I've decided I want to cross over to Ubuntu from Win vista but there's one thing i cant get working. My wireless card. My wireless card is a Xterasys xn 2523g I can't make this switch until i have the internet working.

My laptop has a switch on the side that enables or disables the wireless card and every now and again its inevitable that someone accidentally switches it off. I have an HP mini 110 with Fedora 11 install. I installed the broadcom-wl and wl-kmod from yum but still no wireless. First I can't get the broadcom card to turn on using the slide switch on the front of the computer. The device is inactive in the network configuration-devices window. The card is not in the network configuration hardware window. When I try to add it manually, there is no entry for the card in the drop down list. I am new to Fedora but have used linux for years. Unfortunately this is my first attempt at wireless networking.
The posts and google stuff doesn't say much more than "yum install broadcom-wl" Can anyone point me into the right direction? I have a feeling I am missing something very simple, because this computer dual boots Linux Mint and wireless works flawlessly.
I have a Dell Studio 1558 with a Broadcom wireless adapter. It's a brilliant piece of hardware and love everything about it except some of it's overheating problems. When I first bought it with Windows 7 pre-installed, it had an application installed on it called PeerNet, which creates a wireless network for other computers (and wifi-enabled phones) to connect to it. Simultaneously, you could also share your internet connection with these users. The internet connection could be either wired or wireless.
My question is, how do I go about finding the same functionality on Ubuntu since I know my hardware is capable of it. (I believe in Windows 7, it creates a virtual adapter that it uses) I know there are ways to share a WIRED internet connections with some help with the terminal, but I haven't found a way to share a WIRELESS internet connection. The network manager allows you to create a wireless network but I'm unable to connect to another wireless network at the same time.
The reason I mentioned mobile phones is because my mobile (Android 2.2) is unable to find a wireless network created by the network manager, but another laptop is (without internet access that is). I've noticed that mobile devices and iPod's aren't able to find ad-hoc networks on Windows PCs as well.
I hope someone out there will be able to find a solution for me (and surely others as well!) Maybe the final release of 11.04 will help out later if nothing turns up now.
Just upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu(unity), and my wireless isn't working. I have the 14e4:4315 Wireless Card so I followed this posts [URL].... And still have no wifi, when I click the icon in the menu bar it says under "Wireless Networks": "wireless is disabled by hardware switch", which ins't true because on my Vostro 1520, there is only one switch and it is in the on position. I've tried 3 versions of ubuntu and none of them work with wifi getting tired of it.

it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.

I've been trying to make/compile the driver for a wireless card. The card is usb, it's titled Micronext MN-WD550M and seems to use the rtl8712 driver.Firstly, though I did this once two years ago I seem to have completely forgotten how to install a driver in ubuntu.
Secondly, I'm not sure I have the right driver anyway since in the notes in the readme it says it is for i386 (I run amd 64). The driver is here [URL] Thirdly, after clicking through various readmes and documentation without feeling any more intelligent, I then tried using ndiswrapper to install a windows driver and ubuntu would crash if the usb wireless card was plugged in. Blarg.I feel like this should be so simple I'm going to make a clean installation of ubuntu 10.10 shortly (for various unrelated reasons) so anything I messed up with ndiswrapper should be back to normal.
Ubuntu 10.4 with wireless card TP-Link TL-WN321G the driver installed and it connect to the wireless network but no internet access. I followed one tutorial about creating an ad-hoc network and all looked good, until I actually wanted to connect (or to be more precise, my machine is a host for other computers). The wireless icon just loops endlessly, without connecting and eventually I get "Wireless network - disconnected" message.
So, the main issue here is - connecting! I just can't. Also if you know/have some good tutorial for ad-hoc,

I have installed a wireless card in my Ubuntu 9.04 System. When I start Firefox, it keep searching for a while and it cannot connect to the internet. I have attached screen shots of network connections. When I type the address of the router in the browser address window, it cannot access the router.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

