Hardware :: Which 64 Bit Distribution Best Deals With RaLink 3090 Wireless N Cards
Jun 13, 2011I have a Gateway DX4850 I7 cpu computer. It has a Ralink 3090 wireless card. 64 bit system. What, in your assessment, is the best distro to work with such a card? I CAN hack stuff. I would prefer not to. I've heard that fedora 15 is to be avoided, but have no experience with it.

Jul 17, 2010I am running Ubuntu 10.04 (32-bit) on a MSI A5000 which appears to have a RaLink RT3090 wireless card. So far everything seems to work except the Wireless card.
The problem is that no option for wireless appears in the network manager, it only shows the options for wired connection. This computer does have a button on the front to enable/disable wireless and I have confirmed that is is on, as there is a green indicator light showing this.
Can anyone tell me the status of the RaLink RT3090 with Ubuntu 10.04? I have looked through various posts here about getting this card working with earlier versions of the OS, where complicated procedures with mixed and apparently intermittent results are described. Do these measures also need to be followed with 10.04?
I have attempted several older solutions found in assorted threads here and I am still unable to get the card to even so much as show up in the network manager. The proceedure which seemed the most promising is here [URL]

Oct 19, 2010I have an HP DV6 3143se which has a Ralink 3090 wifi card in it.the only thing that doesn't work at the moment is the Wifi. I tried installing the Linux backports module, but the trouble is that sometimes, my home wifi network is shown on the list of available networks and most often, it's not. when the network does show up, and i click on it and enter my WPA2 password, it takes ages to handshake and then it tells me that my password is wrong. the same password works in windows 7 so something's not working.
when i try to disable and re enable wireless network on the network manager applet, i get a Wireless device not ready or Network manager not running message.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Ralink T2501USB Not Detected?
Oct 28, 2009Just discovering Linux. Couldn't expect everything to work right away, of course. I has some issues with the x11 (the GUI wouldn't show itself), but have gotten around that. Next is WLAN. I have a Motorola USB stick whose chipset i've identified as the Ralink T2501.
It won't show up in YAST as a WLAN adapter, but does in the USB devices attached. I've procured what the sticky advised, and this is it:

Aug 10, 2010Desktop PC with Trendnet TEW-642 PCI wireless N adapter (Ralink 2860 STA driver). Running openSUSE 11.3 X8_64 with KDE 4.4.4. Software Management and KNetwork Manager both identified rt2860STA as installed. However, KNetwork Manager's authentication window keeps popping up every few seconds and I cannot get wireless.

Mar 6, 2010I have installed opensuse 11.2 on a second partition, with the ultimate aim of leaving windows altogether. Unfortunately, I seem to be having terrible trouble (as do many others) getting my wireless internet connection working. I have viewed lots of posts in these forums and done everything I can think of, but since I am a linux novice, am unable to identify the problem. The card is working, since it can identify local SSIDs, it has been set up (to the best of my knowledge) correctly in YAST, but nothing seems to work.

Nov 7, 2010Im a Linux newbie and am running OpenSuse 11.3 (Gnome, 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop Kernel) and Ive an Asus N13 wifi dongle (linux compatible). I currently connect using my laptopś internal wifi but I bought the dongle due to trouble with weak signal. It came with some sort of code that can be "compiled" but I havent got a clue how to do that (and I have been researching this matter for quite some time now). I then came across a post where someone with the same USB stick created and added only two small files to his filesystem and it worked...for him (maybe becasuse he was on a different Distro )
Ralink RT2870 USB Stick and created the two files mentioned in the post (network_drivers.rules and network_drivers.conf) and placed them in ETC... etc, etc! I rebooted the system but NetworkManager only lists it as "device not ready" ... So now back to square one.

