Does anyone know how to permanently enable X connections from all machines on my local network. I keep having to enter 'xhost +' to allow X connections.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS system with two network interfaces (both Ethernet). I wish to setup this system such that it is simultaneously connected to my local and an OpenVPN network and able direct traffic between the connections depending on what program is sending the traffic. The problem: Under my current OpenVPN configuration all network traffic is directed to the VPN.

In practice, I would like OpenVPN to operate out of one of my two network interfaces and leave the other interface connected to the local network. Then by default all network traffic should be directed to my local network unless I specify (on a per program bases) that certain traffic should go though the VPN. These two network connections can (should) stay completely independent of each other and do not need to talk to each other.
I want to share my WiFi internet connection over LAN, so I'm trying to set up IP forwarding. An old tutorial tells me to go to Network Settings in YaST to do this, but that applet says that NetworkManager is now handling all of that stuff.How do I enable IP forwarding while NetworkManager handles my internet connections?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo in an effort to increase the speed of my netbook, I removed Ubuntu and installed Lubuntu on it. When I tried to mount my samba share as I normally do, I noticed it wasn't able to connect - mount error(113): No route to host. Sensing something fishy, I attempted to ping the machine (both by name and by IP) - Destination Host Unreachable.The machine I'm trying to connect to is using Ubuntu 10.04 x64. I attempted to ping the other way and it was able to connect to the netbook just fine. When the netbook was using Ubuntu, it was connecting fine. My iptables check out ok, but here is the output of iptables -nvL:

Does lubuntu have some funky firewall built in to it that I can't find? (I've Googled for information on a Lubuntu default firewall and can't find any)

I first tried an upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and lost Internet Access, so i re-loaded 11.4 from scratch on clean partitions.
I am connected to my wireless WPA2/PSK connection, have an IP, am able to see the network.
I turned off and disabled the SUSE firewall.
I tried setting Firefox proxy settings to auto and to none, i dont use proxy.
I am currently posting this through an SSH connection to my 11.1 server from the new install of 11.4 on a Dell latitude D600 laptop (not using the on-board Broadcomm that is an issue for a later date).
I am running out of ideas anyone got a clue.
I had a google of this but can't find anything useful. I use networkmanager to configure my wireless card. Currently this only works when I'm logged in to KDE. If I log out the system loses the network connection. Is there a way to make it persistent using NetworkManager?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just finished a fresh install of 11.3 on an HP 7900 small form factor and have no network connectivity. In Network Tools eth0 shows the state as inactive. Network Connections didn't have a connection, so after letting it create one there is no MAC address. I copied and pasted the MAC address from Network Connections eth0, set up a static address with default gateway, netmask, etc. all set appropriately and rebooted. Still no joy.
I want this to get an address via DHCP, I just set up a static address for testing.11.2 sensed the NIC without issue, but 11.3 doesn't seem to like me right now.I wanted to get this deployed on 40 machines today. Oh well.
network manager isnt showing any network interfaces. ifconfig shows wlan0 and eth0 and internet is working. how can i get network manager to manage those connections?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI remember when using openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.5, the network connections started to show the last date used for my "NIC".I am using the plasmoid-networkmanagement plasmoid and KNemo.After I downloaded and installed openSUSE 11.4 64-bit, the network connection no longer shows the last date used. I have set up my card via Yast and Iam connected directly to the Internet. No proxy.To find where this is located, navigate to:Configure Desktop --> Network Settings --> Network Connections --> Wired tab.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst a warning that I'm so clueless it hurts. Initially I entered the Linux world as a solution to my blue screening Alienware Aurora desktop (which later fried anyway ironically enough). I decided to give up on Windows for everyday use cause you can't strangle an operating system. My first and there after Linux experiences have been fantastic. Internet works without prompting through various distributions of Ubuntu, Mint, and KDE with the exception of enlightenment.
But now I come to openSUSE 11.4 and as my title suggests I'm having a hard time connecting to the internet. I've got a wireless card and router and all that jazz but I can't even select the options for wired or wireless connections under Network Connections in the Network Management Settings. Everything is greyed out except for VPN. I even have the desktop wired to the router and it still is not giving me any indication that it will connect.
I'm wary of trying to enter ip addresses and things of the like because I honestly don't know what i'm doing here.
My router is a Netgear N150 Wireless WNR1000 and in the Kinfocenter under Device Viewer I found my wireless card to be a RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11 g PCI and my wired device thingy to be an Intel 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
I have a mac and an openSUSE box connected wirelessly to a router. From my mac, if I ping the Linux machine by both ip address and hostname "elmo.local", I get a response. If I ping my mac from the Linux machine using its ip address, I get a response. However, if I ping the mac from the Linux box using its name "kermit.local" - nothing!
This means in order to share files between them via the network, I have to use the ip address rather than name, but I'd rather not. When I had Ubuntu installed instead of openSUSE this all worked fine out of the box, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the setup of openSUSE rather than the router or the mac.
How do I activate static DNS for mobile broadband. I can't find any place to write down this information. Settings are made in Network Manager - not Yast.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed freeswitch app from opensuse 11.2 repositories. App got broken during the process/setup.., I have removed it (yast) ignoring some of it's dependencies, also I have removed folder /opt/freeswitch manually. In Yast it shows that app is still installed.. when trying to remove it, there is an error, force remove also out puts an error. "whereis" command shows no file, I was also trying to force install it one more time but it fails. Is there a was to delete it permanently?

