OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Video Players Supporting Vaapi/xvba For ATI Cards?
Jan 7, 2011
I've seen several threads in Ubuntu regarding implementing vaapi/xvba enabled media players for ATI GPU rendering. Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.
I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?
I installed VLC on my openSUSE. After Mplayer and SMplayer. When I try to play movie VLC is closing. Mplayer freezing. SMplayer freezing and no sound...
I like SuSE, I even got certified as admin of it but i'm going crazy every time when i want to watch some video. It's more easy to install and maintain some services then make suse play video. I'm going crazy when every player says to me that it doesn't contain any codecs. I heard i'ts all about licensing.. So, why doesn't Ubuntu havn't any problem to play my mp4 and other video formats just from the box?My case is regular.. No way to play mp4 in totem, banshee, xine no h264 decoder.
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 dual booted with XP on a laptop. Whenever I try to play any video files, even just bog standard avi files, the media player just shuts down and disappears. This has happened with the movie player that comes with the OS as well as VLC. I also tried out Dragon Player and the files seem to load up and when played the timeline slider just skips across to the end in about 5 seconds but no picture is shown during this time. The codecs all appear to be installed fine even though I know that VLC doesn't require them. My video card is ATI and I know that it works fine as these files play alright when booted up into XP, Hi-Def included.
i am using ubuntu 10.10. Video players are not working properly i mean color spectrum is not proper, i uninstallied Gstreamer plugins and again reinstalled but no use.
all HD video lags. Slightly, but constantly. You can watch movies, but it's annoying.
My PC - intel i3, integrated 4500 vga and 4GB RAM, Ubuntu 11.04 64bit. CPU usage is around 30-70% and disk load is low.
Typical performance tweaks like "skip loops - all" and read buffer size doesn't affect current condition. In Ubuntu 10.10 everything worked flawlessly.
PS. whether 4500 gpu acceleration should work in Ubuntu 11.04 by default? I can't set it up...
When i got to a site such as You Tube of South Park Studios the vidio playes fine but the pause, play , fullscreen ect... Buttons dont work unless it click on them multiple times!
I am a new user to opensuse, coming from ubuntu. I have a usb to vga external video card that allows me to plug in an external monitor to a usb port.Tritton SEE2 UV150 Looking around there is a deb file available for ubuntu and the sources are on the suse build service. Though it does not say its available for suse. So im wondering if anyone else has used one of these devices and/or knows how I can get it to work. The pages i have found related are here:
I'm about to start a new build for my primary machine at home. The plan is to load up a server/workstation motherboard (ASUS KGPE-D16) with two 8-core chip, as much RAM as it will take (32GB) and to put two graphics cards in it. One to power my main 24" monitor (ideally via HDMI) and the other card to power two screens, one 24" on each left and right side via DVI (unless I can find a dual-HDMI card that meets my needs).
Does that make sense? Here's my question for this awesome group of intelligent individuals: What video card model should I choose? Obviously, I'd like them to match so I can SLI / CrossFire if I really want to, but what setup should I plan on to have a good experience managing multiple displays on multiple video cards?
Oh, and budget is probably up to about $300 per card, maybe a little more if it makes a lot of sense.I'm not alone in having tons of problems with trying to get multi monitor support in the last few versions of Ubuntu, and honestly it's the only reason why I'm still running Windows7: the multi monitor support is just SO DAMNED easy! I shouldn't have to spend this much energy thinking about video card model- it should just work, shouldn't it?
I would like to know the best way to swap out video cards from ati to nvidia. For example. In windows, I would uninstall the driver, switch the cards, boot into a low VGA windows session and install the new drivers, reboot done.
In sues, I'm wondering if I uninstall the drivers, after rebooting I might loose my Gnome desktop. And I guess at that point I'd be looking at a blinking cursor?
I recently upgraded to Lucid from Karmic and shortly before the release upgraded from a geforce 8400gs to my geforce GT240 and noticed no difference on Karmic. I read somewhere that the capability of video cards would be applied further with Lucid. Since installing Lucid I've noticed a severely reduced sharpness and severely increased contrast, changing the contrast in X server has no effect. My hardware driver is activated but not in use and no online fix I've attempted has been successful in resolving the issue. Is it possible to use a gt240 on lucid with no hassle and is there any way I can maximize my video cards capabilities?
I have a Nvidia graphics card, and an onboard card. I wanted to use both concurrently. At first I was only getting signal from the Nvidia one, but I want both. I changed the settings in my BIOS to Onboard, but it is now only coming from my onboard one. I then installed the Nvidia drivers from Additional Drivers, and then boot hung on checking battery state. I had to remove info from xorg.conf just to boot.
