I recently installed 10.10 Maverick on a lenovo S12, and I've been having problems with the wireless connection. First I installed the Broadcom B43 driver. This driver seems to work well except upon resume, I'm no longer connected, and wireless is disabled, and the 'enable wireless' is grayed out and I can't seem to find a way to enable it besides a restart.
I tried what is suggested in this post: [url]
Namely:
Code:
Put:
Code:
This doesn't seem to have any effect
I also tried the Broadcom STA driver. This was only better in that after resuming it tried to reconnect, but never managed to.

I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 with disabled WLAN (otherwise the installation process didn't start). Now the system boots only in Safe Mode with enabled WLAN card (when the WLAN card is disabled it also boots in normal mode though). But even if I try to configure the WLAN card in Safe Mode, the system doesn't boot next time (in Safe Mode) until I add "brokenmodules=ssb" parameter. As I understand after reading this forum I should install a firmware/driver, but there is no install_bcm43xx_firmware script in /usr/sbin directory.

I have installed b43 with the install script and I can see all wireless networks fine, but NetworkManager just keeps asking me for the WPA passphrase, despite it being correct. I tried disabling WPA on the router, but then the connection hangs at "Configuring interface" instad. I also tried with ifup, but I'm not sure I configured everything correctly. I don't get any smarter from the NetworkManager logs, maybe someone else can decipher them? tail -50 when connection doesn't work:
Code:

I have been upgrading (upgrade from 11.3 then fresh install to 11.4) and as usual with Broadcom I have problems. On 11,3 I used the Pacman STA and was working fine. for 11.4, I suppose that my BCM4312 will be supported after installing the b43 driver. It actually woks, few seconds (but never had time to verify) Some background

(I use the kwallet, but that should be out of scope) .. Basically it always fails..

I have two usb wlan cards. In 11.2 whenever i start connection with the second one (wlan1) via knetworkmanager, the latter also starts a connection using the first one , leading to wlan problems,
In 11.1 i had no such problems because i could select the one to be used in knetworkmanager, and only that one was used by knetworkmanager.my current solution is to
su
ifdown wlan0
logout
this shuts down the first card but i have to do this manually after every restart. one thing: don't come with "deactivate in bios" - i knoe this but playing around in bios everytime i switch between windows and linux is no option. So how can i prohibit permanently that knetworkmanager uses the first one (wlan0)? putting in some place of suseconfigs a rmmod <driver>? where? /etc/sysconfig ??

I have to use ndiswrapper to get my wireless card to work (Cheap D-link usb wireless). I have never had a problem in ubuntu releases with getting it up and going, but in Fedora and now Opensuse I am struggling. I have everything setup with no errors. Ndiswrapper lists my drivers as installed and my hardware present. lsusb also has it listed. but when I modprobe ndiswrapper, I am getting no errors, but I am also not getting wlan0 to show when using iwconfig. I also noticed when modprobed the wireless card's light isn't coming on like ubuntu.

I've just a had laptop meltdown which resulted in the acquisition of a replacement (HP635) sporting a realtek wireless NIC. Found the drivers and installed them and all is well. HOWEVER, the card is not activated on wake from sleep mode. This is kind of astounding to me. Every crappy windows version that I've used can handle this situation. Many searches, however have failed to yield any help. After every resume from sleep mode I have to run ifup to start wlan0. Surely this is not the only way it can be? I have to assume that I'm not getting something simple, and someone here can point out my failing. or if you can just sympathize. running 11.4 here using the realtek 8192 driver set to start at boot time. Though none of the other settings have had any effect on this problem.

I have configured a wireless pcmcia card using ndiswrapper. I'm sure that works, as with the command "iwlist wlan0 scan" gives me back
the list of detected wireless networks. At this point I was wondering: is there a way to detect the new interface (wlan0) with network manager? Even after enabling the wifi card the network manager gnome applet always finds only eth0.

This is probably the 1 millionth post about WIFI issues. I have tried many sources on the internet but cant get my wireless to work. I have been using another version of linux for long time. But recent edition of that particular linux does not support my wifi any more. Just recently i have tried SuSE and almost fell in love with it. The only problem, WIFI.
I got a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi stick which uses RT2800USB native driver. I installed SuSE from the scratch and it found the wifi stick installed the drivers. My only problem is it does not scan for wireless networks. I haev two wifi networks around here. I can connect to them with windows computer with the same wifi stick.
I have tried iwconfig iwlist ifup but i am stuck exactly what to do.
I get the following messages:
It seems to me i am sooo close.

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.
Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:
1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.
2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).
3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

I am using OpenSuse 11.4(32 bit) on my Lenovo B460 laptop, and as the title points, am unable to use wireless on it. The 'enable wireless' option from icon menu is not greyed out, however clicking it does nothing, it remains disabled.
lspci -vv shows:
"04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Broadcom Corporation Device 0510

so it seems that opensuse knows my hardware but networkmanager doesn't! I have all broadcom packages installed as well as kernel-firmware installed.

When I run the "lsmod" command, This comes up:

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that has a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card installed. I do not have access to a wired connection to the web so any thing I have to install is a download on my windows machine and then transfer that to the debian machine. I just finished installing Debian Squeeze but can not get my wireless card to scan for any networks. I found a tutorial at [URL] and followed the steps there. Finding all the dependances and installing them one by one (took me all day). My wireless card still will not scan for networks. After doing a 'sudo ifconfig eth1 up' it still will not scan for networks.
Output from ifconfig:
raygo75@RayGo-2:~$ sudo ifconfig

How do I get around this? It wants to get something from [URL] and I do not have internet access. It looks to me like it just wants to download the wl dirver, again, which I have done in the previous instructions I found. I am a retired UNIX (hp-unix) administrator so I know my way around the system.
