Ubuntu Networking :: Won't Connect To Network Unless Disable/enable?

Feb 7, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu in VMWare for a side project. I noticed when I boot up, it doesn't let me access anything externally. I have to disable network manager and re-enable it. Once done, I can hit everything fine. I'm using a static IP in network manager.

OpenSUSE Network :: Knetwork Manager: Enable/disable Wireless To Connect

Jan 28, 2010

I have a minor problem with Knetwork-manager. When I boot up, it won't connect to my wireless router automatically. I have to right-click the taskbar icon, disable wireless, then enable wireless, then it connects fine.It remembers the password fine and once it's connected, it's flawless. It's just the minor issue of having to effectively 'switch the internet on' rather than it just being connected when I turn on my laptop.

I'm using Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 (didn't have this issue with 11.1). I've tried the latest Kubuntu (9.10) and knetwork-manager worked flawlessly but I didn't like the rest of the OS so I came back to Opensuse If I restart, suspend or hibernate it usually connects okay, it just seems to be when I boot from 'cold'.

I've tried nm-applet but same problem. I also tried wicd but it didn't really like my system. I've changed my wireless router recently as well with no change, so I don't think it's that. As I say it's a minor problem, it's not really an issue for me to turn it on each time but it would be nice to clear it up. I've googled and searched since 11.2 was released but haven't found any answers and my linux skills are still a bit lacking.

Ubuntu :: Disable / Enable Networking Each Boot

Oct 13, 2010

I have a strange problem with my networking under Ubuntu. When I first log in to Gnome both my network adapters are listed as "disconnected" in the network manager applet. If I right click on the notification icon and disable networking, then wait a few seconds and re enable it, it works fine.

It's happening consistently with Maverick although it seemed only temperamental with Lucid. I did a fresh Maverick install to see if it would help but it hasn't.

It's the onboard network sockets on a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7. I have two ports but I only use one, it doesn't seem to matter which I use. It's connected via gigabit ethernet to a Netgear router. It works fine in Windows 7 (dual boot).

It looks as though something's not quite "ready" when gnome first launches. The light on the router for the cable is off at first, and only comes on after a few seconds. It's DHCP. Same thing happened on the live USB stick (just before the isntaller) and disable/reenable made it work.

Ubuntu Networking :: Must Disable Then Enable Networking For Wireless?

Jan 29, 2011

My wireless can connect to my router without a problem, but in order to do so (after boot) I must first disable networking in the Notification Area and then re-enable it. I don't mind it too much, but when other people use my computer, it's made painfully obvious to me, that this was never an issue with Windows 7 (as much as I despise MS).

I have checked all the firewall rules and they still allow the port and I have also checked to ensure that OpenVPN is still listening to the port, which it's not but I have tried restarting the service and the box which dosent make any difference. The only thing that has changed is that yesterday I installed Openfire, could this have broken something?

I tried sniffing the network with Wireshark, but I cannot understand why the TCP connection cannot be set up. I'm sure it's an Ubuntu problem as I'm able to connect to that server on the same machine, but different OS.

Ubuntu Networking :: Enable And Connect Mobile Broadband From Command Line Script?

Jul 27, 2010

I have a Sony TZ270N running Ubuntu 10.04 splendidly. The Sprint Mobile Broadband works great, but it's a bit cumbersome to activate. Specifically, to get it to work I need to:

echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/wwanpower
sleep 5
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/wwanpower

Then I wait another five seconds, right-click on the networking icon, choose "Enable mobile broadband", then left-click on the networking icon, and choose "Connect to Sprint Connection". I do this multiple times a day, and it's just a bit of a pain, especially when in a hurry. Accordingly, I'd like to script it so I can do the whole thing with a single command.

I've already put the above echo statements into a script and it works great; is there any way to script the actual start of the PPP session itself -- with the caveat that I'd like the networking icon to accurately reflect the latest state?

(In other words, I don't want to bypass the networking icon and just launch the PPP session in the background -- I want it to show that I'm connected, and still let me manage the connection via the icon after connected.)

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Enable Wireless Network In 10.10

I have an Averatec 3200 laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card. When I click on Network Connections, it says wireless is disabled. I checked my /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state file, and it said "wireless enabled=false" so I changed it to true.

It just goes back to false on reboot. I also ran rfkill unblock all, but rfkill list still shows that there is a hardware block on. The driver for this wireless card shows that it is installed. I'm not sure what to try next!I just bought this computer used, and freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 on it, so can't say if it worked in any other distro.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Will Not Auto-connect To New Network After Resume?

Jul 1, 2010

I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. It would not connect to the school network unless I explicitly told it to.irst, I'll describe the fix. If you're having this problem, you can this. Copy the following:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
case "$1" in