I've got the multimedia stuff setup as here: Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE ForumsI can play .wma files with VLC or with mplayer without any problems. However trying to play them with banshee it doesn't work and it pops up a dialog asking whether I want to search for a suitable codec (which also doesn't work).
but I still get sound upon testing my audio card as well as when using flash in a browser (....., etc).[URL].. There's my alsa information. Output of rpm -qa '*alsa*'
I'm running openSUSE 11.2 on KDE, although the problem persists on other desktops. I followed the instructions on SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE, as well. If anyone needs any other information, please let me know. It worked before, I don't know what caused it to stop working.
As well, I've tried to install the restricted formats, but even when my audio did work, it wouldn't play them. I followed the instructions specific to my version on the restricted formats guide.
Anybody can point me the steps to successful install VAAPI under Ubuntu? Last week I tried several times diferent drivers, libs, packages and nothing work.
Actually I'm using Ubuntu Lucid under Inter C2D 3.0Ghz, with ATI Radeon HD-3870 graphics card.I already installed ATI Drivers (Catalyst) latest version (11).
What exactly I need to install? Catalysthacks [URL].. can solve my problems?
There is no sound when I play a movie. The only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine. Amarok plays MP3 just fine. All the rest does not. Not vlc, (s)mplayer. An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter. I have installed all restricted codecs but I had to doe it 2 times, the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation what's interrupted.
I downloaded the mplayer essential codecs pack and extracted in directories mentioned.I even compiled mplayer and it can play now almost all the files. But I am having a problem. The problem is that other multimedia players dont play even a single file.I tried with xine, totem, kaffiene and every bundled player.
Each time after boot up from hibernation I see notification that "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode". I tried to solve the problem as usual but this time I can not resolve it.I haven't expected this problem on new boot or restart. I suppose that the problem is in incorrect video driver or something else.Could you please share your experience how to resolve my problem? How can I upgrade video driver for GMA 3150 supporting?
I want to manage music on a mobile phone. It's an MP3/MP4 player SmartPhone iPhone clone from this (de-spammed) address: xxxx: [URL] I want an app that can be used on both windows and Linux computers and that is as good as iTunes for managing media. What do you recommend?
In suse 11.2 when play a video file the media players eats up to 50% cpu and pulseaudio another 18-20% with compiz turn on, when i turn the compiz off media player goes down to 7-8 % and pulseaudio 1-2%. With audio files the picture is different - 2-3 % sometimes 7% pulseaudio and there is not matter if compiz is turned off or on.Is there some kind of configuration should be done ?
24 hours ago kaffeine, vlc, smplayer and mplayer were all functional. Now after a software update only smplayer is functional. Kaffeine has been my favorite player since version 0.97 but recently only vlc would play all formats of videos so I got used to it. All packages have been installed from packman. Kaffeine now crashes with...
socket(): Address family not supported by protocol ion@apollo:~> 1 errors in postprocess string "hb:a,vb:a,dr:a" [mpeg4 @ 0x874d700] Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected KCrash: Application 'kaffeine-xbu' crashing... And mplayer crashes as well with a report that's too long to post. Well I can live without mplayer. What am I doing wrong. Accepting updates perhaps?
I am trying to get mplayer-vaapi working on my system, so I can watch 1080p videos with hardware acceleration (and to remove the tear effect).
Anyway I am having trouble getting VA Api to work correctly. I have extensively google-ed around, and I cannot find a way to fix this problem.
Here is the output for vainfo (the error from vainfo is the same as mplayer-vaapi):
Code: libva: libva version 0.31.1-sds1 Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
[Code].....
but I have found that:
1. The Xlib error shouldn't matter 2. I do have an fglrx_drv_video.so file in /usr/lib/va/drivers 3. I have installed the latest libva amd64 deb package 4. I have installed the latest xvba amd64 deb package
I am running Lucid on 2.6.34-020634-generic kernel (with a patched fglrx module). I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series card.
Also before I found the deb package for libva I followed this tutorial to compile it (some things had to be tweaked for it to compile successfully) [URL]. But I did reinstall libva when I found the .deb package.
I am trying to resolve an ongoing fight involving /dev/video node assignment between 2 TV Tuner cards and a USB video camera.
Each time I reboot the three devices seem to shuffle their /dev/video assignment. i.e. what was /dev/video0 (USB camera) after a reboot magically becomes /dev/video1.
This causes all kinds of grief between my MythBackend and ZoneMinder who expect the devices to have static assignments.
how to best solve this? I did a brief search and one solution appears to be to statically assign the devices.