To provide with my goal:
1.) Learn about network setups on Linux
2.) Be able to maintain my own (virtual) network
3.) Configure my (virtual) network
I have several Windoz machines in a peer-to-peer network and now two SUSE machines, one 11.1 and another 11.2.I have a network printer accessible now to all the machines.My next step is to be able to share files between all the machines and several network drives. I know how to set this up between the Windoz machines, but the only way I can get the SUSE machines to see the network (and be seen) is to shut down their firewalls, and I don't think that's how you are supposed to do it?Can someone point me to what it is that I need to read, or is there a FAQ somewhere to help get me started?
I think that this has something to do with Samba and I installed Samba (client or server? I forget) on the 11.1 and 11.2 seems to have it already built-in, but I don't know how to set it up with the firewalls on the two Linux machines so that it is all seamless (as if anything can be seamless).
I only have one IP adress to access the server. But the server will host 3 web sites and I want them to be hosted in a vm. So, I want to setup 3 virtual machines to do it and use apache reverse proxy and vhosts to redirect the domain requested to the right vm. Now. I understand the concept, but I am not an expert to set that up....
I have an openSUSE 11.3 server. So, I have to set a virtual machine server, is that right? I have been told that I cannot do it with VMware server in oS 11.3. Can I use virtualbox for this? I only have to install virtual box? Is there a special version to install? Once the virtual machine server is install, is it trivial to create 3 vm? So, I want to know wich are the steps I have to take to set that up.
I used to have my print server with cups in openSUSE 11.1 and it used to work perfect. I was able to print from both linux machines and windows. But since I Installed openSUSE 11.2, I'm only able to print from linux machines. In windows XP I'am able to find the printer and install the drivers, and everything seems to work, but when I send the print command, it creates an error. I have three XP pcs that were running perfectly, and now neither one of them print, so I know is a problem with the server itself. I have all the samba and cups services activated, and the firewall is set correctly, but can't figure out why it is working with linux machines and not with windows.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have OpenSuse 11.3 with VirtualBox on it, and with installed Oracle DB (on host OS).. but, sometimes this computer is disconnected, without it's gateway (adsl router)... and in that case, I cannot ping from virtual OS to host OS, or another virtual OS. I tried to use 'Host only' option within VirtualBox, but it doesn't work. What should I do? It seems that virtual machines requires some kind of gateway/router, but since machine is disconnected, it's not working.. how could I fix it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my box setup as a router/NAT with two different network cards. One for external connection(connected to the Cable Modem) one for internal connection(used for internal DHCP). It works perfectly when I manually activate the two interfaces after booting(both interfaces always show up as inactive after booting), then the DHCP server and firewall. I am confused, however, by which program has control of these interfaces.
First, there is the Network Configuration (System->Administration->Network), which is where I manually start the interfaces after rebooting. Both interfaces are set to "Activate when computer starts" in here.
Second, Network Device control(System->Administration->Network Device Control), which looks to be almost the same thing as the above.
Third, the NetworkManager applet(on the top bar) - both devices show up as unmanaged when I left click on this, but if I set "Controlled by Network Manager" in the "Network configuration" window(number one above), It still does not work. Can I get rid of two of these programs, or is there some way to edit the startup scripts to start my ethernet cards before the dhcp server/firewall(which is shorewall BTW)?
does opensuse 11.2 come with IPv6 enabled by default? where in the gnome gui can i access these settings?
Edit-i went into the gnome network manager applet and i cant find any IPv6 settings for any of my used connections-ethernet, wireless and VPN connections all seem to only IPv4. Can anyone else confirm that opensuse 11.2 uses only IPv4 on its network connections?
My server SUSE 10.2. I am already working with one pppoe connection, I need to configure the second on the same server? How I do this?

Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).
I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:
I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.
I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?
I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!
