I have just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my brother's Toshiba Satellite Pro L500 and have spent all day trying to get the wireless to work.
the laptop does not have a physical wifi-switch (it should switch on-off with Fn+F8, which doesn't work), the drivers seem to be installed, but I cannot 'enable wireless', and I found that it is 'Hard blocked':
sudo rfkill list all :
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes
but 'rfkill unblock all' does nothing.

I went through several posts for making the Toshiba wireless working. None of them seemed to work. The Fn+F8 key is also not working, as with many other ppl here is output for sudo lshw -C network
Code:
neeraj@ubuntu:~$ sudo lshw -C network

I have an issue with my keyboard not being picked up in Ubuntu and I went to go ahead and boot into the factory recovery partition to start from scratch, but after it gives me a ramdisk loading bar, then goes to a black screen with a mouse like the recovery will start, then the computer just restarts. Now, I can boot into Ubuntu (but no keyboard) and boot into XP (as I am now) but I can't get the recovery partition to boot.My current station is out in timbuctu, so I am awaiting the arrival of a flash drive to load a LiveCD onto to use Gparted for any potential solutions.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried using UNetbootin to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Toshiba NB205 and am having no luck. Both it and Kubuntu NR will boot from live USB and seemingly install successfully, but when I select the Ubuntu option, it hangs and drops me down to BusyBox with initramfs.
When UNR was distributed as a .img file, I could use Canonical's USB image .exe to prepare the USB drive and it always worked like a charm, but now UNetbootin fails me all too often. I don't really have access to another Ubuntu box to run usb-creator with, so has anyone had any success with any other install method? I am dual booting with Windows 7.
I have a question on how to enable wireless on a toshiba tecra A9.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Averatec 3200 laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card. When I click on Network Connections, it says wireless is disabled. I checked my /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state file, and it said "wireless enabled=false" so I changed it to true.
It just goes back to false on reboot. I also ran rfkill unblock all, but rfkill list still shows that there is a hardware block on. The driver for this wireless card shows that it is installed. I'm not sure what to try next!I just bought this computer used, and freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 on it, so can't say if it worked in any other distro.
I recently installed Fedora on an old computer of mine that I pulled out of storage, and I can not get it to detect my wireless network. Previously it was running Windows XP and I was able to get it to connect, but now that I'm on Fedora it doesn't even detect my network. I tried lspci and lsusb but I didn't find anything under network, only Ethernet showing my linksys. I know I must have a wireless chipset, but nothing will show.
I also attempted to yum install ndiswrapper because another thread with a similar problem suggested this, and when it prompted me for my password it wouldn't let me type. How would I go about fixing this?
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and for a while I had no problems connecting to the internet through the wireless network. But recently, my wireless connection started disconnecting regularly. Following an advice I found online, I installed linux-backports-modules-karmic, but after a reboot the wireless device stopped working altogether - it had lost its driver. Since then I managed to associate the device with Broadcom's STA driver, which I had been using before. But now, the wireless device cannot connect to the internet anymore. The network manager's output to /var/log/syslog indicates that the device cannot obtain an IP address. When I run code...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

getting the wireless chipset (Realtek 8176) to work, but finally got the WLAN to show up. Now, it seems as though it will recognize my WLAN and SSID, ask for my WPA password, but never connect. I connect fine over wired ethernet. It will not connect wirelessly to an unsecured network either. I previously had Jolicloud installed on my netbook, and my wireless worked out of the box with no setup, but I really didn't like the lack of application support with Jolicloud. I ended up in dependency hell just trying to update Banshee for use with my iPod.

I recently bought a Toshiba Portege R835 and wanted to install Ubuntu on it. I wasn't too surprised that the wireless wasn't working, but what does bother me is that Ubuntu doesn't even recognize that I have a wireless card. I haven't installed Ubuntu you (10.04) because of this, however I am able to get online through a wired connection.

