so i try with this one
Is there a kickstart file somewhere or some other way or creating updated iso's for Fedora? I do a lot of installs testing stuff and it would be nice to create a new install disk every month or so. Cuts down on the update time.
I would like to know the quickest way to create either an ISO or bootable USB media that contains all the updates since the release of 10.04 for easy installations in environments that have slow Internet or no Internet. What would you all suggest?
I ran "yum update" and updated my new installation. Afterwards: my main application stopped running. It iis an xwindow app. I am trying to run it from a terminal on the gnome desktop. How can I back out my updates and which packages should I try to remove?
I recently bought an host to have a personal website and would like to create a bash script to create make a mirror copy of it and then add it to crontab to run once a week. Essentially what I want to do is to get the website by using wget -m ftp://user***@ftp.host/mydir
Once this is done I'd like to have everything in an archive called mysite.date.tar.7z I've no experience at all of bash scripting but I guess this should be an easy task? How to make the user and password not visible ? Is there any other option better than wget? (maybe rsync it works better?)
i am running into few problems with the script here. I have an FTP server, all configured, and i need to have a script that will create a folder with current dated within a tree as soon as particular user logs in. I was wondering if that is possible with proftpd. if not, can someone suggest how to create a script that will simply create a DIR with date and autorun itself every 24 hours? i am running Debian/Proftpd with Mysql authorization.
I just installed "f12" and the first thing I did was upgrade the operating system, so I went to System -> Administration -> actualziacion of software, after a while I put "install updates" but did not release any actualiazcion and threw me Error
Code: could not add package update for abrt-plugin-runapp-1.0.9-2.fc12(i686)updates: abrt-plugin-runapp-1.0.9-2.fc12.i686
Does anyone know how many packages we should expect to see updated in the hop from the CR repo to the GA of 5.7? My update last night just brought me 8 packages - is that to be expected?
I did my updates for F11 as I do often and afterwards booted in verbose mode to see anything different. The update was done 3 days ago and here's the log file..Starting NetworkManager daemon: ** (NetworkManager:1899): WARNING **: State file /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state parsing failed: (2) Error creating state directory /var/lib/NetworkManager: 13.[60G[[0;32m OK [0;39m]As noted, it says OK and the network still connects as usual but this warning msg didn't happen until the update. Is this a bug with the new Gnome Network mgr or could it be related to the new F12 release?I plan to upgrade or clean install F12 soon. Been using F11 since Aug.5 and I really like it by far the most stable Gnome of any distro I've tried. Was a KDE fan until now lol. I never liked the idea of KDE4.x but it is maturing. But-- most dists don't even offer tried-true KDE 3.5.10 anymore.ay need to fwd this issue with GnomeNetworkManager to the bug forums for Fedora/RHEL.UPDATE: I installed the updated SElinux Policy (testing) via rpmfind.net.selinux-policy 3.6.12.92.fc11.noarch.rpm and selinux-policy-targeted 3.6.12.92.fc11.noarch.rpm and the issue with the NetworkManager error went away!!I assume this package will be released as an update soon
I run F15 on my desktop PC and /var/log/dmesg is not being updated. I used preupgrade to upgrade from F14 to F15 on June 3. I boot F15 at least once per day. /var/log/dmesg has not been updated since June 3. /var/log/dmesg was being updated correctly when I ran F14. On f15, if I issue "dmesg" from the command line, I get the expected result. Is this a bug?
I have a clean install of 11.4 64 bit updated with factory and tumbleweed. Updated to kde 4.6.2 (from 4.6.1) yesterday using factory. The update worked fine with the exception of shutting down. When I press the shut down button it closes kde and takes me to a terminal window logon. So I have been switching to root and init 0. The re-start option (from kde) works fine.
I rolled my system back to kde 4.6.1 and it shut down without any problems. I thought that it might be a problem with me using factory to upgrade to kde 4.6.2 - so I switched back to kde 4.6.2 using the kde repo at:- Index of /repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_11.4
Same problem in shutting down. So I again rolled back to kde 4.6.1 (which again came from factory) and no problems. The only thing that I can see that is different is when I log out of kde and there is the (kdm) screen login, on the bottom left there are the different systems available. For kde this used to show:-
but now just shows the two plasma options. Is this were my problem lies or is this standard were someone has upgraded to kde 4.6.2.
I've been using ubuntu for months, the last two updates i have installed by they never worked. so i've just been choosing pervious working install with no problems, which was 2.6.31-17. i've just downloaded another update and now all i can do is select between xp and ubuntu and instead of getting the next selection screen to pick which version ie .17, .19, or .20, to load. all i get is grub ver. "what ever". then a few lines about the tab function. then "sh: grub" i'm a newbe to the code lang of ubuntu. i don't know what i need to type to get it to load the ubuntu operation system??? or to fix the grub selection screen, or why the installs since .17 don't work.
I have a Thinkpad X40. I've installed Ubuntu 10.4b2 Netbook Remix on it. I have two issues with it:1. If I boot to kernel 2.6.32-21, the machine locks up hard when X attempts to start. The keyboard becomes totally locked (ctrl-alt-f1and the screen is blank. 2.6.32-20 works fine. (thanks to IRC for telling me how to get to GRUB when it's set to auto-boot.)2. I had 10.4 alpha3 on it originally, and the 3d netbook launcher was dramatically faster than the currently updated version of it. Related to #1: how can I set GRUB to automatically boot to the older kernel? Where should I be looking in logs to see if there's something I can report effectively?
I'm using xubuntu 9.10 and yesterday (6/7 2010) there were 5 important updates which required restarting. So I restarted my computer and found out that I can no longer log in. I got to the login screen where I wrote write my password and it started the logging in but then the screen went black and I came back to the log in screen just like nothing had happened.
I can log in in safe mode but not in the normal GUI boot up. How do I fix this?(sorry for my rusty English btw)
i did some looking online and read that chrome/chromium will tell you if an update is available by showing a small orange dot by the settings wrench. i have never seen one. but it seems that (as far as i was able to figure out) i do have the latest version (8.0.552). i do remember seeing chromium having been updated through the Ubuntu update manger, but all i remember seeing are security fixes, not updates (although i might not have seen them). i also read that chrome/chromium has a 6 week release cycle. Its been awhile since ive seen chromium updated (unless update manger is doing it and not telling me). is there a newer version of chromium? or am i just too observant/impatient?
I updated (I have already been using 10.10 for some time now....) my desktop last night before I went to bed and I installed the updates that I was prompted about yesterday. Well today it says all the updates were installed and asks me to restart - i do.
1st thing I notice is my username/login was different - it used to just be <name>; and now it is <name>-x2512xt5125532 (not exactly, but it was changed..) My password is still the same and logged in fine.
I open up firefox and i notice I have no internet connection (I am wired..) - The back of my desktop light is on (so it definitely has connection) but ubuntu says it is disconnected. I tried deleting the current wired-setting and still not working.
I am using VoIP so I unplugged it from the back of my phone, and directly wired it to my computer - still no internet. I know I have a connection because my phones are working - just not THIS desktop. I have another desktop with 10.10 and the same updates (except the problematic one is 32bit, and the other is 64bit).
I cannot use ubuntu. Somehow, I managed to get a working terminal from the recovery mode.
I wanted, still do, to change my username. hihihi100 is my old username, the new one is dexter: I changed it in the user and groups section, and moved everything from the /home/hihihi100 folder to the home/dexter folder. In the terminal I can see all the files, none is lost, all are owned by dexter of the group dexter hihihi100 folder is gone
Now the bug, or more precisely, where I realised I had f*kked up:
My machine loads normally, untill I reach the login screen, where I am prompted to choose a username and a password: after doing so my 11.04 will only show 3 different messages:
NOTICE THAT hihihi100 is gone, all the information of that folder is now in dexter (/home/dexter)
Code: could not update ICEauthority file /home/hihihi100/.ICEauthority
There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)
Nautilus could not create the following required folders /home/hihihi100/Desktop, /home/hihihi100/.nautilus
I dont understand why my machine wants to create folders inside hihihi100, a folder that does not exist anymore
I don't know why clamav antivirus is not update even if I try using "freshclam". In Terminal, it say up to date. But in ISPConfig 3 Interface, it is not.
Is there guide for converting ext3 to ext4 on Fedora? I use Fedora 12 which is regularly updated. How safe is procedure for data, I have only one ext3 partition on disk which has one ntfs and that ext3 partition (and also one small swap partition).
I've just allowed the update manager to update my system and now it boots as far as the login screen then immediately reboots, tried to use the installation disk repair system option but the only option it would allow was install system. anyone known how to boot into single user mode to try and fix this? or is re-installation the only option? I've discovered that hitting esc will booting gives me a more informative boot seems that udev is not loading looks terminal to me.
I set up my home server like 3 year ago on a Fedora core 4, I am running a NAT, firewall and FTP very smoothly on it. In the past 3 years, it has been doing perfectly without any modification/ upgrade. But recently, I just realized I might need a VPN server on it, but the recent release of OpenVPN doesn't support Fedora core 4 anymore, therefore I suddenly want to make an upgrade. I've read the articles/ manual for Fedora 13, yet I do not find any suggestion on how to upgrade to 13 from core 4.
how can I do an upgrade in the easiest manner as I don't want the server cease working too long (I need its NAT for my network).
