On SuSE 10.0 I used to have an app simply called, "Dictionary" and it was placed in the Office > Database section of the kicker menu. I can't seem to find that app anywhere for OpenSUSE 11.2. Did they stop supporting/making it?

Recently a x-win app reported that it suspects a man in the middle attack (MiMA), so I want to tighten this up, but it seems to me if there is a MiM, then the initial key exchange is vulnerable to a substitution. This is on solaris, but since its a basic concept I'm ot getting, it shouldnt matter,
Here's the gist of what I read:
- create users key pair,
- enable host authentication (ssh_config file on client and sshd_config file on remote host)
- start an ssh session and accept the remote hosts key (and I assume the remote host will take client users key and store some where)
Questions:
1. What's to stop the MIM from making a substitution of keys during the initial exchange?? Shouldn't the keys be initially transfered in a more secure fashion??
2. Does the server just accept new keys from any existing user who want to create an ssh session? So if some one knows a username and password (such as the owner of an application they know is running) couldn't they just create their own keypair and have the server accept them?
Is the radeon open source driver 6.13 supporting Xorg 6.5 and Mesa 7.8.1?

Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to find files containing the "$" char (ascii 0x24). 'Grep -irl $ *' would output the names of every file in path *, of course, because it means end of line (EOL). So giving grep the string "$" won't do. So I tried 'grep -irl $ *'. But this doesn't work either and I do not understand why. Am I not escaping the dollar sign? grep should interpret it literally. Neither 'grep -irl "$" *' will work. Fortunately, there's LQ, besides grep's man page.

I have a Toshiba laptop and Toshiba netbook (both Intel chipsets). Laptop - Squeeze install gave me the 2.6.32 kernel and sound only worked thru headphones but not the speakers. Later on, I compiled kernel 2.6.36.1 (and just imported .config from original kernel) and sound WORKED perfectly. I had a few other errors ("address space collision" / PM error) so recently I compiled kernel 2.6.38, which solved other hardware issues but sound is back to original problem (works thru headphones but not thru speakers). I even installed the "backports" kernel (2.6.38.4) and it didn't make a difference.
Netbook - Did exact same things as above but no matter what, the sound never worked on it... same issue (sound in headphones.. no sound in speakers) So, how do I "reverse-engineer" the laptop working sound install with kernel 3.6.36.1 and make it work with later kernel (nothing... and I've tried about 30+ thread suggestions makes the sound cards work properly.. other than kernel 2.6.36.1)

I cannot find any other application managers running in system monitor. Synaptic and update manager are both off at this point.
I'm in a dual boot with xp. Something tells me I should have bought that USR modem with the native Linux driver rather than the cheaper Aopen unit
I will be upgrading to Lucid in the coming weeks but would like to resolve this beforehand if possible.

I have a 802.11a-WLAN running. Due to regulatory restrictions, I am to do some dynamic frequency selection(DFS) on certain channels available in the 802.11a-band. This is called 802.11h. I am seraching for a solution reagarding 802.11h-functionality. I do know, there is a branch within madwifi called madwifi-dfs which was developed mainly by Bennoit Papillaut and Pavel Roskin.
The problem with this driver is, that it doesn't work reliable. If I simply start a network scan on my Lenovo-machine, the DFS-driver running on the embedded board recognizes a radar signal and switches the channel dirctly. So my question is - is there any driver available supporting 802.11h? I do not care about the chipset manufacturer or anything else. All I need is a working DFS-capable driver.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP DC 6000 small form factor which has not taken the GUI after installing the debian lenny version 5.07 on it. I have tried installing 5.01-5.07. None of the Debian series do have the supported driver for the on board graphics card for HP box it seems. I can take the terminal and can see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file which does not have much alterations form the default one which can make the driver been taken by it. Could some body help with the hp driver for Debian for the respective graphics card or could some body me with the content of xorg.xonf file.

The images are saved on my hdd as colour .png files, i won't be using any effects on them but I will be working with pixels a lot, so direct access to them would really be great.So I was curious if there's a lib that provides direct access to individual pixels and pretty much nothing else (libpng, devIL or QImage from qt are all good but each has it's downfalls).

What I have works for Parallels in which a new VM defaults to emulate an IDE hard disk. It does not work for VMware Workstation which defaults to emulate a SCSI disk.

Last week I installed suse 11.3. Most of the time it runs fine, but sometimes my laptop just hangs. Mostly I'm just browsing the internet using firefox. For example when I just installed opensuse, and I tried to maximize the terminal window it would hang and not recover. I'm not sure what is causing it. When it hangs I also can't move the mouse pointer, or open the system activity window. I'm not sure I have the minimum specs for kde though, but I can run kde without any problems, it's fast, it reacts fast. At first I thought maybe the amount of ram 512 was not enough so I turned off all the kde effects, but it still seems to crash once in while. I tried checking .xsession-errors to see if I could find something, and I found this

I started with a bootable Windows 7 Upgrade DVD. I tested the DVD by booting from DVD in a physical drive. The system put up a "press any key to install from CD/DVD" and it worked. Now, I attempted to make a bootable ISO for VirtualBox... To make the ISO, I used this:

which I've read will clone the DVD and its boot ability? Is this correct? When I start VirtualBox, version 4.0.8 r71778, I get the "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted." The IDE Primary Master (CD/DVD) is set to see windows7.iso, so I suspect it sees the ISO, only it doesn't appear to be bootable. SATA Port 0 is set to Windows 7.vdi. Am I missing a step somewhere? The system is running openSUSE 11.4.

The simplest way the occurs to me to do this is to virtualize the OS on it. So i installed hypervisor from yast, but (i think) it requires an image of the OS to virtualize it, not some partitions on a hard drive. Is there an easy way around this?
Each time after boot up from hibernation I see notification that "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode". I tried to solve the problem as usual but this time I can not resolve it.I haven't expected this problem on new boot or restart. My system config. are Intel 945 mother board, 512 DDR2 RAM, 80GB IDE hard disk, P4 3GHz processor. When i try to install in graphics mode after disk checking i.e while anaconda is loading my monitor automatically turned off. So I recognized that problem with some driver.
