Red Hat / Fedora :: Updated 10 App No Longer Runs :Failed To Create XIM Input Context
May 14, 2009
I ran "yum update" and updated my new installation. Afterwards: my main application stopped running. It iis an xwindow app. I am trying to run it from a terminal on the gnome desktop. How can I back out my updates and which packages should I try to remove?
I was setting up a Samba server and I ran into some problems with SELinux related to the context of the home directories. I made a user account, say "UserAccount", with a default home directory "home/UserAccount". Afterwards I realized that I needed to move the home directory of this particular user to another location, say "/home2/UserAccount". So I created the new directory, changed the permissions, and used Gnome's system-config-user to change the user's home directory.
I then set-up the Samba server, activated samba_run_unconfined and samba_enable_home_dirs in SELinux, and made an account for UserAccount. When testing the Samba account for UserAccount SELinux denied read access. I checked the context and the new home directory did not appeared to have been updated. I had to manually run:
restorecon -R -v /home2/UserAccount
to set the context on the new home directory. I'm not very familiar with SELinux, so my question is this: is this normal security policy or is a bug in the system-config-user tool? If it's normal policy can someone explain why? I'm always ready to learn Distro: Fedora 12 (kernel: 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686) System: Dual Intel Xeon @ 3.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM
Is there a kickstart file somewhere or some other way or creating updated iso's for Fedora? I do a lot of installs testing stuff and it would be nice to create a new install disk every month or so. Cuts down on the update time.
I have been running Lucid since it was in beta, and have never had any problems with Compiz. Now, all of a sudden it will not launch. If I try to run it from a terminal I get the following:
Code: compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected. compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0 compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
Launching fallback window manager I am running an Intel 82915G/GV/910GL built in graphics controller, and when I run the compiz-check script everything checks out fine.
Everytime I log into Gnome Desktop I get this message : failed to initialize a HAL contextHere is the exact error message when I look into auth.logQuote:gnome-keyring-daemon[22720]: failed to initialize a HAL context: (null)gnome-keyring-daemon[22720]: Scheduling hal init retry
I run XBMC media center software which is built on a minimal Ubuntu install. I was running a version built on Karmic and I had the following line in my /etc/init.d/rc.local and it always ran without a hitch:
Code:
mount -t cifs -o file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 //192.168.1.20/disk7/xbmc_thumbs/Thumbnails /home/kevin/.xbmc/userdata/Thumbnails
Recently, I upgraded to a version built on Lucid and now that fails to create the mount on boot up. Here is the entire contents of the file:
Code:
#! /bin/sh ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: rc.local # Required-Start: $remote_fs $syslog $all
1. No any input to create new username and password when I install X86-64 bit Core 12 And I can not login with root. So how can I login Fedora core 12?
I used the "Upgrade" option the last couple of nights to go from 8.04 LTS and was going to go to latest version. Well got the upgrade done last night on 9.10 and now Broadcom gigabit wired connect will not connect to internet. Can ping router just fine. Just cannot get outside of it. Shows as configuredin ifconfig. But the name of it under the network manager is odd. Its ifupdown (eth0) (default) and maps to ent1.
I have a strange issue with my RAID5 array - it worked fine for a month, a couple days ago it didn't start on boot with mdadm reporting "Input/Output error" - I didn't panic restarted my computer, same error. Then opened a Disk utility and it reported State: Not running, partially assembled - don't know why, I've pressed Stop RAID Array and started it again, voila - it reported State: Running - I've checked components list and there was nothing wrong with it. So I run Check Array utility, waited almost 3 hours to finish it and it worked since than, till today's morning - I've started my computer, and here we go, same error.
See screenshots:
This is an initial state just after computer startup:
This is after I stop and start RAID5:
This is a components list:
I can see nothing wrong there yet not sure why mdadm fails on boot. I do not really like the windows solution I guess, when I check my array again, it will work fine again, but it then can fail in the same way without known reason.
Up until an hour ago, my openSUSE 11.0 KDE 3.x Konqueror had the usual Ark archive extraction options on the context menu. An hour ago, during an extraction operation, Ark and/or KWin crashed and I had to log back in.
Now the Ark extraction options are no longer on the menu. All I have is the Ark "Extract To..." option.
