Red Hat / Fedora :: Install Of Svgalib For Graphics?
Jul 10, 2011
i want to install the (svgalib) so that to plot some data of my code (c-language) on a monitor. I tried to install it by "yum install svgalib" and "yum install svgalib-devel" (complete installation) but i dont find either vga.h file or library files in my file system
I am using ubuntu 10.04 and I installed svgalib 1.4.3 and while i run a simple c graphics program I can't get the output of this instead its getting an output in a black screen saying"USING VGA driversvgalib 1.4.3"
My new computer loads the i915 video driver by default, which seems to disable normal VGA VESA and FB modes. When I use an svgalib client in VESA mode the screen gets screwed up. I can't recover. I have tried savetextmode & textmode, but those don't help. Everything else continues to work. I have to shutdown and restart to restore a normal screen mode.
I have a dell studio 15 laptop which has a ati radeon 4570 512 graphics card and i m using fedora 12 my problem is that, on the ati site there is not any dedicated graphics driver for my 4570 on ati site, i just want to know how can i install grahics driver for my f12 OS. is there is any one in the community who is using a similar ati card
I have been trying to enable compiz on my fedora 14, but when i enable the desktop effects the graphics just crashes and fedora freezes. When i type lspci -nnk | grep VGA for the graphics card i get:
I made alot of research on how to get Intel graphics work on Fedora, but couldnt find any solution
I'm quite keen to get Fedora 15 up and running but I am falling at the first hurdle. I can successfully boot from a LiveUSB and be presented with a text only tty2 / tty3 / tty4 / tty5 interface inviting me to log in but no graphics are possible and I cannot see any way to install Fedora. I have GMA500/Poulsbo graphics chipset which has notoriously **** Linux support but I note that basic support has been inlined in 2.6.39 so I think that if I could only get Fedora installed and then upgrade the kernel or do other things later I will be ok.

I am trying to Install Fedora 11 from a live install CD. I know it works because I tried it on another system. After the little Balloon that shows its loading completes the screen scrambles, later a mouse pointer appears then freezes shortly after. When I remove Quiet from Kernel Params. Lots of text then Samething.. Scrambled Screen the Freeze. I have tried adding the Following Parameters to the Kernel (nomodeset, xdriver=vesa, acpi=noirq, noapic). This sounds like a common problem with ATI based graphics and all answers seem to point the "nomodeset" and the "xdriver=vesa" but they dont seem to help.
I want to install a new graphics card, Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT, into my system running Fedora 12, x86_64.
* Should I install the hardware into the system first? * Or should I download the proper drivers and install them first, before hardware? * Do I need to disable or remove drivers for my integrated graphics card (Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE graphics) before I do anything?
I have a Asus UL80j, Nvidia GeForce 310m w/ 1gb mem, i3 core processor and 4 gb ram. Windows 7 HP came on, I love Fedora so I dual boot. I installed the Fedora 13, did yum update all is good. I attempt to use the compiz for cool effects however, it freezes my system.
I attempt to install the nvidia graphics driver from thread [url] and follow the instructions to perform the install and reboot.
First it loads the fedora logo like always and then boom, black screen with a blinking white underscore mocking me. Reboot once more and get the load out of pass/fails and see nvidia.ko for kernel...... [NOT FOUND] blah blah [FAIL] blah blah [FAIL]
I cannot install FC11 or FC10 on my Dell XPS One/A2420 machine. Every time I tried to install the Linux operating system, the screen goes black and the computer goes no response. It seems to have something to do with the video card--Intel GMA X4500HD Graphics.
I have a qzd netbook with opensuse 11.2 running but I cannot get the graphics working. I have tried "startx" and get the following:
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4650 X.Org X Server 1.6.5 Release Date: 2009-10-11 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says
Current usage: Unknown
There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power. It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector. The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?
I have just installed Ubuntu (9.10) and noted that in order to successfully run the trial off the CD I had to test in "safe graphics" mode. I have an NVIDIA GEforce 6600 GT card - which was discovered by Ubuntu in the first few minutes of the trial and so I activated the recommended driver and continued to test. After a successful trial I installed Ubuntu (dual partition Ubuntu / Windows XP), however, it seems the install didn't activate the required driver (as part of the process) and so I'm unable to get into my newly-installed Ubuntu at all. All I get is a flashing tty screen asking for my username and password - however it's erratic and won't recognise what I type. So - I'm stuck in a catch-22 as there doesn't seems to be a safe graphics mode option via the start (GRUB?) menu list.
Installing from minimum CD to Dell Latitude C600. So far I managed to get the network to work in rescue mode. But the graphics (X-window?) has the wrong refresh rate. Shortcut keys do not seem to change resolution. No obvious errors during boot but can't read the last few lines, they go by too fast. Not sure what to try next.
I think I have found a bug, (or maybe just an omission to the new version.)I have a Dell sx270 with P4 and Intel 82865G graphics on board. I cannot see the display in either Normal or Safe Graphics for any option on the 9.10 installation cd EXCEPT memory test, which does show up in Normal mode.
