View 1 RepliesI guess I need to start off by saying that I am new to Fedora. Most of my media files come from iTune. therefore, I have download mplayer, xmm and Audacious to play the ACC, Mp4 and Mpv files. None of the media players play ACC or mp4 files. I downloaded the ACC plugins for mplayer, XMM and Audacious but it still does not work. Also Mplayer will not show show a video file, but the sound works. When I start mplayer the screen freezes and glitches. I have screen shots showing the glitch issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just shifted from Ubuntu based system to Fedora 12, but am unable to install vlc media player on this OS. I searched for the same here and followed the instructions as:

While I was trying to install vlc media player in red hat. I got the following error message:

I recently put Linux back on my laptop (Vector) and I am trying to get any of the media players on it to recognize and play the music on my desktop, which is running Windows 7 Ultimate with WMP streaming music over my wireless network. I was wondering if this can be done, or if these features have yet, if ever, to be implemented.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed fedora 11 I had bad sound which crackled and crashed. I followed this guide -http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=225660 - which fixed my issues in videos playing on the web and in VLC. However; in the last few days sound has bugun crackling again in VLC while playing videos (web is fine). All updates have been applied and I am running 32 bit Fedora 11.
Also totem when playing video crashes, freezes, crackles etc while playing videos though playing sound files is fine with no issues. Any ideas how I might solve this and get my sound while playing videos back to how it used to be?

wasn't quite sure how to search for this the question always seemed to be too long and i'd get nothing related to my problem. its not a huge problem, but if i could fix it, that's be awesome
there's websites, such as videos, that i can't choose anything in the actual media player... to be more specific, it plays just fine, but it i wanted to pause, turn down the volume, rewind, or skip ahead, nothing happens, it acts as though i'm not clicking on anything. i guess its not a big deal, but just a little annoyance.
I went through and downloaded quite a few different media players, looking for one that would play this DVD. Well, I finally found one that worked, but now I can't remember which one it is, so I don't know which ones to remove. I want a media player that allows me to watch DVD's, listen to MP3/4's, watch all different types of movie files, make play lists, etc. Here's the list of what I have installed:
Amarok
Banshee
Dragon Player
Freevo
Kaffeine
Movie Player
Movie Player Totem (xine backend)
Rhythmbox
VLC Media Player
So, which ones can I get rid of, and which one(s) should I keep?
I use suse 11.2 86_64 on a comp with Nvidia Geforce 8300 on the motherboard using 512 Mb from main memory, AMD X2 Dual Core 4600+ RAM 8 GB DDR2 Dual channel and have following problem - from time to time when play a video (streaming or playing a file with any video player - vlc, smplayer, kaffeine etc.) the sound suddenly disappears short afterwards everything freezes even mouse, the hard disk work as wild and after 5 minutes or so the players quit and everything comes alive again. Long time I could not see the process responsible for that because even screen freezes, once I had the luck and noticed a process kswapd0 appearing in time of such an event. I googled and there were similar complying connected with that daemon. I read it will be a good idea to minimize the amount of swap, which in my case is 2 Gb , I unmounted the entire swap and restarted and the OS remains only on RAM 7,5 GB . The event appeared again and there were significant different, it obviously was shorter in time (about a minute) and mouse freezes for short period of time, but again the player quits on the end of the event. Is there a way that the process could be managed in some way as it is very annoying appearing all of a sudden with no warning or something ? Of course if that memory shifting or cleaning is the main problem, again it happens only in case player works and not every time, it is random.

I'm running openSUSE 11.2 on KDE, although the problem persists on other desktops. I followed the instructions on SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE, as well. If anyone needs any other information, please let me know. It worked before, I don't know what caused it to stop working.
As well, I've tried to install the restricted formats, but even when my audio did work, it wouldn't play them. I followed the instructions specific to my version on the restricted formats guide.
Only a few minutes ago, my sound just seemed to disappear while I was listening to some Dream Theater.
The onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS as I'm using another card.
Rhythmbox won't play anything. Starting a song just leaves the progress bar sitting at the start.
Sound preferences shows everything up at full. I tried modding the volume, but I can't move it (It moves for like a millisecond then hits 100% again).
It's a C-Media sound card. It was working perfectly prior to a few minutes ago.
What's going' on here?
I dont know what ive done but all of media players play videos in color, blue. How can i fix this problem ?

the whole purpose is i am trying to play ..... files and listen to myspace/music. i am off to cedar point to catch some coasters and laughs with some friends. i'll be back on around 12 am and i hope sm1 can help. i just spent all morning trying to get this to work. i tried everything i read online. nothing worked. trying to play videos vidoes i get message: youtotem: unable to find video source.
There is no sound when I play a movie. The only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine. Amarok plays MP3 just fine. All the rest does not. Not vlc, (s)mplayer. An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter. I have installed all restricted codecs but I had to doe it 2 times, the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation what's interrupted.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 9.10 dual booted with XP on a laptop. Whenever I try to play any video files, even just bog standard avi files, the media player just shuts down and disappears. This has happened with the movie player that comes with the OS as well as VLC. I also tried out Dragon Player and the files seem to load up and when played the timeline slider just skips across to the end in about 5 seconds but no picture is shown during this time. The codecs all appear to be installed fine even though I know that VLC doesn't require them. My video card is ATI and I know that it works fine as these files play alright when booted up into XP, Hi-Def included.

I removed and reinstalled all players, changed repositories and downgraded, reinstalled qt and python but nothing seems to fix the problem with these players.I installed some other players (audacious, exaile, vlc, foobnix) and they are working pretty well. View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Unbuntu and tried a couple of media players to listen to music. This was a cd I put in the cd Rom. Both media players seemed to work ok, except that I was not getting any sound from either one. I did check to see if the volume control was on nil. That was ok. I do however have Sound blaster sound card installed. so my on board sound is off. I am not into the linux language as yet so I am a bit stuck at the moment.

In suse 11.2 when play a video file the media players eats up to 50% cpu and pulseaudio another 18-20% with compiz turn on, when i turn the compiz off media player goes down to 7-8 % and pulseaudio 1-2%. And mplayer crashes as well with a report that's too long to post. Well I can live without mplayer. What am I doing wrong. Accepting updates perhaps?
this is probably going to seem like quite an odd post, and something that most of you probably won't even be aware of, but it is something that affects me a lot, maybe cos im slightly ocd about how things are organised on my computer, but here goes:
when adding music to a music player, say banshee- which is my favourite ubuntu one, many of the tracks information are often 'auto corrected', im not sure how this is done, whether there is information stored on the file, or whether the player accesses a database on the internet, but basically this is not what i want, i want to be able to upload the files and change them from the state that they are when i upload them. can anyone else relate to this problem? or know of a solution..
the thing is, it is only about 20% of the files that are changed after uploading and i have no idea what the reason is for it, and its not restricted to banshee, it happens with just about all media players
