I'm writing a program in Python that presents a place for the user to input one-line of text (using raw_input). I need, however, as the user types, for certain words to be replaced, even before the user hits enter.
I try to make an animation so you can see what I mean, here the word "pig" gets replaced with "sheep":

I am working with ubuntu (linux) and have to create a graphical user interface. The GUI is a 2-D plot that have to plot a point. The point ( x and y co-ordinates) are not hardcoded, and are coming from another file (another piece of code written in c / python). I was thinking to use Glade with c/python to create this. I'm trying to create a Linux instance on a Windows 7 PC and use dual-boot. I have created 64GB of space for Linux. Is this enough? When I boot from the live DVD and go through the setup, I get stuck setting up the unassigned space as a linux partition. I don't understand what the setup is trying to tell me and I'm afraid I'll wipe out Windows 7. The message I get says there isn't enough space even though the unassigned available area is 64GB. I am very timid about following what Yast2 is telling me because to my untrained eye it appears the setup wants to use my entire hard drive. Where can I find more information about the disk setup section of the installation process?

i dont see any error (you might)but every time i run it it runs but after it asks me to input for the width i do it but it doesn't take me to the length, it just stays blank until i input another value in the same place for the width, it asks me for 4 inputs in total i don;t know why, and after i run it different times it gives me different values for the perimeter and are. how can I fix this?
I have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.
defining keyboard layouts in linux (ubuntu 10.04 here). there does not seem to be any easy, graphical way to define keyboard mappings (except for keyboardlayouteditor, but frankly, i do not understand the installation description.i am using an apple aluminum keyboard with a german layout, but no matter what i do the (<>) and (^°) keys are always swapped (i did manage to change the default behavior for the f1...f12 keys from multimedia back to 'ordinary', application-centric... all you have to do is add the line echo 2 > /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/fnmode to /etc/rc.local... this is so bloody obvious i am ashamed i had to search the web for this!).

Is there a place, in ubuntu / linux systems that does allow reading out keyboard codes? Is there a way to block processing of such keyboard actions until an intercepting daemon has processed them? Would such an interceptor work for a broad range of use cases? like on the command line, in a gtk app, in wine, in firefox and so on? An alternative would actually be to grok keyboardlayouteditor, so if someone could post about a readable, complete installation instruction or point out installable packages, that'd be great, too.

I've had to do some code in java, a language I'm very much unfamiliarly with so please excuse my incorrect use of terms. The basic outline of my problem is I create a class object as a local within a swing button function it works fine. If I create it as a global ( with I think I need to do ) within main, then prototype it with the other swing objects at the bottom of the file when it is called it causes a host of problems. I think the easiest way is to show it.
