I had Karmic a while back, but i got rid of it becasue of my Bcm4312 Wireless Card would not recognize the STA driver, or bcm43xx.In that time i learned a bit of command line stuff. anyways now that I have my internet working, I was just wondering What I could do with ubuntu. I am interested in the command line and Programming. Where could I learn more about the 2 subjects?
My wireless internet works fine on Windows but not on Ubuntu 10.10 From researching the problem, the best advice I have found was to install ndiswrapper, locate the .inf file and install it through that. I have done so and that seems to have done nothing. Then I heard that you were supposed to run the command:
Code:
modprobe ndiswrapper
All that did was give me an error message about how that action was prohibited (or some such). I'm wondering if this is possible to fix on Ubuntu or if I will have to find something else. Also, the wireless driver I am trying to use is bcmwl6 which funnily enough seemed to have a package on the boot cd to install it.
That package didn't work and just gave me and error message telling me there was a programming error in it. I'm sorry I wasn't particularly detailed with the messages I was getting, this is because I am currently on Windows and finding those again would mean rebooting and losing this post. I can get them though if they are particularly needed. I know this seems to be a commonish problem but I haven't found a solution (yet) that has worked for me.
I have an HP laptop with a wireless connection to my BT router. This works fine, but when I switch to ubuntu I cannot get on line it simply does not recognize the the connection.A friend suggested disabling the internal card and using a usb dongle this works fine on windows but again is not recognized by ubuntu.I do have an Ethernet cable connection which is fine in the office but no good when elsewhere in the house. Any one with experience of this problem?
I recently purchased an Acer eMachines E525 laptop, and currently have it dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora 12 x86_64 with the 2.6.31.5-127 kernel. I've been completely unable to get the wireless card working in Fedora (it works fine in windows).
lspci lists the following about the wireless card: Code: Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) so I assume it's a BCM4312.
So far I have tried downloading the driver from [URL] and then trying to install it according to the accompanying readme file: [URL]. However, when I try to make the driver, I get the following message:
Code: KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd` make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32.10-90.fc12.x86_64/build: No such file or directory. Stop. The Readme says that if I get this kind of error, I need to install the "kernel-devel" package, but I have this installed and it still returns the same error.
I have also tried following the fw-cutter instructions for fedora from [URL], but it still doesn't work. I realise there's the option of using ndiswrapper, but I gave that a shot with Fedora 11 on the same machine and had no luck, and I'd really like to see whether any of the other options work before going down that route.
I've been trying to install 11.04 on my 2009 Macbook Pro, but I can't complete the installation because Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wireless connection.
I have a problem with my wireless connection. I just installed the broadcom BCM4312 firmware in order to recognize my hardware. Everything is ok, it connects to my wireless network, but i can't access the internet. My wireless is in eth1 interface. If i try to connect using PPPOE it works.
I have a problem here with my updated kernel. I'm currently using Fedora 14 kernel 2.6.35.9-64, and my wireless card Broadcom BCM4312, which had an issue before with Linux distros, is working fine already, thanks to the kmod-wl software driver. My problem now is this, after updating to kernel 2.6.35.10-72, fedora does not boot, and I noticed that the wireless card is the only thing not activating, compared to the working kernel. And when i looked at the log of the bootup (pressed right arrow key), I saw this:
I face in getting my wireless connection work. I am able to establish connection with my router and browse router configuration pages successfully. However, trying to access any other internet address (through browser or ping etc) results in intolerable poor performance (70% to 100% packet loss in ping). Ethernet connection (eth0) works perfectly though. Am furnishing the details below:

I know this question was asked hundreds of times, but I sy=till can not fix my wireless. On the HP2133 with openSUSE 11.3 I have wired but no wireless connection. The driver is ssb On Terminal I see

I'm on a Dell Latitude E6500, and I'm switching from Windows 7 to Slackware 13.1; I've never used linux before. I'm trying to set up wireless internet, and it doesn't seem like there's any standard way of doing it for my system. When I run the "lspci -v" command, I find this:
I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 with disabled WLAN (otherwise the installation process didn't start). Now the system boots only in Safe Mode with enabled WLAN card (when the WLAN card is disabled it also boots in normal mode though). But even if I try to configure the WLAN card in Safe Mode, the system doesn't boot next time (in Safe Mode) until I add "brokenmodules=ssb" parameter. As I understand after reading this forum I should install a firmware/driver, but there is no install_bcm43xx_firmware script in /usr/sbin directory.
I have installed b43 with the install script and I can see all wireless networks fine, but NetworkManager just keeps asking me for the WPA passphrase, despite it being correct. I tried disabling WPA on the router, but then the connection hangs at "Configuring interface" instad. I also tried with ifup, but I'm not sure I configured everything correctly. I don't get any smarter from the NetworkManager logs, maybe someone else can decipher them? tail -50 when connection doesn't work:
Code: Apr 18 17:00:11 jan NetworkManager[1291]: <info> Activation (wlan0) Stage 2 of 5 (Device Configure) complete. Apr 18 17:00:11 jan NetworkManager[1291]: <info> Config: set interface ap_scan to 1
I have a Dell laptop with a bcm4312 wireless card. Every once in a while though, the laptop is unable to send or receive any data for 30 seconds. The connection is not dropped, and nothing shows up in any system logs. Both the wl and b43 drivers have this problem, but it works fine under vista.
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that has a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card installed. I do not have access to a wired connection to the web so any thing I have to install is a download on my windows machine and then transfer that to the debian machine. I just finished installing Debian Squeeze but can not get my wireless card to scan for any networks. I found a tutorial at [URL] and followed the steps there. Finding all the dependances and installing them one by one (took me all day). My wireless card still will not scan for networks. After doing a 'sudo ifconfig eth1 up' it still will not scan for networks.
Output from ifconfig: raygo75@RayGo-2:~$ sudo ifconfig eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:44:9b:e9:cc inet6 addr: fe80::216:44ff:fe9b:e9cc/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:17 Base address:0xc000
How do I get around this? It wants to get something from [URL] and I do not have internet access. It looks to me like it just wants to download the wl dirver, again, which I have done in the previous instructions I found. I am a retired UNIX (hp-unix) administrator so I know my way around the system.
I am having a problem while connecting to a D-Link Access Point with Multiple ESSID. It keeps saying activating but in the end nothing. I am using KnetworkManager & there is no Encryption on the Access Point.I am able to get connected with another machine using windows. Here is my hardware info:

I have been upgrading (upgrade from 11.3 then fresh install to 11.4) and as usual with Broadcom I have problems. On 11,3 I used the Pacman STA and was working fine. for 11.4, I suppose that my BCM4312 will be supported after installing the b43 driver. It actually woks, few seconds (but never had time to verify) Some background
lspci gives 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) Using KDE network manager I can see the wifi AP around, including mine, the problem is when I wan to connect, using WPA2 (TKIP + EAS), I have the right password (I can connect from another station), but when I try here it keeps coming back asking from password .. (I use the kwallet, but that should be out of scope) .. Basically it always fails..
I've just installed Ubuntu on 2 computers, and I'm new to it. However I'm not new to computers. The problem I'm currently running into on one of the computers is that the wireless will not detect any connections, despite there being many. The computer is a HP Compaq v6203AU using the wireless card Broadcom BCM4312 [14e4:4312]. I've went through dozens of walkthroughs, encountering errors in every single one of them, I've spent 8 hours on this one problem and extremely frustrated. It seem to be a problem with the driver that comes as default, and I'm lost at what to do.
The terminal command "lspci -nn | grep 14e4" returns the following: 03:00.0 Network Controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g [14e4:4312]
ifconfig returns the following: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:23:8b:b2:ab:d3 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:20 Base address:0x8000
I am new to Linux, nevertheless Ubuntu. I have Lucid Lynx on my laptop, with Windows Vista 32 bit along side of it. I have done some research, and found out thathe wireless connector on my laptop, a Broadcom BCM4312, doesn't work with Ubuntu 10.04. I know that I need a driver
I have a problem with the built-in wireless-card of my laptop. I can connect to the wireless DSL-router using wicd (wicd-1.7.0-486-2 from /extra), wicd reports that it connects and obtains an IP-address. It then changes the status to connected. Immediately after that (may be a second later) the status changes back to disconnected and I can't reach the network.
Here some specs: Kernel: self-compiled 2.6.37-6-generic, the only option I changed from the standard generic config was to enable PAE, but I also tried it with the standard generic kernel and the huge kernel. Wireless card: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) Firmware installed with the packages from Slackbuilds.org: network/b43-fwcutter network/b43-firmware. The wireless card is working correctly under Debian, so I think this is not a hardware issue.
I posted earlier and got no response, so here i go again. I installed openSUSE 11.3 KDE, it all works fine but the wireless doesnt work and i cant connect to the internet at all, i don't know how to, and i don't even know if the proper drivers are installed. I posted this in the last thread:
"i ran this this command in ubuntu:
Code: lspci | grep -i network came up with this result:
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Dell Mini 10v and for some reason I just realized that my wired network connection is not working for some reason. And not in windows either. But my wireless works in windows. So I have downloaded the latest Broadcom STA wireless drivers for linux and have tried to follow this tutorial to install it. But when I get to:
make -C /lib/modules/<2.6.xx.xx>/build M=`pwd` clean I can't get it to work. It says:
make: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-header-2.6.38-8-generic' scripts/Makefile.build:44: /usr/src/linux-header-2.6.38-8-generic/pwd/Makefile: No such file or directory make[1]: *** No rule to make target '/usr/src/linux-header-2.6.38-8-generic
Dell Studio 1735 w/BCM4312 WEP fails to connect even though I'm using the 10 character HEX key. It connects fine when there's no security on my Linksys WRT310N router. Ubuntu, Windows 7, my Samsung TV and TiVo all connect fine with the 10 character HEX key, but with opensuse 11.4 I can't connect.
I tried to find my solution for hours now but no luck. I'm a medical student and the other day I finally found the time to set up ubuntu for my first time. Everything was working great and I had wireless up and running. However, I tried to set up tethering to my iphone and after that my wireless hasn't been working (I've noticed no other problems). [URL]..Then I used this tutorial [URL].. However, after doing these steps the computer needed to reboot (I actually forget exactly where but I had to reboot in the middle of the second tutorial). After my computer restarted my wireless no longer showed up. By this I mean that wireless network no longer even showed up as an option when I left clicked then connections. However, I did not lose the wireless profile under network connections. So I went to system and noticed that the Broadcom STA driver was no longer active. So I tried to activate again and received this message.