Nov 19, 2010Just purchased this USB wifi NIC. installs and work perfect under Win XP, how ever I can't seem to get working on my opensuse 11.3
Network manager did not recognize the NIC out of the box (still doesn't) so I started trawling the forum and I've read both wireless 'stickys'.
When out of the box did not work I installed the rt3070sta-kmp-desktop - RT3070 Wireless Lan Linux Driver from the repos.

Nov 10, 2010I am using an HP G60 laptop with a built in wireless NIC but am unable to get the wireless connection working. I have followed the advice in the sticky messages above and have included the information below. I know the wireless modem is working as I have got a spare USB wireless dongle running on the desktop (ironically - I can only get it working where it is not needed!!!). The same dongle will not work on the laptop. So it is a config thing and not a hardware issue On a trivial level, left clicking on the Network Manager icon shows the "enable wireless" greyed out. Desktop and laptop are running SuSE 11.3 and KDE4.4.4. I have tried the traditional method as well as knetwork manager and have no success with either. Here are the technical details. Apr 29, 2011I know WEP is frowned upon and enverone should be using WPA. And my hostapd AP is working with WPA clients. However, I would like to alow some older clients that can only "talk" WEP to connect. All my attempts so far have failed! Can anyone point me in the right direction? The hostapd.conf file comments suggests that hostapd can support WEP. There are no contraindications or flags that I can find in the defconfig file that suggest that a WEP module needs to be complied-in to the final make.

Nov 8, 2010I have only just got my first netbook and when I first installed 11.2 on it it would detect local networks and ask if I wanted to use any of them. Since they belonged to other people and I use a wired connection at home, I declined. I then took my netbook on travels and tried to connect to freely available networks there, but to my surprise it no longer detected them. I tried to go through YAsT and see what needs to be changed but no matter what I tried the wireless option was never offered again.
I have now come back and decided to get to the bottom of this. Here is what I get from iwlist scan:lo Interface doesn't support scanning eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.It is as if there has never been a wireless capability. Can anyone advise on what to do to fix this?

Feb 2, 2010I had a problem with using ndiswrapper to install Windows driver on Netgear WN511TA wireless adapter card. Problem solved by replacing Netgear WN511TA with Airlink101 AWLC6080 PCMCIA wireless adapter to work in my triple-boot XP Pro/Ubuntu Karmic/openSUSE 11.2 Toshiba laptop and using the latest Linux driver version 2.3.0.0 dated January 29, 2010 from Ralinktech site. I followed driver instruction in a Ubuntuforums tutorial (Howto: Ralink RT2860(m) PCI(e) RT2860...on Intrepid).
I am wondering if I can use the same Linux driver (RT2860sta) for openSUSE 11.2 on my triple-boot XP Pro/Karmic/openSUSE laptop, ie. copying over instead of building and compiling driver from source again, because I don't quite understand the build instruction given in the README file of Ralink's Linux driver file. Specifically, I don't know how to "define the GCC and LD (?) of the target machine, and define the compiler flags CFLAGS(?), modify your need (?)", etc. I already have gcc, cpp and make installed on the Ubuntu and openSUSE parts of my machine. I did try ndiswrapper in openSUSE but it doesn't work for the Windows version of the latest Ralink driver (error: invalid driver rt2860.inf).

Jan 7, 2010Even with both machines in the same room, I'm only getting 1Mbps when using a pair of TL-WN321G wireless USB adapters to link my main box and my laptop. I'm using Fedora 11 on both machines. It is just as bad if I use the laptop's built-in wireless. lsusb shows the adapter uses the Ralink RT2501USB chipset. iwlist wlan0 rate gives "wlan0 unknown bit-rate information."

Nov 11, 2010I recently purchased an MSI A5000 notebook, but regrettably it happens to use an obscure branded wireless card that's given me quite a bit of frustration to get working. I do have a bit of history behind this card that might help to solve this problem. First of all the card is a Ralink rt3090STA, and the manufacturer does provide a linux driver for this card (available here)
I was using Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit until last week, when I decided that I would like to try using a 64 bit system. I would prefer to use fedora instead of Ubuntu for the time being. Ubuntu had some major problems recognizing the card for some time before I was able to get it to work. The process I used to resolve the issue on my Ubuntu system has not proven successful on Fedora 13 x64, and I would like any help I can get to try to resolve this problem.

