Red Hat / Fedora :: HBA Card - Connect The HBA To Another Switch Port

Dec 3, 2010

I have 2 HBA's in my system, in that one shows as READY state and the other HBA shows as DEAD state. I have asked the datacenter guys to to connect the HBA to another switch port and I rebooted the server. After reboot the second HBA came to READY state but after some time again it went to DEAD state.

Host adapter:loop state = <DEAD>, flags = 0x45a03

Is this the problem with the server or with the storage end

Fedora Networking :: 14 Can't Connect To SpeedTouch 585 - Either Wireless Broadcom Card Or The Wired Ethernet Card

Dec 4, 2010

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Fedora Networking :: HP Mini 110 Broadcom Wireless - Can't Get The Card To Turn On Using The Slide Switch

Sep 11, 2009

I have an HP mini 110 with Fedora 11 install. I installed the broadcom-wl and wl-kmod from yum but still no wireless. First I can't get the broadcom card to turn on using the slide switch on the front of the computer. The device is inactive in the network configuration-devices window. The card is not in the network configuration hardware window. When I try to add it manually, there is no entry for the card in the drop down list. I am new to Fedora but have used linux for years. Unfortunately this is my first attempt at wireless networking.

The posts and google stuff doesn't say much more than "yum install broadcom-wl" Can anyone point me into the right direction? I have a feeling I am missing something very simple, because this computer dual boots Linux Mint and wireless works flawlessly.

Fedora :: Connect To The Localhost At Port 6667 Using Irssi?

Aug 18, 2010

I want to use bitlbee-irssi to IM using gtalk.. I have installed bitlbee and edited /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf with

RunMode = ForkDaemon
User = bitlbee
DaemonInterface = 127.0.0.1
DaemonPort = 6667

Now when I try to connect to the localhost at port 6667 using irssi, i get the following error message saying it cannot connect to localhost port 6667

13:48 -!- Irssi: Looking up localhost
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connecting to localhost [127.0.0.1] port 6667
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection to localhost established
13:48 -!- Error: bind: Permission denied
13:48 -!- Error: listen: Bad file descriptor
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection lost to localhost

A similar looking error comes up when I try to telnet localhost at 6667. Also, I get a selinux warning saying SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/bitlbee "name_bind" access .How do I check if bitlbee is listening to port 6667? Btw, I am using fedora 13, I have selinux running in enforcing mode and the firewall running. I have set the port 6667 in the other ports tab of "system-config-firewall" (I am hoping that this will open that port).

Networking :: Allow A Certain Ip On A Certain Switch Port?

Oct 6, 2010

Server is on Port 1, with an address of 10.3.2.1.

Someone plugs into Port 2 and gives themself the same address.

That would cause problems, right?

So, is there a way, to say to the switch, "Hey, 10.3.2.1 is on Port 1, and nowhere else. Do not let anyone use the IP 10.3.2.1 on any other port, and if they do, disallow the traffic."

Fedora Networking :: Ssh: Connect To Host 192.168.1.100 Port 22: Connection Refused

Nov 27, 2010

I have my desktop computer (running F13) configured to accept ssh over port 22 via the firewall configuration tool. If I type ifconfig -a, this computer, which is running on my wireless network, tells me:

Code:

inet addr:192.168.1.100 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

However, if I go to my laptop computer (also running F13) and try and ssh into the desktop, i.e. ssh icthy@192.168.1.100, I get this response:

Code:

ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.100 port 22: Connection refused.

I guess I am confused to what is blocking the connection? Is there another means on F13 other than the default Firewall? I haven't really messed with the network at all. For what it's worth, I am hoping to set things up so I can just ssh into the computer name, (ssh icthy@desktop) eventually, but want to start with the IP. So, can anyone offer a hint as to what I can look for that is blocking port 22?

Networking :: Fedora 11 Gnome Application Can't Connect To Socket Port 8005

Jul 3, 2009

I have an x application I am trying to run under gnome. It assumes a fixed ip address and exclusive use of the eth0. I have run it under gnome on RHEL 5.3. I set the ip address and ifconfig confirms the correct address. When I run it I get "SocketConnect() error:

Resource temporarily unavailabele, port 8005. (on the terminal that I started it)

This is indicative that it has failed to make a connection to the outside world. One difference I notice between the non-working and the working is that, the error message seems to stop coming out on the fedora gnome, almost immediately, whereas on the other installations it will come out indefinitely until it connects. is virb0 interferring. What is different in the networking on fedora 11 then RHEL?

General :: Tomato/DD-WRT Router To Act As Switch And Only NAT Some Port

Sep 17, 2010

I have a device that must use a real IP address. Currently, my ISP uses DHCP and I can have up to 4 real IP address assigned. However, the cable modem only have 1 ethernet port and it's connected to my router (running Tomato, but can run DD-wrt or other Openwrt if required). Question stems from how I can connect the additional device, requiring a real IP? would be to get a switch and connect to the CM, Router, and Device. But alas, I want to avoid this route, since:

my wiring cabinet in my home is drawing lots of power and heat already Device will be unprotected by any firewall unable to monitor the traffic to/from device.Besides, what would be the FUN in that? what I want to do is to configure the router, so that one of the switchport is removed from the normal br0 bridge. Instead, I want to make it behave like a switch on the WAN port. What's the best way of doing this? Should I create another bridge on the WAN & the device port? Can a single port belongs to two bridges? or would I need to create a subinterface first? Would I need a DHCP-relay? Am I expecting too much from my poor cheapie router?

Hardware :: Check The Status Of A Switch Though Serial Port?

Oct 20, 2010

I would need to monitor the status of an electric relay. To do so I was thinking the serial port and perl (as I don't know C ) how to check if a switch connected to a serial port is open or closed. Here is my plan, I'll plug a electric relay on the electric network and monitor the state of the switch. if the switch is closed, that mean that we are on the electric network if the switch is open that mean that we are on our diesel power generator.

PS: There will be no voltage input involve (although I can if that's required)

I'm planning to use this with Nagios to know if we are on the electric network or on our diesel power generator.

Hardware :: Can No Longer Connect To San Device / When San Switch Changed

I have 2 HP DL585 servers with Emulex fibre channel cards that were originally running RHEL 5.3 and 5.2 with kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 connected to a san.I have now patched these to RHEL 5.5, kernel 2.6.194-8.1.el5.The san team have moved the cabling from a standard san switch to a fabric san switch and I have tried to configure multipath.Since the cable move, the servers display 2 lines of:shpchp:shpc_init: cannot reserve mmio region then the boot halts with sda5 device or resource busy.

Returning the cables to the original switch and removing the multipath config allows the servers to boot. What is the shpchp error and is this causing the problem?Why would changing the switch the cable plugs into cause the server to fail to boot with the device busy message?Also, it's not easy to arrange downtime on these servers, so I don't know when I'll next have a chance to reboot them.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Netcat / Port Redirection - When A Connection Is Received On A Port Say 123?

i am running ncat (netcat's new version from nmap) on centos . I am listening on different ports. My question is , is it possible that when a connection is received on a port say 123, i redirect this connection to a different port and use the 123 port again for listening connections. ncat has an option -k which u can add with -l , it will force fully listen on the port. It can accept multiple connections on a single port but i want that once a client connects on to 123 port, he is forwarded to some other port and no longer on 123.
