I am trying, or rather wondering if I could put Linux on a touch Media Player that I have purchased in Taiwan. It is a Garmma media player that has a lot of capability but I would like to have Ubuntu or Kubuntu or something of the sort on it. It doesn't have wifi on it, but it has an internal hard drive of 8gb and is expandable to 40gb with a flash drive. I am able to format the hard drive because it shows up on my computer as a removable drive. Now when I tried to install it through the flash drive it didn't work because the Media Player can't run .exe files. I have searched around on the internet to find out if I could do this and found nothing.
Ii want to install VLC media player in mandriva linux 2009. I have tried the rpm packages from rpm.pbone.net but the rpm installation is not completed. I have downloaded the vlc from www.videolan.org but unable to install it. I have mandriva 2009.0
I'm having some tough time installing VLC on RHEL5. Tried yum install vlc. And there were many dependencies to begin with, however managed to install some RPMS manually and reduce the dependencies. BUT still have one more. Please look into the below details:

But the library is already installed. (I installed it manually from a RH4 rpm).

I'm a new Fedora user and I've been downloading some software from the repositories. BUT, I found a problem: I can't play ANY media with ANY player; however, I can hear system sounds but music. I've tried several media players (Exaile, Amarok, Audacius) but none of them can play a song. The format of all my music library is MP3. In the pre-installed Rhytmbox and Totem it says something about codecs and searches for them, but finds none.
I am really fedup from playing .mpg (1080i) videos on linux. I tried to use smplayer or vlc but the video plays so poor, I got like scales (lines) on the video like on the screenshot embedded below (the screenshot I found on the net).
When I play the same video on windows 7 its so great with windows media player 12, when I play it with smplayer or vlc on windows 7 I got the same performance like in linux, its like windows media player has its own mpg hardware accelerator!
Any website where I might be ale to download .deb package fr vlc media player for kubuntu. My kubuntu cannot connect to the net. So I have to use windows.
I decided to try kubuntu after reading over the webs. I got lastest 10.04 release of kubuntu installed (downloaded yesterday).
So far i dont seem to get any mediaplayer to work correctly with video files (avi's and Video_ts.ifo's). I've tried:
- built in Dragon - Vlc - mplayer and kmplayer/smplayer - xine
The result is as follows
- Dragon plays only Dvd's "vob" files but cannot switch audio or subtitles - vlc wont open ANYTHING at all - mplayer crashes on anything as well - xine will play some videos as dragon but wont play vob files (no "muxer")
At first i installed recommended stuff to play mp3's. When i tried to watch films or dvd's i couldnt do it with Dragon so i tried to install so advertised VLC. I did, and when i open ANY file in VLC, it closes itself. Just closes. Or on rare occasions (when opening some of dvd's files) it just opens a big black screen and reverts to starting small state w/o screen or file opened. I can even sometimes see the first picture from the video blink before it closes. I couldnt get ANY file to play on VLC not even an mp3... I then installed some packages that told they contain codecs to play alot of formats, and package for "encoded dvd's" - nothing.
After that i've seen that now i can play some videos (avi's and stuff) and even DVD's with built in Dragon video player, but dragon cannot understand subtitles or different audio streams. I tried mplayer and Xine with no luck as well.
Now since its not a problem of one player, but i cannot get to play video_ts.ifo files at all and cannot get vlc and mplayer to play anything at all, there must be something i am doing wrong.
Ubuntu10.10.i want a media player with all media codecs.it should able to play all formats of videos and audios so please suggest me a media player.(i used km player in windows i want a media player like that)
Is there a default media player in linux such as windows media/ if so what is the name of it or can i download one that works with linux, i would like for the player to not only play music but watch videos as well.
I'm using fedora 13(64 bit system). I had recently installed VLC media player (version:1.0.6). Which installed properly, without any errors, but when I tried to play video files with vlc, its not working. Even when I tried to execute vlc using command prompt it resulted like this.....
I recently switched back to ubuntu after a year of gaming on w7, however I think that this time I'm going to stick to ubuntu, if she doesnt screw me like she has the previous times. Anyways, I was just wondering what media players you guys favor, and why? (maybe there doesn't have to be a reason xD), and I tried to install beep media player with: sudo aptitude install beep-media-player And the return is: sudo: aptitude: command not found
Streaming / Transcoding failed: It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3. If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution. This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue.
It said not to contact VideoLAN, but instead the Distro so...here I am. Was there a file I should download in order to fix this? If there is one, where do I place it or run it to stop this error?
Crystal Player has one very good playback speed troubleshooting feature - it uses large buffer of decoded frames (about 50% of RAM). Is there any player with such features in ubuntu?
When playing coyright protected DVD's in Ubuntu 10.10: the following errors occur:Movie Player Error message:Error occured Could not read from resourceVLC media Player Error essage:Playback failure:DVDRead could not read block 0.Non copyright protected DVD's play fine
Iam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.
