General :: Finding A Traffic Monitor That Only Counts In A Specific Wireless Network

Jul 28, 2011

I need a simple traffic monitor for Linux, that counts the traffic in a specific wireless network because I have volume restrictions on that one.I tried it using the following iptables rule:

iptables -m mac -A INPUT -p all --mac-source <mac-address> ! -s

where <mac-address> is the router's one. is the local subnet. What I actually want is something like --routed-through <mac-address>. Also, is there some way to gather iptables's statistics? Or is there maybe another tool that does what I want (reliable)?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Doesn't Support Scanning

Nov 10, 2010

I am using an HP G60 laptop with a built in wireless NIC but am unable to get the wireless connection working. I have followed the advice in the sticky messages above and have included the information below. I know the wireless modem is working as I have got a spare USB wireless dongle running on the desktop (ironically - I can only get it working where it is not needed!!!). The same dongle will not work on the laptop. So it is a config thing and not a hardware issue On a trivial level, left clicking on the Network Manager icon shows the "enable wireless" greyed out. Desktop and laptop are running SuSE 11.3 and KDE4.4.4. I have tried the traditional method as well as knetwork manager and have no success with either. Here are the technical details. OpenSUSE Network :: Some Website's CSS/images Won't Load?

Feb 2, 2009

Ever since switching to openSUSE 11.1, I have been having problems with certain websites (using the version of Firefox that came with openSUSE 11.1). Some website's CSS code won't load until repeated reloads - for example, I'll visit the website and it will be all distorted because the stylesheets did not load, and I will have to refresh a number of times before it becomes usable. Other website's images won't load until multiple refreshes, like facebook.

Is this an openSUSE issue? An openSUSE interaction with Firefox issue? I've never had this problem on XP or Ubuntu.

OpenSUSE Network :: Lock A Certain Website For Internal Users?

Aug 4, 2010

I have a firewall/router box running openSUSE 11.2 between the outside world and the LAN. This router also provides DNS for the LAN and has SuSEfirewall enabled. LAN users need (almost) full access to the internet. However, I want to block certain sites which are not required for work (you name it: facebook is my candidate). What is the most elegant way to block certain sites (which have quite a lot of different IP numbers) ?

OpenSUSE Network :: Accessing Server In Order To Modify Website?

Feb 27, 2011

I was saddled with the job of maintaining my department's website (I work at a college). When I still used windows I would access my department's folder on the web server using the following procedure: (in windows XP) go to the start menu > click 'run' > enter the folder address, I would be prompted for my login and password. The folder, and the whole server in fact, would then be visible in the windows file browser, under the 'networks' icon. I could then navigate to my department's folder and modify the files I need to to update the website.

How do I do this in Opensuse (using Gnome). I tried going to 'network' in nautilus and then 'open location' but no luck. I also tried 'connect to server' in nautilus (in the 'file' menu), but again no luck. which I could stomach if my college provided reliable access to computers on campus, but they don't so I have to use my laptop, which is now windows free . My current job is only going to last for a few more months, so having only so recently got rid of windows I am reluctant to re-install it just for this purpose (which is just about the only reason I currently have for using windows - the other is being able to download audiobooks from the public library, but that's another matter).

General :: Finding Website Links In HTML Files?

May 29, 2010

I have a website that has a massive list of royalty free stock photos and I want to download all of them. I have bought a membership for [URL] so I am able to download as much as I want from them for the next month.

Instead of going page by page and manually downloading each set of stock photos manually, I would like to automate this process. Here's my idea:

1. Download the website with the links to hotfile [URL]

2. Use grep to retrieve all the links to [URL]

3. Feed the links I recieve from grep into wget and download the works of them.

The problem I'm getting is when I use grep, It retrieves the entire line of html code where "" is shown. So here is an example of one link I receive in the output:

./1776-santa-claus-vector-set.html:<div align="center"><a href="" target="_blank">HotFile</a></div>

Is there a way to just have the link shown in the output?

PS: I have everything else working, I just need an automated process of getting all the links.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Interface Doesn't Support Scanning

Nov 8, 2010

I have only just got my first netbook and when I first installed 11.2 on it it would detect local networks and ask if I wanted to use any of them. Since they belonged to other people and I use a wired connection at home, I declined. I then took my netbook on travels and tried to connect to freely available networks there, but to my surprise it no longer detected them. I tried to go through YAsT and see what needs to be changed but no matter what I tried the wireless option was never offered again.

I have now come back and decided to get to the bottom of this. Here is what I get from iwlist scan:lo Interface doesn't support scanning eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning. It is as if there has never been a wireless capability. Can anyone advise on what to do to fix this?

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.3 Home Firewall With IPSec Support For Cisco VPN

Aug 10, 2010

I have a new install of an OpenSuse 11.3 server and I do not see the IPSec Support option when I use Yast to set that I up. I have the firewall setup with 2 interfaces, one external and one internal and that is all working fine. When I connect via my laptop and connect in via a Cisco IPSec VPN, I get connected, but no traffic goes through.

I did search through the forums, but I don't see any hits related to the issue I'm facing. I installed the ipsec-tools, but I am still not seeing the IPSec Support in the firewall section of Yast that I see noted on many Google Searches. Is there a package or something configuration that is needed to get IPSec Support for VPN setup?
