I have asked the datacenter guys to to connect the HBA to another switch port and I rebooted the server. After reboot the second HBA came to READY state but after some time again it went to DEAD state.

Aug 18, 2010I want to use bitlbee-irssi to IM using gtalk.. I have installed bitlbee and edited /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf with
RunMode = ForkDaemon
User = bitlbee
DaemonInterface = 127.0.0.1
DaemonPort = 6667
Now when I try to connect to the localhost at port 6667 using irssi, i get the following error message saying it cannot connect to localhost port 6667

A similar looking error comes up when I try to telnet localhost at 6667. Also, I get a selinux warning saying SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/bitlbee "name_bind" access .How do I check if bitlbee is listening to port 6667? Btw, I am using fedora 13, I have selinux running in enforcing mode and the firewall running. I have set the port 6667 in the other ports tab of "system-config-firewall" (I am hoping that this will open that port).

Nov 27, 2010I have my desktop computer (running F13) configured to accept ssh over port 22 via the firewall configuration tool. If I type ifconfig -a, this computer, which is running on my wireless network, tells me:

However, if I go to my laptop computer (also running F13) and try and ssh into the desktop, i.e. ssh icthy@192.168.1.100, I get this response:

I guess I am confused to what is blocking the connection? Is there another means on F13 other than the default Firewall? I haven't really messed with the network at all. For what it's worth, I am hoping to set things up so I can just ssh into the computer name, (ssh icthy@desktop) eventually, but want to start with the IP. So, can anyone offer a hint as to what I can look for that is blocking port 22?

Jul 3, 2009I have an x application I am trying to run under gnome. It assumes a fixed ip address and exclusive use of the eth0. I have run it under gnome on RHEL 5.3. I set the ip address and ifconfig confirms the correct address. When I run it I get "SocketConnect() error:
Resource temporarily unavailabele, port 8005. (on the terminal that I started it)
This is indicative that it has failed to make a connection to the outside world. One difference I notice between the non-working and the working is that, the error message seems to stop coming out on the fedora gnome, almost immediately, whereas on the other installations it will come out indefinitely until it connects. is virb0 interferring. What is different in the networking on fedora 11 then RHEL?

Apr 13, 2010I have Fedora 12 Repo installed. The computer has wire and wireless connections but I cant set it up any one of them. I can add a wire connection but it does not connect. I cant add any wireless connection because all the different options dont show up the apply button active. The dual boot does not work also. It only allows you to log on to Fedora Repo. I tried to install the i386 option but it failed to connect. I was using Mepis 8.5 before and I did not have any of these problems when I first installed it.

Oct 24, 2009I recently installed Fedora 11 on Sony Vaio laptop and I cannot connect to the internet. I used many different kind of browsers and no luck. I am using wireless it is Broadcom 2200 card and i can tell the driver is installed correctly and it says I am connected to the wireless fine. Strange thing is that when i use software update it downloads them fine which means the internet is there. But I cannot goto any webpage with my browser. I run ifconfig and i can even ping websites without problem. I checked my firewall to see if its blocking my port 80 but it was not blocking.

Oct 15, 2010Just installed Fedora 13 (64-bit). Brand new to Linux and not much of a computer expert.
As the subject line says, I am unable to connect to the Internet.
Things that I have already tried based on threads posted for similar problems:
* ping -c 5 www.google.com
unknown host www.google.com
* ping -c 5 74.125.159.105
Network is unreachable
I connect to the Internet via wired ethernet. The modem/gateway is 2Wire mod. 2701HG-B. Service provider is AT&T DSL. Ethernet controller is Realtek Semiconductor RTL8111/81688 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet. When I go to System -> Administration -> Network Device Control it shows eth0 as inactive.
Network Configuration shows:
* Hostname: localhost.localdomain
* Primary/Secondary/Tertiary DNS: blank
* DNS Search Path: blank
I have no problem whatsoever connecting to the Internet when using Windows XP.

May 19, 2011I just installed Fedora 14 on my laptop as a Dual Boot with Windows 7.The problem I am having is that I can't get fedora to connect to my wireless internet.I can access it just fine on the windows side.On my Fedora desktop at the top there a little icon with two little computer monitors there is also a little x by them. Here is whats in the computer as far as networking devices:
Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless Lan 802.11N PCI-E NIC
I also have a:
Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
No matter how I configure settings it don't work.If I have to download something on the windows side to fix this please let me know how to get it to the linux partition.
Fedora :: F15 / Firefox Cannot Connect To Internet

Windows 7 gets on the internet no problem, so does this RHEL/FF machine, iphone too, but F15/Firefox no joy. it's showing me connected to my network just fine. I'm pretty sure it worked at some point because I did my software updates and I have a saved bookmark, though I don't remember exactly.

Jul 20, 2011I've been using 3 different distros for the last 2 weeks. Ubuntu, Fedora and Mint. And i've been using Windows since I can remember. I won't talk here about the benefits I got with Linux, because everyone knows that. But there's something about Linux that keeps annoying me, no offence to Linux users, and I want to ask you about that.
It just seems impossible to install additional software without an Internet connection. I tried: Keryx, Opyum, Suhi,huh?, Synaptics generate download script, yum -downloadonly. I didn't yet: Debian 10DVD I'm not programmer, and my knowledge about computers and operative systems is very small. But installing software on Windows the worst case of dependencies i saw was I had to download just one more .exe file (.NET framework or klite codec pack installers, for example).
question: Is there any Linux distro or any way where packages are managed in a more compact fashion? Suppose I want to use Wine, how I download some megapackage with ALL dependencies or something like that? How system administrators manage where no Internet connection at all (if that possible)?

However, when I rebooted I could no longer connect to the Internet. I went to network manager and looked at the details of my connection. Everything ok there. I jus wanted to experience how the CLI- Command Line Interface world is and to test the text based internet apps like elinks,lynx etc.. So I changed the runlevel to 3 in my /etc/inittab file. Now when I fire it up, it gives me the terminal.
The problem is I am unable to connect to internet. How should i connect to the Wireless Access Points.. n also here internet is under a http proxy ...so how to configure the connection.

Ethernet works fine though but when I unplug the cable and try to mess with the settings, I still can't connect. I'm currently using Mac iBook G4 and I can see that my wireless card (Broadcom wireless b/g) has been detected but I just can't seem to figure out how to make it work.
