Ubuntu :: File Manager - Cant Get To Display A Background Picture On The Desktop

Jul 13, 2010

I just installed 9.10, and the "File Manager" seems to not be working. I cant get ubuntu to display a background picture on the desktop, and anything I put on the desktop is not selectable. If I try to access anything under the "Places" tab, it tries to open a window, which read "opening whatever" but nothing happens. I can access files via terminal just fine.

Debian Installation :: Window Manager Produces No Background Picture

Jan 14, 2015

I did remake my minimal installation. My window manager produces no background picture else I did add someone. So i will do it using xorg-xli. I did find the (in other cases usual) xinitrc as /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc but in only refers to an other script

and the other script (/etc/X11/Xsession) does not include some usuable steps to include easily supplementary starting commands.

Where is to do that in Debian SID actually?

How do I get it to display a different desktop background for each desktop? I'm sure I saw this option somewhere, but I can't find it again.

Secondly, it defaults with 4 desktops in a 2X2 grid layout. I changed it to 2, then back to 4 and now it has 4 desktops in a linear layout (1x4). How can I change it back to 2X2?

I see in the desktop wallpaper program that there are certain photos that are in clusters (like you can click the photo and the next photo will come up and so forth). If I set my desktop to this cluster of sorts will it show me the photos sequentially or will it just stick to the first one. If not, is there a way to show this cluster sequentially in my background where it would change say, every minute or so?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: "Basic" But Flexible Graphics Viewer - IrfanView / MS Office Picture Manager?

Sep 1, 2010

I am new to Ubuntu. Overall, I really like it. However, I am having trouble finding a replacement for Windows IrfanView and MS Office Picture Manager. The idea is to simply browse, delete, resize, and rotate photos. F-Spot does OK in the editing, but I cannot delete photos as I browse through them. Also, I cannot seem to be able to find info on a viewer that will allow me to resize a group of selected photos similar to what can be done in MS Office Picture Manager (part of MS Office 2003). GIMP is great for one photo at a time...unless I am missing some of its batch functionality.

Any advice is appreciated. I mainly need a flexible tool for quickly going through photo collections, deleting, resizing, rotating, and perhaps some meta data editing (for categorizing / tagging photos).
