Ubuntu :: Wireless Card Stopped Finding Network (10.10)?

desktop has been running Ubuntu 10.10 just fine since December. Today, the connections menu shows nothing but "Wireless Networks: disconnected." My laptop is inches away and has a full connection.I'm not sure what diagnostic tools I have at my disposal. The one thing I've been able to do is lspci. The relevant output of sudo lspci -v | less is:

after about 3 12 hour days of messing with it, i'm nearly positive there is no way the onboard broadcom wireless is going to work. (it's an hp dv9000 running ubuntu studio 10.4)can someone recommend a wireless express card that will work out the box with no troubles?

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?

I've a working internal Intel wifi card but it does not have the greatest of ranges so I bought a Edimax EW-7711UAn.
On the box is says Linux compatible. All knowing Google states that it works out of the box with Ubuntu 10.04.
NetworkManager lists the card at a Ralink 8011.n WLAN (disconnected).
There are no networks listed under this card in NetworkManager or wicd even if I disable the internal wifi using the nm-system-settings.conf.
dmesg has the following lines:

The led flashes quickly a few times when I plug it in then once a second after that.
The firmware rt2870.bin is in /lib/firmware/
I've even gone old-school and tried compiling the newest driver from Ralink but this fails with...

Well, I have an issue with my wireless card in Ubuntu 10.04, my wireless card model is:
the D-Link WIRELESS N 150 DESKTOP ADAPTER DWA-525. I was already successful getting it to work by using the RaLink driver suggested here and following the instructions in their readme.But after a system update I performed through Update Manager (in which I guess the kernel was updated), the device stopped working completely. The wireless icon remains(in the top panel), but it displays a red exclamation mark next to it

I have a relatively new F12 install (one week old) on which I got my wireless Broadcom card working using kmod-wl-PAE. It was a very easy process - not really a process just yum install kmod-wl-PAE.
After a few updates, I notice that the wireless card stopped working. I assumed maybe there was an update that conflicted, so I did a reinstall of kmod-wl-PAE and it worked again immediately.
Then I started installing compiz-fusion. Immediately after, wireless is broken again. So I yum erase kmod-wl-PAE and then yum install kmod-wl-PAE and it works again.
Now, only slightly later that same day, wireless stops working more or less randomly and I cannot get the reinstall of kmod-wl-PAE to fix it. So I uninstall, disable compiz-fusion, shut down, and restart the computer to try again. My thought is that maybe along the way my autostart compiz or something about compiz is causing the wireless not to configure properly. When I restart, wireless is working. Without kmod-wl-PAE installed:

After doing a reconfigure of my wrt54gl router, trying to activate WEP encryption, and then finding WICD wouldn't connect, and returning to the original config on the router, now wicd won't reconnect the wireless card. Here's the wicd.log entry from the attempt to connect:

I have a new Thinkpad t510 laptop with an intel centrino wireless N card (no bluetooth). I installed ubuntu a couple weeks ago after I got another hard drive in the expansion bay. I have the drive partitioned into two sections, 250gb for file storage, and 250gb for the linux OS. Currently no other OS is installed on the other harddrive.
I have had everything perfect for the past couple weeks, but once i installed some updates today, my wireless fails to work now. Just some general info that you might ask me, lspci | grep Network, returns

I just installed Slackware 13 with xfce and everything went well (eventually). At first, my wireless didn't work, but then I found /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless.conf. I'm not a total newbie, but run into some strange problems with my installation of Lucid.Everything was working fine yesterday. I shut down the laptop and powered it up this morning and had problems with network. I have two NICs (wired and wireless). Both are set to pick up IP settings from DHCP and both do, however when using wired network I can't communicate with outside world - can't even ping the default gateway (but pinging 127.0.0.1 or IP address of the NIC no problem, so stack should be OK).When on the wireless network everything works fine (otherwise I would struggle to write this post ).What is very weird though is that I have a VMWare Player installed and using Windows VM on wired network works just great!
I noticed that when you're persistent it happens that you can ping but huge chunks of traffic are lost (e.g. packet 1-10 would pass, 11-40 would be lost, 41-59 would pass and so on).I restarted Ubuntu, tried shutting down interfaces, disabling networking and nothing helped. I don't recall performing any changes (at least that I would be aware of).Can anyone suggest something?BTW. This is not DNS issue as both IP addresses and FQDNs do not work. When I refer to using a given network (wired or wireless) the other one is down with ifconfig command...

I installled Ubuntu 10.4.1 on a brand new computer with a Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller on a Foxconn G41MXE motherboard. and I have been unable to connect to wireless network. my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."
I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

I need a simple traffic monitor for Linux, that counts the traffic in a specific wireless network because I have volume restrictions on that one.I tried it using the following iptables rule:

I am running SLED 11 and My Networkcard is Intel PRO/Wireless 5300. In short, it is not there anymore! I mean I was connected and everything and the next time I restarted It could not detect any wireless network. I deleted the wireless network card in hopes that the OS will automatically detect it on startup and set it right but NOPE. When I check the hardware information in YAST, it is listed there and it is also working under Windows.

I recently installed a startech PCI usb expansion card...All went well and all external devices connected show up without a hitch. However a day ago The card/devices just STOPPED. I rebooted and no avail. Rebooted a second time got a IRQ 19 failure error. Then on a third try It showed up and worked fine... This has happened twice. Here's my IRQ print after running cat /proc/interrupts
