General :: Broadcom BCM4312 Firmware In Ubuntu 10.10 Beta?
Sep 26, 2010I recently switched from 10.04.1 Ubuntu that I had for only about a week, to Ubuntu 10.10 Beta. I switched because I heard that 10.10 comes with firmware right out of the box for BCM4312. I am new with Linux, and Ubuntu, but I do know what some of the commands do and etc. I got 10.10 installed, but the wireless options say "Not connected|Firmware Missing" What do I need to activate the firmware, or install it?

Everything is ok, it connects to my wireless network, but i can't access the internet. My wireless is in eth1 interface. If i try to connect using PPPOE it works.

Apr 18, 2011I have installed b43 with the install script and I can see all wireless networks fine, but NetworkManager just keeps asking me for the WPA passphrase, despite it being correct. I tried disabling WPA on the router, but then the connection hangs at "Configuring interface" instad. I also tried with ifup, but I'm not sure I configured everything correctly. I don't get any smarter from the NetworkManager logs, maybe someone else can decipher them? tail -50 when connection doesn't work:

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Broadcom BCM4312 WiFi When Using DHCP?
Feb 3, 2011I am having a problem while connecting to a D-Link Access Point with Multiple ESSID. It keeps saying activating but in the end nothing. I am using KnetworkManager & there is no Encryption on the Access Point.I am able to get connected with another machine using windows.Here is my hardware info:

Apr 25, 2011I have been upgrading (upgrade from 11.3 then fresh install to 11.4) and as usual with Broadcom I have problems. On 11,3 I used the Pacman STA and was working fine. for 11.4, I suppose that my BCM4312 will be supported after installing the b43 driver. lspci gives 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) Using KDE network manager I can see the wifi AP around, including mine, the problem is when I wan to connect, using WPA2 (TKIP + EAS), I have the right password (I can connect from another station), but when I try here it keeps coming back asking from password .. (I use the kwallet, but that should be out of scope) .. Basically it always fails..

I installed openSUSE 11.3 KDE, it all works fine but the wireless doesnt work and i cant connect to the internet at all, i don't know how to, and i don't even know if the proper drivers are installed. Jul 28, 2010I've just installed Ubuntu on 2 computers, and I'm new to it. However I'm not new to computers. The problem I'm currently running into on one of the computers is that the wireless will not detect any connections, despite there being many. The computer is a HP Compaq v6203AU using the wireless card Broadcom BCM4312 [14e4:4312]. I've went through dozens of walkthroughs, encountering errors in every single one of them, I've spent 8 hours on this one problem and extremely frustrated. It seem to be a problem with the driver that comes as default, and I'm lost at what to do.
The terminal command "lspci -nn | grep 14e4" returns the following:

May 5, 2011I have a problem with the built-in wireless-card of my laptop. I can connect to the wireless DSL-router using wicd (wicd-1.7.0-486-2 from /extra), wicd reports that it connects and obtains an IP-address. It then changes the status to connected. Immediately after that (may be a second later) the status changes back to disconnected and I can't reach the network.
Here some specs: Kernel: self-compiled 2.6.37-6-generic, the only option I changed from the standard generic config was to enable PAE, but I also tried it with the standard generic kernel and the huge kernel. Wireless card: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) Firmware installed with the packages from Slackbuilds.org: network/b43-fwcutter network/b43-firmware. The wireless card is working correctly under Debian, so I think this is not a hardware issue.

I'm currently using Fedora 14 kernel 2.6.35.9-64, and my wireless card Broadcom BCM4312, which had an issue before with Linux distros, is working fine already, thanks to the kmod-wl software driver. My problem now is this, after updating to kernel 2.6.35.10-72, fedora does not boot, and I noticed that the wireless card is the only thing not activating, compared to the working kernel. And when i looked at the log of the bootup (pressed right arrow key), I saw this:

Jun 10, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).
All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.
The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?
The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.

Mar 27, 2011I recently installed suse 11.4 x64 onto my hp tx2000 tablet. everything has been working great including the wifi card. It's a broadcom 4328 a/b/g/n/bluetooth card and it was using the broadcom-wl driver. Earlier today i plugged in an usb wifi adapter to test whether it worked on suse plug and play. Well after plugging in and using this wireless adapter, my internal wifi card is no longer visible to the system. I've tried lspci and its not displayed. I booted into a different suse install and it wont work there. My bios does not seem to have a disable feature and the killswitch is in the correct position. The bluetooth is working but the wifi is not. In lspci i used to see "hp integrated (wireless+bluetooth)" and "broadcom 4328..." but now only the former.

Jun 14, 2011I've recently burned Fedora 15 into a CD, in order to install from there onto my computer. However, when boot into Fedora, my wireless doesn't work, instead, it says that firmware is missing.I have had exactly the same problem installing other Linux distros, such as Ubuntu. When I consulted the support at Ubuntu, they were unable to solve the problem. The 'missing firmware' problem is exactly the same in other Linux distros, so I'm pretty much guessing that it's the same problem and is due to my wireless card incompatibility or something.

Jul 23, 2011I thought I'd give Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal??) a try on an old Dell Latitude D600 I had lying around. Install went great. Everything seems to run nice and slick.. except one thing.. the wireless is giving me the old "Device not ready (firmware missing)" So I can only use my lappy on a leash.
It's a pretty common Broadcom NIC... and I've tried running the System / Administration / Additional Drivers and nothing comes up.
It seems to me I need a driver someplace...I don't know where or how to get it installed.

Jun 29, 2011I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer Travelmate 290E computer. The installation went fine and everything was up and running until I wanted to use the wireless.
1. I got the "firmware not installed message" and installed the Broadcom b43 firmware.
2. I receive a new message: " wireless is disabled by hardware switch" (My acer does have a wireless switch that is switched to on.
3. After hours of research I tried to install Acer ACPI but my laptop model is not supported. I assume Ubuntu knows my wireless is there but thinks it is turned off, and the wireless switch can't communicate to Ubuntu properly.
I have already tried rfkill and all that good stuff. Doesn't work for me, Wireless is still hard blocked.
