I just got a new Sandy Bridge motherboard which comes with a single Intel 82579v network port adapter.
Does anyone know a way to make the Intel 82579v network port work with Linux on Fedora 14?
I tried finding an Intel Linux driver online for it but no luck so far.
I read something online about it may have the newer kernel drivers available for the Fedora kernel, but not familiar with how that works.

Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?

I am setting up Apache (Fedora 12) inside my home network. From inside my home network I access it without any problem. I need to set it up to access it from internet. I have the following questions. Here is temporary setup for testing purpose.
Internet-->ADSL modem (SEIMENS Speed Stream 4200)---> Apache (Fedora 12)
1. Do I have to do any kind of ports forwarding on ADSL modem. (There is no option to do port forwarding on Modem) May be I need different Model of Modem??
2. I tired to Ping my real IP for modem form another computer from internet. I am even unable to PING the ADSL 's real IP. Why it is that?

Just got a SuperMicro X8SIL-F board, and I'm having trouble getting the onboard Ethernet controllers to work. They are both Intel 82574L Gigabit. One of them has (rev ff) at the end in lspci.
Out of the box, both controllers show up as eth0 and eth1, but the connection on either is flaky and unreliable. I installed an updated driver from the Intel Download Center, but now I lost one of my controllers and only have eth0. They still both show up in lspci. I installed the driver by extracting the archive and running make install in the src folder, then restarting.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 64bit 2.6.32-24-generic.

I get download speeds of no more than about 100 KiB/s...which is decent, but I usually I know my internet speed is max at about 600 KiB/s. If I go to Network Mananger (while a download is in progress), and click on my wireless network, it will disconnect, then reconnect, and I'll get download speeds of up around 600 KiB/s for a period of about 20-30seconds...then, I'm back down to the 50 KiB/s - 100 KiB/s.
Fedora can download at max speed for a little bit, but then goes down to about 100KiB/s for the rest of time (until I disconnect and reconnect again). Why does this happen, and how can I get my speed to stay at maximum potential? Also, Fedora 10 recognized my wireless network card when i had installed F10. But I'm worried that the best driver wasn't used for it. I've found my actual driver that I used on windows vista/xp, and installed that via ndiswrapper, but i don't think that ndiswrapper disabled my old driver... am i right about this? Maybe a solution to my problem would be to disable the driver that came preinstalled on F10, so it can use my newly installed one instead?
I have a Netgear WG511GE PCMCIA card, and a driver from the original installation disk. I used an ndiswrapper-utils gui called ndisgtk to install the driver. I then do the following to verify an installation:

Unfortunately, when I put the PCMCIA card in, nothing happens. On Windows, a green light flashes even if the card is not connected to any network. At first I thought this might be a hardware issue, so I did #lspci and got:

Lo and behold, when I put a different unbranded Wireless PC Card in it works. I'm no expert in Networks, but to me this suggests a driver problem (i.e. the card is physically detected it just won't work). However, the correct driver was installed with ndisgtk and this was verified with #ndiswrapper -l, hence the confusion.
I'd be grateful if anyone else has had this problem/knows of this problem and is willing to share the solution with me/point me in the right direction. So far, Google has returned a few posts from a few years ago talking about patching kernels and manually building files etc (just before Prism54 became integrated into the Linux kernel).

View 9 Replies View Relateda Toshiba L650 laptop, and installed F13 x86-64 on a disk partition using install DVD. The wired ethernet on this is Atheros AR8152, and the Wireless is Broadcomm 4313. Both these devices are not supported by default. So, as per instructions on the Linux Wireless site, and some guidance on this forum, have downloaded the Broadcomm driver tar on another machine, copied it onto the Toshiba laptop using a USB device, and then extracted, and ran the b43-fwcutter. The subdirectory /lib/firmware/b43 is created and has approx 3 dozen files. However, the Broadcomm driver is not showing up as an option in the Network Manager (system-config-network) or in the lsmod command output. I tried to manually add it by doing modprobe b43 command - it then begins to appear in the lsmod, but the option to add the Broadcomm wireless driver during a "New wireless Hardware" is not appearing still. I think, at an abstract level, I need to somehow "tell" the system to add the Broadcomm driver - am just not sure how to do so. On the other hand, the Atheros AR8152 has no driver as of now, so the wired Ethernet is also not connecting. how I can download all the required files on a different machine, and then install it on the Toshiba laptop?

I didn't want to bother anyone with this, but I just could't find a solution. I was happy using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition, because the wifi was working fine, but I messed everything up dealing with networking in terminal.
So formated and now I have Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition, but that didn't solved my problem at all, because my wifi driver still unfunctional.
Before anything, I tried commands like "dbus restart" and "network restart".
So after reading that I can install by getting ndisgtk and the .inf file, I downloaded the right driver from HP Support's page of my notebook. Extracted the package with Wine (got some error because I wasn't running Win7, of course, but that doesn't matter.).

I searched a lot, and I installed a driver from the package manager (can't remember the name ...). Well, restart, and it's stuck at the finish of fedora loading process (a blank line).
I can access to the terminal (ctrl + alt + f2) and modify kernel parameters. By the way, on gnome I could't enter to "Desktop Effects" (it threw an message like "can't enter 3D Acceleration")
I have an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with an integrated Atheros AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I installed Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid" 64bit Kernel version 2.6.32.21 I have read that the driver isn't in the kernel, but there's a strange thing :
First if I try to run lspci from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Second If I try to run lshw -C network from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Third if I run ifconfig it only returns my loopback address.
Can I suppose that my Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller is broken or that Atheros driver is missing?
Wireless networking doesn't seem to work. When I try to create a new network interface with system-config-network, my wireless card doesn't show up. The following comes from dmesg:

get multiple screens working in Xorg with the Intel driver? I can manage to get Dual Head working (one big screen), but I'm interested in having two seperate X sessions (two screens) instead.

So I installed without probleme the ethernet driver e1000e, but the wifi become a problem ! The wifi card is an intel centrino advanced-n 6205 agn. So I google it like other people and i found this :

Installing new Intel server S5000VSA (Sapello) motherboard with RAID 1. Downloaded F10 32 bit DVD and run install. Everything works fine and select Samba and all that. Install completes but on reboot get a blank screen.
I know with Windows one has to load the RAID driver off the Intel driver CD, so guess that is the problem. But how do I do this in Fedora? Question: How do I get to select the Intel RAID driver in the install process? There does not seem to be any place to stop and make this selection. I tried selecting the Red Hat and Suze installs on the Intel configuration assistant but it then reboots and that is it. In Windows it would ask to insert the Intel driver CD but that does not happen. So I am stuck. I loaded Fedora some 3 year ago and like it but then it was not on a RAID setup. I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.