What happened and how can I fix it? And yes, I have all the required integration plugins, etc., the thing was working fine for the last two years. Now it's broken. Where is the config file or lock file or whatever that I need to find to fix this.
have to create a webhost on an running fedora server which runs multiple webpages + a coldfusion serveri have to add an coldfusion virtual host to these.what i would do:*crate a new user & group*enter vhosts.conf and copy an existing host and modify it for the new one.*create an new folder and copy the main files (phpstarter and webroot) *chown the files for the right useri think an apache graceful would be needet
I hope someone can help me with this. I need to call the same thread multiple times, but only run one thread at a time. So what I do is create the thread which runs then drops out. Run the main loop and after some time pthread_create the same thread again. So in pseudo code
[Code]...
I always presumed if I run a thread and it reaches with a pthread_exit, then the thread was destroyed? However I've found that after I've created the thread several 100 times the programme crashes? So can anyone advise how I call the same thread over and over?
i try to create an updated RPM of the lib geos i have downloaded the SRPM then i made a rpm -ivh srpmfile.rpm so i obtained the SPEC file when i launch this command
Code: rpmbuild -bi --short-circuit geos.spec i have this response Code: ERROR 0001: file '/usr/lib64/libgeos_c.so.1.6.2' contains a standard rpath '/usr/lib64' in [/usr/lib64] so i try with this one
Before I upgraded to Karmic, I had Japanese text input set up on my system, but since the upgrade it no longer works. I can still read Japanese text, and when I press Ctrl+SPACE I still get the ANTHY box in the bottom right-hand corner, but Japanese is no longer on the list of supported languages. how to get Japanese back?
I don't know what bugzilla wants to know. I tried to create a new report, but I failed at the first page/question. THe page ask me to enter a classification. But I don't know want that could be. I check multible times but I got always just a big red EM. What's to enter at 'named tag' and at 'to bugs'?
I thought configuring a vpn would be a piece of cake, but it seems I'm missing something.
I'm attempting to create a vpn (pptp) using the networkmanager (0.7.1). I enter the gateway (I assume thats the server I'm trying to connect to) and my login information. What is the NT Domain?
When I try to connect it only tells me after a while that it failed to do so. How can I find the information on what went wrong in the process?
I would like to know the quickest way to create either an ISO or bootable USB media that contains all the updates since the release of 10.04 for easy installations in environments that have slow Internet or no Internet. What would you all suggest?
I haven't updated my centos box for almost about a year, my theory is if it ain't broke don't fix it.These last two weeks I've been replacing hardware, a motherboard, memory, processor, and a hard-disk. Everything worked fine with the current 2.6.18-128.1.10, but I decided that I should upgrade to the latest along with all the new packages. But in doing so I would need to recompile the driver module for the raid controllers, rr1740. So I recompiled them using the 2.6.18-164.1 build while I was in kernel 128. When I was done, I restarted the machine and when it booted to the new 164 kernel, it came back very long error messages but here's what I can remember off the top of my head.
I try to run Mesa gears example and I get following error: Code: freeglut (./gears): Unable to create direct context rendering for window 'Gears' This may hurt performance. though the application runs successfully, but I guess that in future I will have much problems with productivity.
I run Linux CentOS 5 on WMvare 7. Mesa's version is 6.5 Relevant output of lspci -v gives: Code...

Long story short - on my laptop, touch pad is recognised as PS/2 mouse. Everything works (moving, clicking, dragging, vertical scroll). But I often accidental click the pad while typing.Synaptic driver recognises it as ALPS glide point it seems (synclient -m 1 gives me back only x,y difference for the gestures, but X,Y coordinates are always 0,0) - so then I get everything right including disabling mouse on keyboard input - but scrolling doesn't work So I came up with 2 possible ideas - which I don't know how to do/test:1. Perhaps there is a way to disable mouse input while typing without synaptics drivers?2. Create a dummy input device (mouse), and tie synaptics driver to it. Add another input device in xorg.conf to point to the real touch pad as PS/2. And make the synaptics disable "real mouse" by enabling GuestMouseOff option.
The intent here takes a little background info.I'm trying to make a basic inventory control to reinforce my studies. It will have a while loop that displays amenu for add, edit, view, and quit. Lets assume the following:
Code: class inventoryItem: itsDescriptiveName = None
what happened to the Create Web Album functionality in gThumb 2.11 series? Is it no longer supported or am I missing an extension or something? Is there another software I can use that allwos me to do the same?
Maybe this isn't the right place, BUT: How can I create an OO Writer template with about 20 input Text Areas? I can make one, and then I thought I could use COPY and PASTE to dupe it in the other places, but it didn't work. I hate to spend all that time creating the other 19 identical boxes.
