Red Hat / Fedora :: How To Install Downloaded Live Media For F14

Dec 27, 2010

I have downloaded the live media for Fedora 14 to an 11gb partition of my hard drive. After that I cannot figure out how to install it. I have previously had ubuntu linux earlier this year, but had a bad experience when I downloaded a boot loader for it.

Fedora :: Creating Custom Fedora Install/Live Media

Oct 17, 2009

I've recent begun to want to create a spin of Fedora for my high school to offer as an alternative to Mac OS X and Windows. My first attempt with any distro was to try and use Suse Studio, however nothing with packages that I downloaded myself would successfully compile. I then thought that I might try and use some sort of local program do create it with and tried Revisor, however when I made Live Media, Xorg wouldn't start and when I made DVD Install Media the kernel would kernel panic every time on boot.

Is there anyway to solve the problem with Revisor or are there any alternatives?

I have also tried using Ubuntu with the Ubuntu Customization Kit however that didn't work either considering I have to have it in a virtual machine.

Ubuntu :: Downloaded Quite A Few Different Media Players?

Aug 9, 2010

I went through and downloaded quite a few different media players, looking for one that would play this DVD. Well, I finally found one that worked, but now I can't remember which one it is, so I don't know which ones to remove. I want a media player that allows me to watch DVD's, listen to MP3/4's, watch all different types of movie files, make play lists, etc. Here's the list of what I have installed:

Amarok
Banshee
Dragon Player
Freevo
Kaffeine
Movie Player
Movie Player Totem (xine backend)
Rhythmbox
VLC Media Player

So, which ones can I get rid of, and which one(s) should I keep?

General :: How To Perform Root Level Commands - Fedora - Live Media

Jul 21, 2011

I need to use Live Media to make changes to a hard disk drive. I tried to sudo to no effect.

Seems like it would be troublesome to authorize root access on Live Media or have sudo allow commands such as pvcreate, lvcreate, vgcreate, especially if the hard disk is not encrypted.

General :: Media Player - None Of The Downloaded Music And Lists The Songs In Each Album Backwards

Nov 24, 2010

Let me begin by saying that I'm a "casual user" of my computer (I'm a retiree who uses her 'machine' for email, looking up mostly useless info, & pretending to be a writer). However, migraines from beating my head on the keyboard in frustration over Windows eccentricities led me straight to Linux. Linux blows windows out of the water, IMO.

Except for Media Players. I have tried every one in Ubuntu's software catalog. Rhythmbox is the only one that works, & it doesn't work correctly. I use my computer as my primary music source, & have saved nearly 200 albums/CDs to it. I transferred my collection to a memory stick, then tried to transfer it to Ubuntu. Rhythmbox 'accepted' most but not all albums, but none of the downloaded music, & lists the songs in each album backwards. When I open an album, sometimes Rhythmbox plays them backwards, sometimes (rarely) 'frontwards', but usually, jumps around, plays a few of the numbers, then stops. Occasionally, it goes through the collection, playing one song from each collection.

I was able to transfer the entire collection to 'Listen' media player, but it doesn't actually play anything, & I never even got that far with any other player. I have a two year-old HP Compaq Presario desktop w/ 500GB, (300 to Ubuntu & the rest to The Dreaded Windows for some stuff I can't run on Linux). I began with running Ubuntu 10.04 on 'wubi', then installed it from a CD I burned from the Ubuntu site. Someone suggested I had screwed something up during downloading, so I got 10.04 on a CD (w/ "Ubuntu for Non-Geeks"), but had the same media player problems. Last month I upgraded to 10.10, but still have the same problems.

Fedora :: How To Install Downloaded Applications

Jun 16, 2011

It's a newbie question that has probably already been answered hundreds of times, but Google didn't help me.
How can I install an application I've downloaded from the internet?I know I can easily install software with the terminal (apt-get, yum etc.) and that there is also a package manager. But still I'd like to know how to install an application I've downloaded with the browser. I've downloaded Thunderbird from this link URL...and after unpacking, I have a folder called 'thunderbird'. Now, what do I have to do to install the application?

I'm not actually concerned with installing Thunderbird anymore because when I typed 'thunderbird' in the terminal, it told me that it isn't installed and if it should be installed. I replied 'y' and some minutes later (slow internet connection...) it was installed and ready to use..

Ubuntu :: Lost Persistent Home Media In Live?

Sep 7, 2010

I partitioned a 32 gB flash drive to one 8 gig and one 24 gig partition. Both fat32. I wanted to be able to access the 24 gig partition from XP.I installed a persistent 10.04 on the 8 gig partition. All ran well for about 3 weeks. Today during boot up I noticed that it had stalled at "creating live session user". I left it there for several minutes and then powered down to retry.Several attempts to boot left me at the same spot.I looked at the boot up messages and noticed this error... "unable to find persistent home media".I don't have a ton of save info on the live user account but I would like to be able to fix this type of problem.

Fedora Installation :: 10 Install Failure After Media Check

Mar 25, 2009

Just to reiterate on the title, the installation of Fedora 10 i386 (DVD) on a 32bit PC. Is failing on me after the media check (whether or not I do it), so not even making it to the language selection. Currently running a nvidia AGP video card was previously using an ati PCI card but swapping has done little to help.

The only argument that lets me passed this point is noprobe, which then fails a bit later as it can't pick up the install media. I've also tried a live CD which seems to be a bit hit and miss as to whether or not it even loads. It then either fails to even let me run the install to HDD or it comes up some error about failures in python code (Don't have the exact error as the last few times haven't even booted). Below is a couple of errors I get from the standard installer

[Code].....
