OpenSUSE :: Kpackagekit Updates Refuses To Install Flash Player Update?
Jun 12, 2011
I've found the following irritating problem with the default update applet in 11.4 (the one available in 'Software Management' in the KDE system settings):
Applet prompts to update the system, click Apply updates
Accept licence agreement for flash player update
The applet goes back to listing the available updates - ie. it doesn't run the update The workaround is to untick the flash player update, run the other updates and then do the flash player update by itself.

I am trying to update Flash-player and yast2-core as prompted by today's update icon.
I am now faced with a loop that goes like this:
1) click on icon
2) window pops up, "2 packages selected"
3) click on apply, subwindow pops up
4) click on continue, "waiting for authentication"
5) after minutes of waiting, click on cancel, nothing happens
6) click on icon killing subwindow
7) now back to 2)
Aborting the process, starting at 1) again, same mess
Conclusions:
a) No idea what was going on
b) Use Yast instead of clicking update icon

I am having an issue with KPackageKit, actually 2 issues but one makes it unusable. The major issue is that when I go to apply the updates I get the following error message (at least here are the details of the message)
Code:
Download (curl) error for 'http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.4/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Couldn't resolve proxy 'HTTP_PROXY'
I do not run my connection through a proxy and my internet works correctly. This is on a laptop I upgraded using zypper from 11.3 to 11.4 (I did the same with a desktop which does not have this issue). zypper refresh successfully refreshes the repositories, and the various Yast repo tools all work correctly. Additionally after I am shown the updates and am prompted for root pw, the packages will no longer show up for a while, each time it tries to look for updates the message comes through but they will show up after a while again. The other issue I have is that it requests my pw multiple times, this also happens on my desktop that actually will update. I get prompted twice, they are immediate and back to back. This one is a little minor annoyance but there should be no reason that it needs to make this request multiple times.

My KPackageKit is not downloading any update, it shows updates, I click apply, I authenticate, then it asks me to accept an agreement, after which it returns to an empty KPackageKit (as if there were no updates). If I open it again, there are the possible updates again (naturally, since it didn't download anything).

Firefox refuses to recognize the upgrade--in existing user accounts only! I created a new account & Firefox picked the upgrade right up. I'm ready to reinstall Firefox or start with all new user accounts--but either option seems to be extreme overkill.
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Firefox 3.6.8
Adobe Flash Player 10.1 r82 (old accounts are stuck at 9.x)

You may know that there was a security release for Adobe Flash Plugin for Linux x86 but not for x86_64. There has been a development:
See : http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
It works fine here. I have a Multilib Slack 13.1 stable.

If I install flash player from yast or from "firefox plugins search", I only install version 10.0.*.*. Now I want to install version 10.1 beta. I downloaded package "flasplayer..." from adobe flash website. Then I extract it and run:
Code:
# nspluginwrapper -v -i ./libflashplayer.so
Install plugin ./libflashplayer.so
into /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so
Afterward, I restart firefox and firefox requires install flashplayer . In some tutorials I see " Create symlink plugins to..." after "Install plugin ./libflashplayer.so...". In my computer I can't see this. I use opensuse 11.2 64bit. I try to install flash player 10.1 beta because I can't upload to mediafire Site. How to install 10.1 beta to solve this problem.

when pdf files didn't load into firefox (problem still not solved), i tried to remove mozplugger, of which there were two instances in plug-ins. i first though flash-plugin was the culprit, so i removed it. but it wasn't. so i removed nsdiswrapper and then, i could remove both mozploggers (same version) i*still had icedtea, and itunes application detector, which i*found no way to remove since there is no file name associated with it in add-ons, plug-ins (rather weird, if you ask me).
so i reinstalled mosplogger, flash-plugin 32 bit and nsdiswrapper (i*don't remember in which order) and now not only pdf files don't load in firefox, or any viewer, but i can't watch flash even at videos, which is rather reliable flash-wise. i receive this error message:
you need to upgrade your adobe flash player to watch this video.
i*still have 2 mozplugger instances.
what's my next step? i*checked google for this error message and found nothing relevant.
p.s.: flash-plugin is, of course, the latest release:
flash-plugin-10.1.102.65-release.i386

I finally gave in and took the plunge - I upgraded from kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. I knew better but I did it anyway. I got a few fglrx-related error messages during upgrade, but it was too late to do anything. Here's the problem - I can't update or download any software using either Kpackagekit or apt-get. If I try I get an error message about unmet dependencies.

I'm trying to diagnose a weird problem ... maybe someone has an idea where to start. I'm having a problem with flash videos. The video part displays as if the fast-forward button is being held down; audio sounds correct.
I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.

The new Natty (K)ubuntu has come out, but I haven't gotten the upgrade notification that I should have gotten. I've tried upgrading via apt-get, synaptic, kpackagekit, and Ubuntu Update Manager, none of which see any sign of it.
I've asked about this in several forums but no one has been able to answer me. So I'll ask two different and more fundamental questions, which perhaps someone here can answer: What is the mechanism by which those update notifications are issued? And what programs are involved?

When I try to upload the photos to my gallery, the dpreview.com says: Adobe Flash required
In order to upload images you need Adobe Flash Player. You have either an older version or no version at all. You can get the latest version on. I downloaded the RPM from the Suse website: [URL].
Code:
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # rpm -i flash-player-10.0.32.18-3.1.1.i586.rpm
package flash-player-10.0.32.18-3.1.1.i586 is already installed
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # updatedb
/usr/bin/find: '/home/anisha/.gvfs': Permission denied
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls #
The problem persists.
Now I realize, perhaps they mean that no other flash player than adobe will work. So now downloaded the plugin from the Adobe website: [URL]
Code:
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # rpm -i flash-plugin-10.2.152.27-release.i386.rpm
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls # updatedb
/usr/bin/find: '/home/anisha/.gvfs': Permission denied
linux-uitj:/home/anisha/tarBalls #
The problem STILL persists.

i am running ubuntu 10.04 i installed ubuntu restricted extras, and i went on videos. although i can view the video, i can't click on pause, the volume controls, or seek through the video, or put it into fullscreen mode. i went into the software center and searched "adobe flash player", and it came up with adobe flash plugin 10. it doesn't have an "install" button on it, so i double-clicked it, and it said " sorry, 'adobe flash plugin 10' is not available for this type of computer (amd64)."

I did install Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit at my Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop. Well I did some installations via Ubuntu software center only, and I'm not that familiar with the terminal.
Hope you guys can help me with that. The first thing I need is the Flash Player to be able to visualize videos on Firefox.
I'm not shure if there is a bug related to video in this version of Ubuntu, if so I could try another one as I'm just starting to use Linux and Ubuntu and it wouldn't be a problem to restart it all if this could solve this and future problems. I've just downloaded a preview release for Flash Player with native suport for native Linux 64-bit at Adobe. it is called "Flash Player Square" and seems to be unstable, a Beta version.
