After the EOL of 0.94 clamav, I removed it stopped amavisd from having my mail scanned, and installed the new version of clamav 0.96.
But, when I try to start amavisd and send a test mail these bunch of errors appears:

I've read some posts that had no reply, someone tried to telnet to 127.0.0.1:3110 "the default port of clamd". I tried that but I got connection refused.
I am currently running Ubuntu Server 9.10 and followed this HOWTO on setting up my email server.

Everything seems to work correctly. If I look in the Maildir the emails I send to test are there.
The problem is when I try to sync my email via IMAP from my windows box (on a different network) it doesn't show any of my email nor does it deliver new email. My email app doesn't give any errors nor does the logs on the server.
How can I get it so my email syncs to windows computer? I am sure it is something really small that I am over looking but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I don't know if you need to see any of my config files but I can post them if needed.
I'm having a little trouble with ClamAV. Everytime someone sends me an email I get this error in my Webmin Mail Log. Now the mail works and it goes to the quarantine or to the user mail box but this error fills up my mail log and I'm assuming it is not using ClamAV virus definitions to scan the mail? How would I get rid of this error?
I checked in my /etc/clamd.conf and I have AllowSupplementaryGroups yes. What can be causing this error?

Looking into /lib there isn't an iptables directory but there's one named xtables. I tried creating a sybolic link:
But, still doesn't work don't know if is a bug or what but have other systems running without problems.
I running this on Lenny 5.0.4 and iptables was installed with apt-get install iptables.
I'm attempting to install a small application called Asymptopia Flashcard System on Xubuntu x64. It's unsupported and virtually unknown, so I don't know many details about it aside from what I can gather from the source files. The first step in the installation directions is to type "make lib_install" as root at the command line. I get this output:

all for the file Path.C, all of them complaining about various header files not being declared. I have the latest version of gcc installed, so I'm very confused about what the problem is. This application is at least a few years old...maybe there's something out-of-date about the way it includes the header files?
I tried to install Ubuntu on a Toshiba laptop today. When I tried booting with Lynx, threw out a bunch of errors about kernel threads. When I tried Karmic, it would only boot with Safe Graphics (everything else hangs the system), but nothing is ever displayed. I hear the Ubuntu start-up sound but the display stays blank. Does anyone have any advice on installing Ubuntu on this system?

This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption.This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
I've been using Linux for about a week, now, and yesterday I finally got my audio to work. Before shutting-down yesterday, I installed some more audio-plugins. When I started-up my computer today, there were errors in the console-text that appears while the Debian Linux OS is loading. When I got to the desktop, I tried to play music, but no sound came-out. So, I tried to uninstall the plugins I installed yesterday and restarted. I got similar errors in the console-text as earlier. When my desktop loaded, I still had no sound. I had several problems with the entire sound architecture of the computer. I made some more changes in the application-download-manager-thingy and restarted and I no longer got the errors at boot-time.
Unfortunately, I still have absolutely no sound, and it appears as if ALSA is effectively dead. My soundcards are Rocketfish (PCI) and Realtek HD Audio (Integrated). I got Realtek to work yesterday with OSS.
Another problem is that WINE doesn't work, with the exception of WINE's default programs. I've been trying to get this thing to work for at least four days now, and I've made absolutely no progress...
Also, after fighting with it for a few days, I finally managed to get the internet to work, but Linux still thinks that I'm offline. It's really weird. This one's not so much of a problem as it is annoying. In addition, if I click-on the network-manager-thingy, it says that none of my connections have ever been used. Odd.

Having problems compiling a program on a new server. It compiles just fine on Ubuntu 8.0.4 server but a new install of the latest Ubuntu Server edition it throws out a bunch of warnings on configure. I am assuming I am missing some lib's or something of the sort.

Just wondering. Every time I reload packages in synaptic I always get a whole bunch of failed "InRelease" or "TranslationIndex" URIs. Is that normal? I don't need any other translations for anything, just English. Is there something I should do to remove these from even being checked in the first place?

It all fits and boots but says "Failed to execute /busybox attempting defaults" /busybox is executable and should have the shared libraries available. I created both a dynamic and static hello world program and nether will boot as init. The root fs mounts without issues. What is the problem? (Sorry, Do not have the log since this is a different box) (May try to get it over serial console)

I have two suse linux server. Recently we got the license key. In one server I could able to register successfully. Another server is throwing an error. I am using yast-software- Novel customer center configuration. After selecting configure now, I am getting error has follows

Just figured this one out and thought I'd post it here in case it helped someone else. Skype just upgraded itself from 2.1 to 2.2. After upgrading it didn't start, and I got the message
"failed to execute child process skype-wrapper" First test out if skype runs from the command line, by running this in a terminal
Code: skype & If it runs, you're good to go: simply right click on the menu, locate your entry for skype and change the command to launch it from skype-wrapper to skype. The reason for this is that in the 2.1 version, skype needed a script called skype-wrapper to set some varibles before start up. Upgrading removes the script, but failed to update the menu entry.

I have a Debian mail server running Postfix, Amavisd-new, Clamav, & Spamassassin. I noticed when I started all the daemons, the mail.log file had some missing decoders which I assume Clamav can't scrub.Was there a missing package for resolving what's causing this notifications in the logs?

Does anyone know what this process does? I tried to find it online but didn't find anything. Also, I tried to find the binary on the server but find doesn't return anything. My Ubuntu update is scheduled to run every month on the 5th, so this was roughly 10 days after that. So it seems to me it's not update related. The only thing I've done on the server lately is update a spamassassin rule which required an amavis restart. That was done earlier in the week.
I've already reviewed issues at [url] and all the conditions are correct for the more recent How to.
I can also confirm that, in fact, /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl does not exist.
I have two servers complaining about ClamAV being outdated:

Doing an aptitude update says I don't have to upgrade anything. Why is this? Must ClamAV be updated manually?
In short, I've written a bash script (available from github) for configuring and removing instances of clamav-server on Fedora (clamd). It lets you create and remove individual instances with a specific user and port (if you specify them) and will install the required packages if not already present on the system and remove them if you want to. In long, we use Clam AntiVirus as our antivirus protection for Digital Preservation Recorder and talk to it over the default port, 3310 (clamd). Installing the clamav-server package under Fedora however, doesn't actually set up an instance. In fact, it doesn't copy any system configuration files into place at all. This means that the system is left without any working ClamAV server out of the box.
Under Fedora, ClamAV server is configured on a per user basis. This is actually quite important (unless you run as root) because the daemon needs at minimum read access (and we've found also write) on the files/directory being passed for scanning. The instructions on how to configure it are located under /usr/share/doc/clamav-server-[version]/ but I have taken these instructions and written a bash script to configure all of this for you. The script is available from github. It can create or remove an individual instance of clamav-server using a specific username and/or port (if you want to specify them, else it defaults to clamav on port 3310). The script will also install any required packages, if you don't already have them on the system. You also have the option of removing the required packages when you remove an instance. The script now also configures freshclam for you (the definitions updater), which needs to run as your user too.