I've been having a lot of trouble connecting to my Wireless Router. It worked fine when I had XP on it, so it's not the actual inbuilt WLAN. I put in the correct password, it's MAC address is registered on the router, yet it will constantly query me for a password despite it being put in correctly. I've tried searching the forums for any similar issues, and their concurrent fixes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a toshiba a15 s127. it didn't have a wireless card so i ordered one and installed it myself. however, my computer is not seeing the wireless card and i don't know what driver i need because the card itself didn't come to me in a box, so i am not sure what brand it is. All i know is that it is an original part.
On another note, when i go to network settings and try to config my wireless settings, i do not know what number to put in the BSSID field. (thinking i use the wireless card's MAC address, but ?) and don't know if i use the wireless card's MAC adress or the wireless router's MAC address or the Modem's MAC address in the actual field for the MAC address. ( i know, i know, i sound totally clueless--well, i am!) {note: the wired network works fine.}
How do i get my computer to see the wireless card and how do i configure my computer once it does see the card?
After hours of searching and trying different methods I am still unable to get my wireless going.. I have tried the PPA method from Chilli and looked through craneman's thread. I have installed the proper realtek driver and done modprobe for the device to no avail. In Additional drivers nothing shows except for my ATI drivers.

I have my laptop dual booted between Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In Ubuntu I randomly lose connection to the wireless network. It always works fine when I first boot into Ubuntu but after a while my wireless connection will go down. The signal strength meter will go to zero bars and the black popup message will appear that my wireless connection has disconnected. At first, if I just wait a bit, the connection will come back. However, after about 4 or 5 times of doing this it will then ask me for my password, and inputting the password does not reconnect me to the AP. I am finally forced to reboot. Then it works OK for a while again and the cycle repeats.
It works fine in Windows7 all day, every day. I have the Release Candidate of Windows7 so it's going to expire soon. I would really prefer to make Ubuntu my everyday OS on this laptop rather than pay for a Windows7 license but I cannot tolerate a flaky wireless connection.
I had 8.1 on this laptop at one point and I never had any problems with the wireless then, that I can remember. I had no Ubuntu for a while but then I came back with the 9.1 and was loving it until the wireless problem reared it's ugly head.

I cant seem to understand what happens to my wifi networking, i just installed ubuntu 10.10 today (completely erasing windows) on my toshiba satellite m645. Seems like my wireless card (the specs say its intel 802.11a/g/n wireless LAN) will only randomly detect the available networks or will connect only for a few seconds just after i just turned it on, then it will disconnect.

The Network card sees the Wireless network, but will not connect to the router. I have tried with and without security, and neither setting makes any difference. Using the Wired Network adapter does work when set to a STATIC IP.
I have fedora 13 installed in my laptop lenovo G450.
Inside the file networking-scripts I can find the ifcfg-wlan0.
But it can't find any SSID when I scan the network.
I tried operating manually also.
But it can't be connected to any network.
The wireless device is also powered on.
But I am not able to connect to the wireless network.
I need to setup a network. Wireless. There is a toshiba A100 satelite with Kubuntu 10.10/win7 a desktop win7 and a desktop ubuntu 10.10/win 7. I just cannot figure out how to make all these pcs communicate, regardless of te OS. (on win7 they all work fine)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a minor problem with Knetwork-manager. When I boot up, it won't connect to my wireless router automatically. I have to right-click the taskbar icon, disable wireless, then enable wireless, then it connects fine.It remembers the password fine and once it's connected, it's flawless. It's just the minor issue of having to effectively 'switch the internet on' rather than it just being connected when I turn on my laptop.
I'm using Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 (didn't have this issue with 11.1). I've tried the latest Kubuntu (9.10) and knetwork-manager worked flawlessly but I didn't like the rest of the OS so I came back to Opensuse If I restart, suspend or hibernate it usually connects okay, it just seems to be when I boot from 'cold'.
I've tried nm-applet but same problem. I also tried wicd but it didn't really like my system. I've changed my wireless router recently as well with no change, so I don't think it's that. As I say it's a minor problem, it's not really an issue for me to turn it on each time but it would be nice to clear it up. I've googled and searched since 11.2 was released but haven't found any answers and my linux skills are still a bit lacking.

I just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."
I've been experiencing a problem with Fedora in which when I enable Wireless in Fedora, Wireless networking does not work in windows. HOwever, when disabled, it works correctly. Windows claims it is "not able to find any networks to connect to"
EDIT: It seems that when wireless is disabled manually on fedora before shutdown, there are no problems in windows.