What I see is; When I make a selection, the screen blanks, I see a cursor in the upper left, and then my monitor tells me that it is not connected. The cd and drive happily do their respective things, I just cannot see anything on the screen.
When I return to 8.04, (running the 64 bit on my laptop!) and download the 32 bit desktop version, I get very different results; In Normal mode, the screen is visible until about 80-90% of the ubuntu progress bar is filled, the screen blanks, a curser shows in the upper left, and then my monitor says "no connection".
Try this again in Safe Graphics mode; same spot and the display tells me it is re-adjusting and 'Bob's your uncle,' installation is working fine. So, Did someone decide not to support earlier hardware, or did something get left out?
I would like an answer before I attempt to up-date the 8.04 I just installed. Nothing worse than making a graphics change that cannot be undone, and I would like to try 9.10 (on this desktop) BEFORE I update my laptop from 8.04.
So first I noticed that ATI's linux driver had an udpate from what I had, so I went ahead and downloaded it and ran the file
$sh ati-file.run
everything installed great except for an error message that said something about the DKMS failed to install...
So I then tried to go under Administrator menu (I think it was the administrator user) -> hardware and enable the ATI driver that this found. But it gave me some fglrs (something like that) error
So i went into synaptic and reinstalled and and rebooted everything seemed fine (but still nothing updated) until i rebooted again.
No everytime I boot it tells me I am in low graphics mode...
and if I try to install/unistall ANYTHING I get an error that says
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/fglrx_2%3a8.723.1-0ubuntu5_amd64.deb: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
I am thinking of buying a new computer. It has ATI Radeon HD 3000 Graphics. Will that work with Fedora 14? Will I need to install a driver to get it to work? If so, where would I download that driver?
I am having trouble installing Fedora 10 64-bit on my new laptop in graphics mode. Here's a link to the laptop: [URL] When I try and install, it says "X startup failed, falling back to text mode", and proceeds with text mode. I saw that people had this on some radeon cards, and they had to use the change the driver to boot with to fix it. I'm guessing my problem is similar, however my card is an Intel HD card. Is there a driver available that works for this card, or is it perhaps another problem?
I have a Packard Bell Imedia desktop with on-board ATI graphics. I also have a spare Nvidia PCI card. Is there a way I could use the Nvidia to run a second screen, if so how as the Nvidia and fglrx drivers seem to collide in a show stopping way!!I am running Kubuntu Intrepid, but have resorted to Gnome as KDE4 went spectacularly wrong on me.
I was looking to get glx to work with direct rendering. So i installed the nvidia drivers from the openSuSe Sight. I installed because /var/log/Xorg.O.log Said that the Nvidia card was not loaded. Long story short looks like the card is loaded but X windows... I guess GLX is not running and neither is Opengl. I still have output to the monitor. here is
I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.
I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.
My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.
I just installed 11.3 RC1, but I can only run in failsafe mode. Installation went fine and I'm not having any problems except that when my computer gets ready to launch my login screen it just display garbled graphics. I have tried multiple resolutions and the x11failsafe option, all with a no-go. I did see this error message pop up at the time of garbled graphics on one login: [GPU LOCKUP, switching to software fbcom]
I have a z9 volari Graphics card that opensuse 1.2 is recognising but the xgi driver is not present. I get the following when I startx:
auth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4650
X.Org X Server 1.6.5 Release Date: 2009-10-11 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX
[Code]....
Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.
I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??
There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.
I was reading the latest openSUSE news #140 under the kernel information and I found something I felt anyone interested in the future of Graphics Support in the kernel should read. It was very interesting for me to read and so maybe the same for you.
Kernel Log: Coming in 2.6.36 (Part 1) - Graphics - The H Open Source: News and Features
I have an 11.2 laptop and thought it was time to upgrade to 11.4. I downloaded the 11.4 X86-64 live cd and thought that I would check how it ran on my 11.3 desktop. This is a core i5 760 with an Nvidia GT240 graphics card and 4GB of DDR3 ram. The 11.4 live system shows the nouveau driver. The graphics performance is terrible. In particular windows are very very slow to resize and often don't resize properly. There are also some artifacts in some graphics. I eventually downloaded Flash which did seem to work moderately well, especially in full screen mode. The screen resolution is 1920x1080. I have never seen a windowing system work so slowly
While I always use the Nvidia proprietary driver, I don't know how I can test it via a live CD. The Nvidia driver in the repository is the 270 version and I think that I have seen reports of severe problems with the 270 version so that needs to be tested too. I always install the nvidia driver the really easy way via yast
Has anyone any idea why the KDE Live graphics are so slow? I will not go anywhere near 11.4 unless the graphics system is very much faster. Is there any way to test the nvidia proprietary graphics driver without installing 11.4?
I downloaded my Proprietary ATI Linux Driver (for my Radeon Xpress 200) from [URL]... But I cannot figure out how to install it!I followed the instructions here but Terminal told me "command not found". I also tried double-clicking the file but it opened with gedit and gave me an error.
