I have a problem with getting my fedora 14 laptop to connect to my fedora 12 server that is hosting my smb HP Deskjet 5650 printer. The error that I get is the following: CUPS server error. There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-not-possible'.
I have been able to get my daughters Ubuntu laptop and my wife's Windows XP laptop to connect and print without a problem.

I'm having some problems compiling mednafen on Suse 11.4. When I run configure, things work fine until I get the following series of errors:

I've seen references in a few places that these type ("Present But Cannot Be Compiled") can usually be ignored, but in this case ./configure fails and I can't make. I am unsure why this is, as I've installed mednafen on Suse 11.4 before and it runs fine. I've tried installing various OpenGL-related packages that I can find (Mesa, freeglut, glib, etc) but nothing seems to solve the problem

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been switching out computers to the Ubuntu distro and so far it's been very successful until this recent snag! As I am trying to have a printer plugged in through USB on one computer and shared on the other! I have the USB on the second computer and it found the printer just fine, no problems and nothing else I had to install! I then went to the first computer and tried to add the printer through the CUPS website using all the proper addresses and queue names and I receive CUPS "client-error-not-possible". I have read other threads on this very same problem but to be honest they just make no sense whatsoever to me! I was thinking of just giving up and using a print server but I know that I will run into the same snag as even then I still need CUPS.

cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting!
cupsd: Child exited with status 1!
The log files show nothing. cupsd.conf exists. It is user - root and group - root with permissions set at 0644.
My interpretation of this is that the program is not launching from either boot or terminal for a fundamental reason. I do not quite see what that reason is .
What does this message mean? Can't KDE be updated at all or is it just this swedish dictionary?

I am running Fedora 15 and want to add a network printer (Brother HL 2040) on a Win pc reunning XP pro. Fedora finds the network printer, shows that is shares, but when I try to finish I get the above message. I have emptied the spool file of the test page I tried earlier and nothing but the tmp file remains. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've seen others here post queries about this, and I'll tell you what it was in my case: our DSL modem's DHCP server returns its own IPV4 address as the DNS server. When I looked at /etc/resolve.conf, I saw "nameserver: 192.168.50.254" on the last line -- the IPV4 address of our DSL modem. I manually inserted "nameserver" lines for our ISP's two actual DNS servers, and everything magically started working. Why this should confuse some software under Linux, but not other software, is a mystery. It also seems to be Gnome-specific (I didn't have this problem with OpenSuse 11.3 and KDE 4).
Ask if they're using Gnome, and ask them to check resolve.conf. A lot of DSL modems and home/small office routers return their own IP address (i.e., the same as the gateway address) for the DNS server on a DHCP query. The solution is to manually edit resolve.conf and put in your ISP's DNS server addresses manually. Incidentally, just my opinion, but Network Manager needs to make this an option. Under Windows, for example, you can select "automatically assign DNS" or you can enter them manually, even if you're using DHCP. It'd be nice if Network Manager permitted that.

When I installed Fedora GNOME I could use my printer fine (But I had to change the recommended driver) Now, I switched to KDE and I plug-in my printer, It automaticly adds it, Now I have to delete it and re-add to fix the small bug... i been getting errors when trying to use zypper from the console. This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. The error i get whenever i run something like zypper install xxxyyy.rpm or zypper update is:

I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption.This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
