Aug 14, 2010It has been about a month since I installed openSUSE 11.3 (64bit, Gnome), and overall it is better than 11.2, but I have had some stability issues that I did not have with 11.2.
1. openSUSE 11.3 crashes very often when I change desktop background. I haven't experiment with it but it happens with downloaded images.
2. Changing monitor environment makes openSUSE to freeze. Fresh boot with external monitors connected usually works, but plugging & unplugging monitors usually makes openSUSE freezing. (I have to force power down)
3. Suspend makes openSUSE freeze a lot. Usually one suspension works, if I re-suspend it, it usually freezes.
I was wondering if these are common with 11.3 or I'm the only one who is having this.

Jan 4, 2011After installing gnome-color-chooser for Ubuntu 10.10, I followed all the steps to enable transparent gnome menu. When I logged out and logged back into my user, the gnome panel menu was transparent as It should be however, the desktop background changed color and I cannot change the desktop by right clicking the desktop. If I do right click and try to, the entire desktop and all programs freeze. The mouse works but that is it. Whenever I try to open gnome-color-chooser, I get this error message : ERROR Could not open or create file /home/User/.gtkrc-2.0-gnome-color-chooser. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both gnome color chooser and gnome panel with no luck.

Jun 6, 2010It takes about 30 seconds for the desktop to 'fully load'. When I login I see my background, but nothing else. Then you wait 30 seconds and you see the panels appear. Is there any way to fix this lag, and make it an instant load? Cause really it should not take that long to load a panel with not really anything on it.

Apr 3, 2011I have spent the most part of 5 hours trying to fix this issue. For some reason I cannot change the background image to any of mt .jpg wallpaper files (and .png files). I've tried using the Ubuntu-Tweak application, but I end up getting a purple screen (default) or a black screen (default). So then I tried using the terminal method by making the Appearance window appear when I would log out. That works, except when I go to use my background image, it shows as a question mark for the image preview, and the icon for the file is a gray box. All while doing this my background images that I tested are all in the /usr/share/backgrounds location. Please help! I really want to get rid of the default images and use my images... :/ My desktop/screen in 1440x900, and most my background images are around that size. They work with my regular desktop for my account.

Oct 6, 2009I just upgraded a F9 to F11 using the network install. After the successful install message, I rebooted to find the boot stuck on a grub prompt. After determining that somehow grub had not been installed properly, I used the rescue mode to re-install grub. When I then rebooted, I saw a blank (black) screen during the rhgb sequence, with just the multicolor progress bar moving from left to right. As the bar reached the right side, the standard F11 login screen appeared. The system is an old Omnibook 8000 laptop. Here is my grub.conf

Aug 8, 2010I've installed Fedora 13 from DVD and selected some extra features (php, mySQL). After the installation and user creation, I rebooted and logged in - clean clean desktop. No menu, no panel nothing. But I can run some commands (like firefox) from ALT+F2. It looks as if the commands works fine, but no menu.
I've re-installed my whole system.... same thing after logging in. I can see the bottom panel before log in.
Whatever I should do, I can only through command line as I'm able (from ALT+F2) to open a terminal. I suspect my resolution or something.
I'm working from a Acer laptop who's monitor is broken, connected a Samsung SyncMaster 943nwx to it. Its a 17" wide monitor.

Sep 5, 2011make my own home server to play with. While reading a guide I found out about a package of software called Amahi. Very easy and yet so powerful says the site. That's what I need! I looks cool and indeed pretty easy. I already start smiling because I have this old Ubuntu 11.04 computer here. Then I see that Amahi runs best on Fedora 14 and that the support for Ubuntu is still in Alpha phase. No problem, let's install F14 then. I put everything right in the BIOS. I downloaded the DVD iso image, burned it and put it in my drive. Nothing happens, soon I realise that drive only accepts CD's. I quickly change it with a CD/DVD drive of another computer, but still nothing happens. Then I read about this LiveUSB thing. I do everything needed and change boot sequence to Removable. It still keeps booting Ubuntu on Hard Disk 0. My last resort: Fedora Live i686 iso on a CD. Things go as expected. What am I doing wrong? I just want to see that (probably) blue background of Fedora booting instead of that purple one of Ubuntu.

Jan 27, 2010F12 current updates. The Gnome Desktop Background images are compressed in the horizontal axis enough to make a cessna 182 look like a disney cartoon. I am running 1280X1084 75 hertz update rate. The Gnome Image Viewer gives a correct image. The image I am running had to be stretched to fill the screen. I suspect the stretching algorithm is at fault. Is this a bug that need reporting?

When I go to the settings folder, it shows the image that it previously was, but i have to change either the "zoom" or "tile" settings, or just change the image in order for it to reappear. I really have no idea why this happens, and certainly does not happen with every reboot. If it helps, I am using Intel Ironlake Mobile.
