Fedora :: How To Install MATLAB (Zip File Downloaded)

Feb 26, 2010

I am very new to linux. I just got the dual boot working a couple of days ago. Now I downloaded MATLAB (2009b) from my university website. It came in a zip file...well I have no clue how to install it. I looked at the instruction manual, it doesn't really explain much.

Fedora :: Installing MATLAB - Cannot Open Shared Object File

Sep 8, 2011

I am trying to install matlab R2011a student edition in Fedora 15, 64 bits system. This version of matlab do not support 64 bits linux out of the box, but can be installed by adding -glnx86 as an argumenof the installing script.

However after running the installation script I receive the following error message:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/mathworks_32316/java/jre/glnx86/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so: libXext.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It seems to be a problem with libXext.so.6, however, I do have libXext library installed in my computer. The name of the package I have installed is:
X.Org X11 libXext runtime library
libXext-1.2.0-2.fc15 (x86_64)

Fedora Networking :: Find Out What File Is Being Downloaded From What IP?

Jul 24, 2011

I've got something or someone downloading from me, probably scraping, and i can't figure out WHAT is using all of my bandwidth, and WHERE it's coming from.I don't know what SERVICE its from (eg, is this an apache request, or DNS DOS), what FILES are being accessed (if any, eg apache requests/scrape), and what IP is requesting them.My apache logs isn't showing anything that makes me thing i'm being scrapped. I'm kinda stuck in a brain fart right now and can't remember how to track this down, but the long and short is that all of my band width is being consumed, and 1 of my CPU cores is staying maxed out ("top" says that it's the avahi service).I've shut off the following services 1 by 1 to see if any of them would cause a drop in network usage, and none of them did:

apache
samba
postfix

Red Hat / Fedora :: Track The Number Of Requests That A File Gets Downloaded And Viewed ?

Apr 10, 2011

I want to track the number of requests that a file gets downloaded and viewed.

What I have is mp4 files on the server and they could either get played in flash player or downloaded via mobile or whatever.

I need to see how many times that files gets downloaded or viewed. Since its in a php page I am able to track the number of views. But I want to able to track the direct downloads.

I was thinking something along the lines of htaccess redirect to php then to file.

But that would mess up the player from playing the file I would think. I am not sure how to make that happen with the htaccess either though.

Fedora :: How To Install Downloaded Applications

Jun 16, 2011

It's a newbie question that has probably already been answered hundreds of times, but Google didn't help me.
How can I install an application I've downloaded from the internet?I know I can easily install software with the terminal (apt-get, yum etc.) and that there is also a package manager. But still I'd like to know how to install an application I've downloaded with the browser. I've downloaded Thunderbird from this link URL...and after unpacking, I have a folder called 'thunderbird'. Now, what do I have to do to install the application?

I'm not actually concerned with installing Thunderbird anymore because when I typed 'thunderbird' in the terminal, it told me that it isn't installed and if it should be installed. I replied 'y' and some minutes later (slow internet connection...) it was installed and ready to use..

Fedora :: How To Set Permissions For Matlab

Sep 18, 2010

I need to set up permissions for matlab (at least I think permissions is the problem). I haven't been able to find any conclusive instructions how to set permissions and the advice I see are often confusing or contradictory. I have installed matlab (64-bit version) using root account as that was recommended by the installer and everything seems fine except for the error message I got after installation:

[root@localhost User]# /mnt/dvd/install
The following messages were written to standard error while running 'xsetup' the X Window System version of 'install'.
xsetup: Unable to load required font.
Warning: This program is an suid-root program or is being run by the root user. The full text of the error or warning message cannot be safely formatted in this environment. You may get a more descriptive message by running the program as a non-root user or by removing the suid bit on the executable.
Warning: Cannot convert string "%s" to type %s
Check the content of the installation output file (backend):

/usr/local/lib64/matlab/install_matlab.out
Error messages found:
Warning: Permission Problem With MATLAB Files!
| Checked some files in your MATLAB root directory. These are bad:|
-r--r--r--. (not world readable) - ./toolbox/matlab/general/diary.m .....

Can I set up permissions to make it work afterwards? If so - how? I see the error message talking about the permissions being -r--r--r-- which I guess is only readable to all users. But should I set permissions to folders, executables or both? Was there anything I could have done before installation to make this work? I'm rather new to linux though I feel quite comfortable to work with the terminal. My system is fedora 13.

I found this excellent resource: [URL]. Though I'm still not sure how to set up permissions and I'm a bit hesitant as I don't want to create any security holes in my system. Would it be enough for me to give executable rights for my user to the program files in usr/local/bin? Now that I look at the permissions it seems I already have permission (through others...?) to the mentioned files.

We've tried playing around with X server and are going to try VNC when there's time.
