What is the first Matlab release that fully supports 64-bit? Is it 2010a? I've got 64-bit installations of Linux and Mac OS X, and want to make sure I install a copy of Matlab that takes full advantage of 64-bit and the resulting larger memory support.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to run matlab 7.7 (R2008b) on my ubuntu 9.10 distribution..the thing is that I am totally new with both matlab and linux and I get the following error message from matlab when I try to run an example mex-function:

I had gcc-4.4 as default on my pc, so after this error I downloaded an older version (gcc-4.1) and removed with rm the symbolic link in /usr/bin pointing to gcc-4.4 and created a new one pointing to gcc-4.1. Now when I type gcc -v in the terminal it says that gcc is in the packages gcc and pentium-builder, to do an apt-get install. I tried that but than it says that gcc-4.1 is already the newest version. It seems that I have multiple versions of gcc installed but neither the terminal nor matlab can find them.
I recently shifted from windows to Linux(Ubuntu). I need to install Matlab now. I have a windows version matlab software. How to install it in Ubuntu. Can install it using Wine?

Currently, it has a Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz single-core, 1 GB RAM, 110 GB hard drive, Intel (GMA) 852GM 32 MB shared video. I was planning to install red hat on it but don't seem to have any easy way of download the iso so I going with fedora 14 URL...Can some one please tell my if I'm heading in the right direction. If someone installed linux of this laptop and had any problems, please tell me about them.

I've checked and the output is right, There is no file of that name but there is neither a folder of that name.

I'm looking if it is possible to change the whole Linux install without having to boot up using a live-cd.
The purpose is to remotely log on to a machine using SSH or other to replace the complete installation, without loosing network setup so I don't loose contact with it. Perhaps loading the live-cd while linux is already running?

I have a dell inspirionB130 and I installed mandriva dual boot with windows 7.. However I was not able to connect to a wireless network, but yet I could when i switched back to windows 7. Ive also just been wanting to try other versions of Linux to see which one I would prefer.. But Im not really sure on how to uninstall Linux or replace it with different version.. View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04. on boot up I sometimes get only the purple screen freeze and sometimes I actually get to the grub menu. I select the generic kernel and get the black screen freeze. same if I do the recovery mode. but if I get lucky on a reboot and can get the grub menu up again, I select previous linux version and then select 2.6.35 generic and it will boot into 11.04 with Unity. So, how can I get this thing to boot normal with the correct kernel version? I am fairly new to this linux world and don't want to have to go back to windows if I can help it.

startx /usr/bin/startkdeBut using it disables sound in KDE (Sound is working fine in GNOME). It doesn't sound for anything like login sound, totem, mplayer or any other playerBut when I press Alt+Ctrl+F1 to change to virtual console, the playback resumes from where it was in time and when coming back Alt+Ctrl+F7 and the time in totem (or any other player) doesn't move. While log out also it doesn't play logout sound and doesn't logout, so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 so that logout sound play then it exits.When starting KDE by kdm or gdm, the sound works normally. But I don't want to login again using kdm or gdm and not to use root user to start kdm or gdm.I don't know what is the difference between when KDE is started by startx or by kdm/gdm where the same user login in kdm/gdm as that for startx

I am an openSuSE user for many years. My current installation is openSuSE 11.2. However, my first was SuSE 6.4 and I have been _constantly_ upgrading since then until reaching the current openSuSE 11.2. The technical issue I have been facing lately is with the kernel version of my current system: although it should be 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop, as this is the one I have chosen via the online update mechanism and the yast2 system boot-loader procedure, grub shows it as preselected, the boot procedure in the end greets me mentioning this very kernel version, _but_ when I issue the command: uname -a in a command prompt, I am informed of using linux kernel version: 2.6.18.2-34-default #1 SMP PREEMPT
I am really quite puzzled, since I _cannot_ find any such vmlinuz file under /boot/ ! Could it be that my system properly runs with the expected kernel version, but uname mistakes it with a different one? Is there a way to determine the actual version of the linux kernel that my system currently runs with? If it's a problem with uname, have you got any suggestions that could potentially shed some light towards the origin/cause of the reported issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a .swf file that I was going to play, but when I try to open it, totem (which apparently is my .swf program) says "GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error." Now since I know a little bit about linux, I opened up a terminal and redirected the stderr and stdout to a file called "error". Then I read the file and it said:

So then I interpreted that as meaning that there was a library called "gstffmpegdemux.c" that needed replacing. So I tried using synaptic to replace. Then Synaptic wouldn't let me get the package, Though I could see it existed (I would put up a screenshot, but for some reason it won't let me upload) then I tried aptitude, which claims it doesn't exist, and then apt-get which also claims that it doesn't exist.
A friend of mine has a Dell XPS1530 lappy that has a broadcom bcm4328 wireless adapter. I tried installing kismet on it so I can scan for wireless network in range. I configured it with the source driver as bcm43xx in kismet.conf and complained that the driver didn't support monitor mode. It uses the proprietary 'wl' kernel module to operate but kismet can't use the 'wl' module and it says the same error. I tried unloding the wl and b44 modules and loding the b43 driver but then the adapter stoped working. I searched on the net a bit and found out that kisment doesn't work with the prorpietary drivers for that card.

I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.

I'm trying to ensure an app starts on boot up but after MySQL has been started. I can't however locate where MySQL is being started. If I do a chkconfig, it says MySQL is off, yet I can readily access my databases with phpmyadmin.If I look at my boot log, I can see it says MySQL Server is started, right after Apache2 is started.In my rc5.d directory, I only see a symbolic link for Apache2 but nothing for MySQL. The startup script for MySQL appears in /etc/init.d.rc.local has got nothing in it but comments. So it appears to me like it's being run on startup, but not as a service. But I have next to no knowledge of Linux so don't put too much belief in that.I would have originally installed MySQL via apt-get.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that my fan will keep running quite quickly once started. It will keep running till reboot independently of CPU usage and temperature. To check the temperature I installed lm-sensors. Output of temperature related commands and kernel version are below. Shouldnt they all give the temperature? My machine is a Toshiba Satellite pro L300. Eg. at the moment my fan is running quite quickly although CPU usage is 3-4% and the temperature according to lm-sensors is approximately 40-45 degrees Celcius.
