After click on install updates and entering password, a message says "Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s). Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages? Yes/No.
If I answer No, this message appears:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po....10.1_i386.deb
404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]
If Yes, it tries to download but immediately:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po....10.1_i386.deb

It has always installed the updates with no problems, until these 3 updates remain in pending installation status.
It's taken a lot of work, but I have figured out over thecourse of many many fresh installs over the past few days that the kernel updatefrom the update manager in ununtu is breaking my system. This is both for the -22 and -27 updates.Is anyone else having problems with these and/or is there a fix?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere was an xorg update that I did today (June 8) and when try to boot into runlevel 3, it stops when it gets to starting up sntp. I also saw that it said DHCP client not running. When I try again (push the power button) and allow it to do what it wants, everything seems to start up just fine. I'm asking about this because I need to re-install my NVIDIA graphics card driver. For the boot options, I've tried clearing the text (I don't remember what they are at the moment) and typing:

and when that failed, I've tried it as

nomodeset3
but still get stuck at the same spot. I've also tried it without clearing the text but still it gets stuck.
How can I get to runlevel 3 in order to re-install my graphics card driver? I cannot run my 3D software without it. Can I switch to runlevel 3 from the usual (normal GUI) screen? I can't remember the command. I'm running SuSE 11.4.
I've tried to use the GUI tool for update system in Fedora 10. It listed all of the available updates successfully, but it have not any response when i click the 'Update System' button~
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince applying a number of updates using the online update tool in Yast, the online update tool can no longer contact the software repositories which were configured in Yast.If i browse to the URL which is configured within the software repo config tool, I can see the updates & folders fine in Firefox.Zypper seems to do the same thing & just sits there if I do zypper update.I see a number of other people in this forum have had the same problems, any ideas as I couldn?t find a resolution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 9.10 and am bothered by the sometimes pretty long update progress. sometimes i wish to abort the update-manager, apt-get or synaptics because i need to go, but i think it might break anything. could you advice me how to do it safely, even if some cleaning up is required afterwards?I was just wondering because certainly there is a way to preserve the pre-update condition, e.g. when installing a new kernel. but my guess is, that the installation is postponed to restart then.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I run the update manager in XUbuntu (natty/11:04) it does not show its progress while installing the upgrades.
After clicking on "install updates" and authenticating, there used to be a popup window with a progress bar and an option to show "details" but these appear to have disappeared in the last few days.
I don't recall switching these features off and there are no settings to restore them, available within the GUI. Is there another way of restoring this functionality?
If not, is a reinstall the way to go? If so what package(s) need re-installing? And in-case it is a configuration script, what files in my home directory need deleting to ensure a clean reinstall.
I logged on to one of my servers and ran a yum update, while the update was in progress my SSH connection got disconnected.
I logged in through a new connection when connectivity was restored and looked at running processes. It looked like yum was hung so I killed it (big mistake and one I won't repeat).
Now, when I try and run yum, I get the following:

In OpenSuSE 11.2 YaST -> Online Update Configuration I can configure how often the system should check for updates (i.e. daily, weekly). Does this operate independently from the Online Update Applet(kupdateapplet)? The reason I ask is that the Applet doesn't always seem to work correctly. However, if the system will check for online updates automatically regardless of the Applet, perhaps this isn't an issue. If I can avoid messing with the Applet, that would be great.

Applet prompts to update the system, click Apply updates
Accept licence agreement for flash player update
The applet goes back to listing the available updates - ie. it doesn't run the update The workaround is to untick the flash player update, run the other updates and then do the flash player update by itself.
I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and when i try to check for updates in the update manager it says:

Yesterday i have installed F14 and then went to the comand line to update the system via yum update. It was about 860MB of updates in 430 packages. The strange thing is that only one package was a delta rpm and all other were normal rpm. Is Fedora giving up on presto or it needs some special configuration?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my laptop. The laptop has a single HDD with 2 partitions. Partition 1 has WindowsXP and partition 2 contains other data, among which the directory of the ubuntu installation. The partitions are formatted as NTFS. Ubuntu has been installed with wubi on the second partition. Ubuntu has been working fine for 2 days. Last night I updated the Ubuntu system and it required a restart. Needless to say, after the restart, grub wouldn't load. It just shows the shell.
I read the threads inside this forum and people usually manually select a kernel and boot up ubuntu, but when I do this, after I input all the commands I input "boot" and hit ENTER. The computer starts booting up until a point when it says ALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk does not exist and something about using selection #1 and exits to shell (Easy Shell or Easy Boot, I can't remember exactly what it says... Easy something anyway) I've read that this is possibly caused by a NTFS dirty tag... but I do not see how to fix this problem.
How can I make the security applet stop showing an update for firefox 3.5.9? I have a more recent version installed from mozilla repo: firefox 3.6. The mozilla repo already has a higher priority (95 instead of 99), so I don't know what to do.

I recently did a kernel update usingCode:yum -y updateAfter update while booting progress reaches till the end and it stops there, it doesn't progress. If I use earlier kernel for booting I do not have any issues.

What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.
Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.
I originally tried Ubuntu 9.10 via a windows installation through Wubi. I had a VERY complex problem with a "Kernal Panic" due to an update through update manager and my system would not run proficiently. I wanted to know if that bug was exclusive to Wubi installations or does it also exist with this method of installation. I'm not going to update ANYTHING until I know for sure.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Dell 2.53G machine from 10.3 to 11.2 (KDE desktop). Everything seemed fine for the first day. Then the whole desktop froze. No screen update, no keyboard, and, though you could see the mouse move, clicking didn't do anything. The only way out was to pull the plug.
After multiple attempts at fixing it failed, I repartitioned the disk and tried a "clean install". Everything worked for about 2 hours. The system is currently frozen. The harddrive is quiet. The only "3rd party app" was Adobe Flash, pulled from the Non-OSS repository.
i have running more than 50 servers with openSUSE 11.2 for a long time without any problems. After upgrading 30 server to 11.3 some of them are freeezing after one or two days. I can ping, but i cannot log in. At the console i can type in the user and the nothing happens, system has to reboot.
All servers are Hewlett Packard Proliant G4,G5,G6 with 32bit and 64bit. No errors or hints in the systemlog.
Recently i add a lot of repositories for new apps but do0ing a zypper up after that left left many things broken ,first the my system has added 2 more entries in grub menu namely, opensuse 11.3 desktop-2.6.34.7 and opensuse 11.3 desktop-2.6.34.7-(failsafe) why are these added and now when I simply boot opensuse11.3 from menu though it starts but has no sound and typical errors shown .
Firefox is broken. how could I reach a stable state now I have these repos only code...
I have problem with software update. As update is available Update manager pop ups and I start "install updates", every time update run and stop at java updates. The screen shot attached.
