OpenSUSE Network :: Setup Xen Virtual Nodes We Encountered One With The Network?

Jan 26, 2010

while trying to set up Xen Virtual Nodes we encountered one issue with the network (which is why it is posted here On the DomU the interface is provided by a bonding -bond0- of three NICS. Now the Xen network script a) does not take this bonding b) destroyes even this bonding From a number of posts I assume I have to configure this by hand, correct? Is there an instruction how to do this? Simply create a bridge on top of bond0??

OpenSUSE Network :: Encountered An Error With Pppd On Both 11.2 And 11.3

Dec 23, 2010

I recently encountered an error with pppd on both openSUSE 11.2 and 11.3. I use umtsmon (which uses pppd) to connect to the internet with my 3G device. Yesterday for some reason it just plainly refused to connect to the internet. I have been using the same configuration for almost a year now without any issues. I tried it on 4 different computers running 11.2 and 11.3 and all of them failed. Thinking that it is the hardware I borrowed a windows laptop and tested it on that, only to find that it works flawlessly. On my network server I sometimes use the device as a backup and activate it with "ifup modem0", for some reason this also now fails.

After doing some troubleshooting I managed to extract the following from pppd.

Running it with my user account:

pppd options in effect:

I have no idea why pppd would break all of a sudden but I expect it might have been an update that broke it since I have automated updates on all of my systems.

OpenSUSE Network :: Setup As A Network Boot Server To Install Solaris 10 On A Sun Ultra 10 Client?

I have an opensuse 11.3 install which I want to set up as a network boot server to install Solaris 10 on a Sun Ultra 10 client. According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?

I manually have tochoose my own profile for the Ethernet card every time. How can I make it default??I know the workaround would be to use ifup but then I lose the ability to quickly change access points for my WiFi card so that's not a solution for me

Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Set Up A Virtual Network, Set Up The Printer As A Network Printer?

Jan 17, 2010

Having made the transition from a certain widely used operating system to linux, suse 11.2, x64, successfully and pleasantly we are still left with a few problems. One of these is a few applications i have to use which run only in that old OS. ?To that end I have installed VirtualBox and got them to run with one glitch. I cannot print from VBox to my HP LaserJet 4000, lpt1 printer, which works fine in suse. Searching and posting on the Vbox forums turned up that lpt1 is not supported in the current vbox and that I need to set up a virtual network, set up the printer as a network printer and set it up as an lpd/lpr printer in Vbox WinXP. Have tried many different ways to do this without success, I think the problem is I do not know how to set up a network printer in Linux.

The virtual network is vboxnet0, which does show up in ifconfig, along with my eth0 net, and I can ping the windows guest, gateway and the host from either side host:suse/guest:winXP) respectively. Have tried numerous ways of setting up printer in YaST which works in suse but still does not work from WinXP guest. Have read the suse manual and several sources and searched forums with no results. Finally I am thinking I just don't know how to set up a network printer in linux. Using cups, kde, suse 11.2, don't know what else to tell. Samba is installed, although I am not using it to the best of my knowledge.

Networking :: PPTP Setup: Put Remote Clients Into A "virtual" Local Network?

Feb 7, 2009

I have a Slicehost VPS and I'm trying to set up PPTPD on it. I only have one IP address (the public IP of the box). All the PPTPD howto's I've seen rely on assigning remote clients IPs from the local subnet (e.g. the PPTD server's local IP is 192.168.0.20, and remote IPs are taken from a pool of 192.168.0.30-40).

However I don't think I can do that as I only have the one IP address on Slicehost's network - that public IP (and all other IPs in the segment are public). So what I really want to do is to be able to create a private LAN segment or virtual network adapter and have VPN clients assigned addresses in that segment, then routed out onto the Internet effectively using the PPTPD box as a router. I am using Ubuntu Hardy (LTS).

Networking :: Feasible / Desirable To Setup A Network Of Virtual Machines To Use As An Environment To Learn Networking?

Nov 18, 2010

I've been learning linux for a while now with half an eye on making a career out of it in future. One sizeable gap in my knowledge at the moment is networking. Is it feasible/desirable to set up a network of virtual machines to use as an environment to learn networking? My budget is non-existent so I was hoping to be able to get a basic understanding of the principles from installing a few desktops, a virtual gateway etc on VMware workstation on my laptop, and doing a lot of reading online.

Is this feasible, or will I just end up learning about virtual networks instead of real ones? Also how much power would be required, because my 3GB RAM lappy has just gone bang and all I have now is a (new) 1GB RAM lappy.

OpenSUSE Network :: Set Up 3 Virtual Machines On A Server

Dec 10, 2010

I only have one IP adress to access the server. But the server will host 3 web sites and I want them to be hosted in a vm. So, I want to setup 3 virtual machines to do it and use apache reverse proxy and vhosts to redirect the domain requested to the right vm. Now. I understand the concept, but I am not an expert to set that up....

I have an openSUSE 11.3 server. So, I have to set a virtual machine server, is that right? I have been told that I cannot do it with VMware server in oS 11.3. Can I use virtualbox for this? I only have to install virtual box? Is there a special version to install? Once the virtual machine server is install, is it trivial to create 3 vm? So, I want to know wich are the steps I have to take to set that up.