Usually when this happens, for 10 or 20 seconds it appears to be connected (i.e. the heart symbol is there) but I can't ping google or my router, then it "realizes" it's disconnected. It takes one or two attempts to reconnect successfully by pressing the "active" button. Meanwhile throughout the disconnections and re-connections the signal is very strong (98%).
I had the same problem with my old access point, at first I thought it was the cheap/old hardware, so now I bought an "ENCORE ENDSL-A2+WIGX2 | ADSL 2+ Modem with 4 Port Wireless Router". The problem persists only with a stronger signal.
I have been trying to get my Trendnet TEW-649UB wireless card to work on Karmic. I have ndiswrapper "installed", but it doesn't seem to be working. I have reinstalled ndiswrapper-utils 1.9 and ndiswrapper-common from synaptic, but not ndisgtk (the GUI for ndiswrapper). When I try to see if any drivers are installed using terminal (ndiswrapper -i) the terminal freezes on me.
Previously I tried using the help doc for installing Trendnet wireless drivers, but I was met with no success. After my first try using the help doc it seemed that ndiswrapper was working correctly and the driver was installed, but when I tried to connect to my network my wireless was listed as "device not managed". If this helps at all the current state of my /etc/network/interfaces is: auto lo iface lo inet loopback

When I run iwconfig I get:

but when I try to install the driver using ndiswrapper -i I get the message: driver net8192su is already installed Right now my computer is not even reading that the wireless card is avaliable. When I left click on the network icon I can only see that I am on a wired network {ifupdown (wlan0)}. My computer is dual booted with Vista and the card works there, but for some reason I am having trouble with Ubuntu.
I've just installed Ubuntu (Koala) on an old (but worthy) Toshiba laptop. It's got a Sitecom WL-140 wireless card. (BTW I'm new to Ubuntu, but an old hand at Solaris). Can't get the card to work, although I think It's nearly there. nm-tool shows driver is p54pci. The activity light shows an orange light occasionally. State is disconnected. I'm not really sure whether I should be using the supplied driver (p54pci) or the Windows driver for this card and ndiswrapper. I've installed the Windows driver with ndiswrapper thinking this may fix it but no.
ndiswrapper -l says wlancig: driver installed and device (1260:3886) present.
I have a D-Link Air DWL-520 wireless card on my desktop computer. It runs well with Windows, but doesn't seem to work with Ubuntu. I am using Lucid Beta 2. I have tried googling, but have not come across any clear solutions on how to make it work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq AMD64 that has ubuntu 9.04 on one HD that works great. I've installed 10.04 on a separate HD and had problems installing it. I have 10.04 running now but I can't get my wireless card to work. During installation I skipped setting up the wireless network. Now when I boot into the 10.04 partition I cannot get the nm-applet to work. I can't get it onto the task bar and I don't see it anywhere else.
I checked to see what drivers are installed, and since I have no connection with that OS I can't update or DL drivers for it. I'm pretty sure that it is because I skipped setting it up during installation. What do I need to do to get the wireless working now? I checked other threads and none seem to pertain to my situation. Since I have to log into the 9.04 partition, I can't copy/paste outputs very easily.

just now installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Lenovo Thinkpad X41 it did connect to the wireless internet at the time of installation but failed to connect after the installation was complete and i restarted the computer. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to Maverick but now I cannot get my wireless card working. In Lucid it didn't work out of the box, but worked perfectly by wrapping the Windows driver with ndiswrapper.
I noticed when I installed Maverick that wireless is enabled in Network-Manager and it gives me the option to create a wireless network or connect to a hidden network but it's not discovering/showing any of the wireless networks in range! So it seems as though the card is being recognized but the driver isn't working fully...? I tried wrapping the windows drivers, but that didn't change the situation at all.

Ever since I upgraded to the new Ubuntu, I have been having problem with wireless. In the "Hardware Drivers" I come up with 2 drivers:
1) Boadcom B43 wireless driver
2) Broadcon STA wireless driver
I activated the first one, but latter noticed that the wireless was not working, so I tried installing the second and it returned this message:
