I'm contemplating to switch from sendmail to postfix. My current setup is very simple: a minimal CentOS 5.5 64bits install with Selinux enabled on ports 25, 80, secret sshd, 53 and 953. I also use Google Apps for my domain to manage the email accounts. Basically, I use sendmail only to email the daily logwatch, as well the email sent from my forum software. The issue that I'm facing is the forum is starting to hammer sendmail with a lot of emails.
My goal is to use Postfix only to send those forum emails. I don't need a SMTP setup, that is handled by Google Apps. Can I do that with Postfix? Will Postfix perform better than sendmail? All guides I saw on internet pair Postfix with Dovecot and the setup is a little complex, not to mention that I will never have email accounts created on server.
I was wondering if you have any handy guide who will basically replace sendmail with Postfix. Personally, I tried myself using the CentOS HowTo. I yum'ed postfix and system-switch-mail, then I disabled sendmail and switched the agent to Postfix. I left the main.cf config unchanged and tried to start Postfix (service postfix start), but I got a "master is stopped" message when I checked the daemon status.

I've tried to install and configuring postfix and courier-imap on my virtual server. It can send e-mail (because I do it by gmail ) and it can receive the mail from itself to. I've set a thunderbird account and it can read all mails in my mailbox. The problem occurred when I try to send an e-mail from an external domain to my domain. For example if i try to send an e-mail from example@gmail.com to example@mydomain.com, after few seconds in gmail account compare the mail where it says:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
example@mydomain.com
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected example@mydomain.com (state 14). I can connect to my server by telnet on 25 and 143 ports. On 143 login successful. The mail log file has no changes when I try to sent an external email to my mail server so I don't know if it's a server/postfix problem or DNS problem or what else.
This is my main.cf postfix configuration file:
# See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version
# Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default is /etc/mailname.
#myorigin = /etc/mailname .....
MX record contains mail.mydomain.com and I have inserted a A record on my DNS manager that link mail.mydomain.com to my IP addres. In fact I can connect myself to mail.mydomain.com on 25 and 143 ports. So i think that configuration file is right.

I can send emails to local accounts but not out to the world. Here are the refrences I used to set things up.
[URL]
I was able to send and receive after the "basic" setup. I added amavis-new and I am pretty sure that it stopped working then. (late nights, lots of changes/tries not 100% sure any more) Went back to basics trying to send a test email from telnet (on the server).
Code:
mail:~# telnet mail.my-server.com 25
Trying 216.240.35.89...
Connected to mail.my-server.com.

I am currently running Ubuntu Server 9.10 and followed this HOWTO on setting up my email server.
[url]
Everything seems to work correctly. If I look in the Maildir the emails I send to test are there.
The problem is when I try to sync my email via IMAP from my windows box (on a different network) it doesn't show any of my email nor does it deliver new email. My email app doesn't give any errors nor does the logs on the server.
How can I get it so my email syncs to windows computer? I am sure it is something really small that I am over looking but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I don't know if you need to see any of my config files but I can post them if needed.

But, when I try to start amavisd and send a test mail these bunch of errors appears:

I've read some posts that had no reply, someone tried to telnet to 127.0.0.1:3110 "the default port of clamd". I tried that but I got connection refused.

I am trying to install centos on two servers. The first a dell power edge p4 2.4 ghz 512 ram, the other is a supermicro with almost the exact specs. I tried to install the centos cd, using roxio to create the disk, (then just for measures tested the cd on my laptop and it loaded just fine into the centos install gui.) But it says media error when I try it on the dell and blue screens the other server. However if I put the windows cd in on both the servers, the windows install goes perfect. Apologies again if this is misplaces but I just joined the site and have had a difficult time trying to find where to post. What I am trying to do in the end is run web servers using apache.

I'm trying to install Fedora 13 VM on my CentOS 5.5 64 bit install following the below link. I used this same process to install a CentOS 5.5 VM just to test the process. Now when I try to follow it making changes for Fedora Im getting an error.[URL] config file:
kernel = "/install/vm/fedora/vmlinuz"
ramdisk = "/install/vm/fedora/initrd.img"

In the CentOS link I posted it said to use kernel from the xen directory.Ive found out that the last fedora version that shipped with xen was fedora 8. Does anyone know where I can find a fedora 12/13 xen kernel? Ive searched google for hours and can not find a xen kernel. Actually I'm to the point where I would even use ubuntu or any similar distro if I could find a xen kernel.

I receive the same result with the original e1000e driver from the distribution, the latest elrepo driver and the latest driver from Intel site (as seen in the example). I have tried also 2.6.37 kernel version - with the same result. The adapter however works fine under Windows (MiniXP from Hiren's BootCD) and with Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD.

I'm in the process of creating local repos for our company servers (CentOS 5.5) and laptops (Fedora 13). And while the CentOS part went perfect the Fedora part is causing major trouble. But first things first, here's the setup: a central CentOS 5.5 server is running Apache2 and has a VirtualHost listening on Port 8080 for both CentOS and Fedora. The DocumentRoot for this VirtualHost is /data/repo wherein two directories, centos and fedora, reside.
This is the .repo-file for CentOS that works like a charm:

The installer can't see my raid controller (I assume) as I'm getting the following error:"Error opening /dev/mapper/isw_jbhgjgjj_Vol0: No such device or address"It just sees them as 4 individual drives: sda, sdb, sdc and sdd. Please note that I have set up the RAID 5 in the controller bios interface and the image name is Vol0, which it seems that it tries to load but for some particular reason it can't.I have also tried different bios settings and nothing worked.

I'm trying to install a dual booting machine with OpenSUSE v11.1 32bit and CentOS v5.2 64bit. I installed OpenSUSE first and allowed it to install and configure grub in the MBR and after that I wanted to proceed with CentOS v5.2. The installation went fine with two notable exceptions:- when I had to configure grub installation parameters, CentOS offered me only 2 solutions: either install it on the MBR of the first hard disk or not installing it at all. Other distributions are more flexible allowing you to install it in the boot sector of the root partition for example. Because I didn't want to ruin the existent grub onfiguration, I reluctantly accepted not to install it for CentOS assuming that I could manually configure the entry later in grub's menu.lst file.
- when I was presented with the options for software components installation, I've clicked on virtualization category/function because I intend to use the machine as a VMware host. There was no guidance on screen at that point and I blindly assumed that by choosing the virtualization function I would get necessary tools and drivers that will help me further on. It seems that this was a wrong move as you can see it below.
After completing the installation, I tried to search for a template or guiding on how the menu entry in menu.lst should look like but the grub directory was empty, not surprisingly because I've told CentOS earlier not to install it. Using the files in the /boot directory from the CentOS installation I tried to improvise a menu entry but it's not working. The boot stops with famous Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format. Using the file command to check what kind of files I'm trying to load as kernels I'm getting :
marte:~ # file /mnt/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen
/mnt/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Tue Jun 10 19:20:51 2008, max compression

I'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.

I have an old PC running 900Mhz Tbird CPU and 768Mb RAM. I also upgraded the HDD to a 60Gb. I've tried to install Gentoo, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint and all and everyone of them stop at the line "checking hlt instructions" during the installtion. I've looked over the web and there are quite a few cases with the same problem, nonetheless the solution is not clear to me, still. I've managed to install CentOS, though, with the help of web forums, bypassing the error by typing from the Kernel "linux no-hlt" and pressing enter. Now when I rebooted the machine it keeps doing even though the install completed succesfully. I'm interested in loading CentOS to build a server since I used to run Ubuntu 8.04 on that box without any problems.
