a number of valid reasons, I don't have Windows available on that box.

I just installed 11.4 via the net install cd. In the configuration step, the internet connection test fails. Why would this happen if I just installed opensuse using the internet? It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. I've searched and tried a couple of possible solutions here but I cannot get them to work. When I try to use a downloaded deb file Gdebi cannot install it. It seems that if I re-install Network Manager I'll lose a lot of my Enlightenment installation. What I'd like to do is install Wicd. I dual boot with Win 7 so all is not lost. I understand that there's a way to istall Wicd from the command line without an internet connection but I cannot figure out how to do it.

I followed the instructions on the download page to create le usb drive and was successful.My problem is that whenever i install my nvidia drivers, my internet completely stops working. Both wired and wireless work fine on a fresh install. I can reboot and try again and they both still work. While installing the nvidia drivers however they both stop working, and upon a reboot they still aren't working. I can connect via my desktop and my phone to the same access point i'm trying to go through on my laptop, so the problem is isolated to my laptop.
