I have problem with software update. As update is available Update manager pop ups and I start "install updates", every time update run and stop at java updates. The screen shot attached.
View 1 RepliesI am currently using Debian Testing, managing my wireless connection with NetworkManager and the Gnome nm-applet. Both have just been updated: network-manager from 0.8.1-6+squeeze1 to 0.8.2-6 and network-manager-gnome from 0.8.1-2 to 0.8.2-4.On installation of the new packages, I have no problems. However, on a reboot, I can no-longer connect to any wireless connection. I am not prompted on start-up for the password to unlock the Gnome keyring and when I left-click on the nm-applet icon and then click on a network to connect to it, nothing happens.I do not think this is a driver or NetworkManager daemon problem. If I run "nmcli dev wifi" or left-click on the applet icon, NetworkManager seems to scan for wireless networks properly and returns a list including the one I wish to connect to.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!
After a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10-64bit I don't have Hardware Manager, Update Manager or Software Resources just to name a few.I tried sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade & everything is up to date.

I was doing a update via Synaptic Package Manager, after it is nearly finished i get that message: Processing triggers for python-central ... Nothing happend so i ctrl-c it and the packet manger shows me no other errors or something else, even all the packages who was marked for upgrade are now upgraded but what about that python message? Do i have to do some check ? or maybe even a repair or even worse re install the OS?

I am trying to update using Update Manager and I get this message: Failed to fetch "Failed to fetch [URL]..404 Not Found" My system is 64 days out of date now.
I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.
having had problems with getting grub2 to work on dual HDD setup...despite the most excellent advice on the forum i took the plunge and installed 10.10 from update manager within 10.04..... bingo fixed grub and now have dual boot again. but the update manager and synaptic package don't work because of libedata-cal1.2-6 file that remains..following other advice on the forum Advice gratefully received, how can i force an unistall of this package

After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

If any one is interested, the new Java version 6.21 is out. I followed the instructions in my sig. and changed where it mentions ver 20 to 21 (jre-6u21-linux-x64.bin) 64 bit instructions are on the right side of the page and 32 bit instructions are on the left.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.
Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.
