OpenSUSE Network :: How To Enable Usershares
Jan 22, 2009
I am new to OpenSuse and want to exchange files wirelessly between Windows and Linux computers in our office. I run 11.1 Gnome on a 64-bit laptop. When I want to share a directory in my Home Folder, I get the message:
'net usershare' returned error 255: net userhare: usershares are currently disabled
So, how do I enable usershares in OpenSuse?

I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

I have one server with 4 network interfaces:
eth0: 192.168.0.0/24 - local lan A
eth1: 200.1.2.3 - internet link - default route
eth2: 192.168.10.0/24 - local lan B eth3: 192.168.20.0/24 - local lan C
Lan A - Default routing to eth0
Lan B - Default routing to eth2
Lan c - Default routing to another server but the workstations has static routing to this server too.
Everything is working fine on Opensuse 11.1 until I upgrade this sever to Opensuse 11.2 ( Reinstall, not update at all ). After upgrade to 11.2 the routing across local lan interfaces simply not work, if you try to ping lan-to-lan you got the message: Network unreachable, even with the IP Forward enable, but the default route is working fine trough the SNAT.
I've come back to Opensuse 11.1 and everything become normal, does anyone have an problem like this? Maybe a bug? PS: I do not try to disable the AppArmor, next weekend I will try Opensuse 11.2 without the AppArmor and post here anyway.

I have a minor problem with Knetwork-manager. When I boot up, it won't connect to my wireless router automatically. I have to right-click the taskbar icon, disable wireless, then enable wireless, then it connects fine.It remembers the password fine and once it's connected, it's flawless. It's just the minor issue of having to effectively 'switch the internet on' rather than it just being connected when I turn on my laptop.
I'm using Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 (didn't have this issue with 11.1). I've tried the latest Kubuntu (9.10) and knetwork-manager worked flawlessly but I didn't like the rest of the OS so I came back to Opensuse If I restart, suspend or hibernate it usually connects okay, it just seems to be when I boot from 'cold'.
I've tried nm-applet but same problem. I also tried wicd but it didn't really like my system. I've changed my wireless router recently as well with no change, so I don't think it's that. As I say it's a minor problem, it's not really an issue for me to turn it on each time but it would be nice to clear it up. I've googled and searched since 11.2 was released but haven't found any answers and my linux skills are still a bit lacking.

I was able to build a NFS server and a NFS client using OpenSuse 11.3 and connect them together using gigabit ethernet through a switch. These are the only 2 devices on this net (192.168.1.xx). I tried to set the MTU to 9000 and 9014 but learned that the Realtek 8169/8111 only support up to about 7200 MTU. So I inserted Intel NIC cards on both and set both to 9000. The system accepts this and I can ssh from one machine to the other. Both NFS client and server start w/o issue and the client mounts the device just fine. But when I try to copy a file on the NFS client from the local disk to the server, the client just hangs and I have to physically turn the machine off in order to get it to work. Both systems are using the stock software from the DVD (I didn't update either).

I want to share my WiFi internet connection over LAN, so I'm trying to set up IP forwarding. An old tutorial tells me to go to Network Settings in YaST to do this, but that applet says that NetworkManager is now handling all of that stuff. How do I enable IP forwarding while NetworkManager handles my internet connections?

I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I have an Averatec 3200 laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card. When I click on Network Connections, it says wireless is disabled. I checked my /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state file, and it said "wireless enabled=false" so I changed it to true.
It just goes back to false on reboot. I also ran rfkill unblock all, but rfkill list still shows that there is a hardware block on. The driver for this wireless card shows that it is installed. I'm not sure what to try next!I just bought this computer used, and freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 on it, so can't say if it worked in any other distro.

My MythTV box has two interfaces:
A 10/100 Ethernet interface built into the motherboard. (Recognized as eth0)
A USB wireless dongle. Linksys, I believe. (Recognized as wlan0)
Both of these were working fine under FC8.
I recently performed a full reinstall, using Fedora 12.
Both network devices are recognized. I can configure them, using the Network Devices GUI that comes with KDE.
In the case of the wireless device, I entered all of the required information. (Copied in from the FC8 settings.)
Here's the problem. Whether I'm the root user or not, the "Enable" button is grayed out.
Any ideas? I had *no problem* with this device under FC8. The hardware "I see you" messages in /var/log/messages don't suggest any problems. I'm not leaving out any setting information.

I recently installed Fedora on an old computer of mine that I pulled out of storage, and I can not get it to detect my wireless network. Previously it was running Windows XP and I was able to get it to connect, but now that I'm on Fedora it doesn't even detect my network. I tried lspci and lsusb but I didn't find anything under network, only Ethernet showing my linksys. I know I must have a wireless chipset, but nothing will show.
I also attempted to yum install ndiswrapper because another thread with a similar problem suggested this, and when it prompted me for my password it wouldn't let me type. How would I go about fixing this?

Ubuntu desktop 9.04 Whenever I try to copy files to any machine on the network, the transfer stops and I no longer have access to the network or the internet. This happens whether I'm doing scp, copy with the gui, when copying to windows machines, and when uploading database files with phpmyadmin. I have been able to successfully transfer large amounts of data outside of the network via ftp, but not to any on the network. I've discovered that I can re-enable network access by restarting NetworkManager.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and for a while I had no problems connecting to the internet through the wireless network. But recently, my wireless connection started disconnecting regularly. Following an advice I found online, I installed linux-backports-modules-karmic, but after a reboot the wireless device stopped working altogether - it had lost its driver. Since then I managed to associate the device with Broadcom's STA driver, which I had been using before. But now, the wireless device cannot connect to the internet anymore. The network manager's output to /var/log/syslog indicates that the device cannot obtain an IP address. When I run code...
