OpenSUSE Network :: Enable IP Forwarding While NetworkManager Handle Internet Connections?

Jan 30, 2011

I want to share my WiFi internet connection over LAN, so I'm trying to set up IP forwarding. An old tutorial tells me to go to Network Settings in YaST to do this, but that applet says that NetworkManager is now handling all of that stuff. How do I enable IP forwarding while NetworkManager handles my internet connections?

OpenSUSE Network :: Router With 2 DSL Connections Not Port Forwarding?

Problem: suse firewall will only port forward connections from one of the DSL connections and not the other.

Because I'm running two DSL connections is there something special I have to turn on/enable on the firewall?

OpenSUSE Network :: No Internet After Install Of 11.4 Network Connections Fine

Mar 12, 2011

I have no Internet Access with Firefox

I first tried an upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and lost Internet Access, so i re-loaded 11.4 from scratch on clean partitions.

I am connected to my wireless WPA2/PSK connection, have an IP, am able to see the network.

I turned off and disabled the SUSE firewall.

I tried setting Firefox proxy settings to auto and to none, i dont use proxy.

I am currently posting this through an SSH connection to my 11.1 server from the new install of 11.4 on a Dell latitude D600 laptop (not using the on-board Broadcomm that is an issue for a later date).

I am running out of ideas anyone got a clue.

Networking :: Re-enable Network Access By Restarting NetworkManager?

Jun 12, 2009

Ubuntu desktop 9.04 Whenever I try to copy files to any machine on the network, the transfer stops and I no longer have access to the network or the internet. This happens whether I'm doing scp, copy with the gui, when copying to windows machines, and when uploading database files with phpmyadmin. I have been able to successfully transfer large amounts of data outside of the network via ftp, but not to any on the network. I've discovered that I can re-enable network access by restarting NetworkManager.

I 've been googling for a few hours, and found a lot of threads that point to gvfs, to samba and to rebooting and reinstalling. Rebooting I did, reinstalling is not possible, the gvfs thing is very unclear. There was an Em on the command line when starting Nautilus: "share extensions disabled", I got rid of that by uninstalling nautilus-share-extensions. OpenSUSE Network :: NFS Stale File Handle

Jan 20, 2011

I currently have a home network setup so that my main machine shares it's external hard-drive via NFS. This has been working perfectly for months, however I just got a new laptop, installed openSuse 11.3 x64 and set everything up. Now there is two folders on the external network mount that won't let me do anything and always just return Networking: Stale NFS File Handle. The system still works fine under my old openSUSE 11.2 x86 laptop. I have tried unmounting the drive from the laptop, restarting the NFS client, and restarting the NFS server on the main machine. None of these have made a difference.

It is only these two folders that are effected. Everything else works just fine.

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Start NetworkManager

Jan 26, 2011

I seem to have somehow messed up my repositories and now NetworkManager isn't working.

I have two errors happening, which I'm sure are related. First of all, when I try to load knetworkmanager, I get the error:

Code:
knetworkmanager: error while loading shared libraries: libkminterminals.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Second of all, when I restart my computer, upon loading I get a message from Akondi Server Self-Test saying several databases failed. I've never seen this before, so I think fixing these errors would be best? Some of the errors are MySql failed, akondi not registered at dbus, etc.

Lastly, I don't have a wired connection so currently my machine has no internet. I'm using a second laptop to get necessary files and I transfer them with usb.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Vpnc Does Not Handle Split Horizon Properly

Dec 30, 2009

I WAS using opensuse 11.1 with gnome networkmanager and vpnc. I am NOW using opensuse 11.2 with gnome networkmanager and vpnc. When vpn concentrators are configured, they are configured with 'split horizons' (or not). If not, a default route is required from the client to pass ALL client traffic through the vpn connection. (when the connection is established, the vpn client replaces the default route on the client machine to point to the host site) If 'split horizons' is enabled, only the traffic bound for the host site is passed through the vpn connection.

What I have noticed, is since I installed 11.2, the vpn client is NOT enabling split horizon on connections that call for it. In stead, it is putting in a default gateway every time. This is a big problem, because for those sites that are configured for split horizon, doing this means that no Internet traffic will pass unless you manually adjust the route table.

After searching around for a while, I found this topic [URL] ssh-x11-forwarding.html which at the end mentions enabling ip6. Magically, after doing that and rebooting I can now do X11 forwarding again. Just seems strange that IP6 is needed for X11 forwarding.

OpenSUSE Network :: Disable Connection In Networkmanager?

I tried to figure out how to disable the wired connection, but eventually gave up and just pulled the wired network plug.

But surely, there must be a way to disable connections from Networkmanager?

Checking/unchecking the checkbox does nothing. All settings in Yast are OK.To make it work, run "/etc/init.d/network restart" and then plug in the wire OR (in case of wireless connection) I restart network from console, unchecck and check the checkbox in networkmanager and only then it starts to work as it should.

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Connections Didn't Have Connection

Jan 14, 2011

I just finished a fresh install of 11.3 on an HP 7900 small form factor and have no network connectivity. In Network Tools eth0 shows the state as inactive. Network Connections didn't have a connection, so after letting it create one there is no MAC address. I copied and pasted the MAC address from Network Connections eth0, set up a static address with default gateway, netmask, etc. all set appropriately and rebooted. Still no joy.

I want this to get an address via DHCP, I just set up a static address for testing.11.2 sensed the NIC without issue, but 11.3 doesn't seem to like me right now.I wanted to get this deployed on 40 machines today. Oh well.