Apr 26, 2010About a year ago I had a different computer with this same wireless card (edimax EW-7128g) and it was recognized immediately after I installed ubuntu 8.10. I found this hardware compatibility page, and it says it is compatible, at least on 9.04.
After reading this old guide I found:[URL].. I downloaded the latest driver, and followed the instructions (i had to refer to the readme too, some things were slightly different which I'm assuming is because it's the 2010 driver not the version referred to in that tutorial) up until:
(e) copy the rt61.ko driver file to the modules directory then load it

I don't see where rt61.ko is.I've got the information for my wireless connection edited into /etc/Wireless/RT61STA/ rt61sta.dat iwconfig shows pretty much default stuff, no mention of my wireless card or any type of connection, though the card does show up at the bottom of the lspci query. I added the wireless connection information into the "Network Connections" prompt in the preferences, but obviously that's not accomplished much of anything for obvious reasons. Should I just install 9.04? Judging from this account, getting this wireless card to work would be a hell of a lot easier.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: RaLink RT3090 Wireless Woes?
Jul 11, 2010I recently installed CentOS 5.5 on a Acer Revo with RaLink RT3090 wireless card (RaLink RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe). Everything works great except for the wireless card. I've looked at the ELRepo repository, but there is no support for this particular driver. Has anyone had any success with this card or am I stuck with no wireless.

Apr 20, 2009I have recently installed Fedora 10 onto my PC, dual booting with XP, and I am fairly new to linux. I have been trying to connect to my wireless network, but cannot even get Fedora to recognise my wireless adapter (Belkin N1 +MIMO). I have tried to follow a few tutorials that go through either the ndiswrapper method or by using native drivers. Because I don't have an internet connection on Fedora, I have to boot into XP to download the files for either ndiswrapper or the native drivers, rather than installing using the terminal.I downloaded the ndiswrapper RPM, and it failed because of an 'unexpected error', and when using the tarball, it could not find the makefile. The native drivers did not install because of unresolved dependencies.

Before I tell you my problem, I would like to say that I know a lot about windows, but about linux, I don't know anything. A plain beginner. And about my problem, it's more like a "how to" question than a problem.
You see, I don't know how to set up the wifi? The pc has installed wifi, and all I need to know is how I can connect to the internet. In windows you would usually just press the connection icon and then choose witch network you would like to access, and then eventually type in the password, and there you go. But it seems it's a little more advanced at Fedora. But I will give it a shot.

Mar 11, 2010I just purchased a RALINK WIRELESS G PCMCIA WIFI CARD VISTA/LINUX (UBUNTU).
It is supposed to be UBUNTU plug and play out of the box with no driver downloads needed.
I installed it but could not find a way to search the active Wi-Fi networks available like on my Actiontec card on windows xp. The wireless router/ethernet I have is an Actiontec setup for Qwest-DSL and Actiontec is the name of the wireless network.
Strangely I tried to choose setup a "new network" and entered Actiontec as the network name and it found the network and said it was connected to it. However the internet still is not working?

Aug 18, 2010this is my first attempt to get into Linux (10.04 Lucid Lynx), and I'm eager to learn. The problem is however that i can't connect to the internet using my USB wifi dongle (Jensen 25150). I've tried what this link says:I've tried to blacklist rt2800usb, rt2x00lib, rt2x00usb and rt2870sta and to load "/etc/modules/rt3070sta", but no luck in that, so I simply do not know what to do next. Perhaps I haven't blacklisted them the right way? I've typed in the commands and saved Gedit and closed it. Is that the right way?

Mar 10, 2011I just want to setup adhoc network using the wireless card that came with the box but I'm having a hard time getting it up.
