I am using OpenSuse 11.3 and Network Manager is giving me a headache by not connecting to WEP based wi-fi network.It works in a wi-fi at my office while at my home, it shows / detects the network but keeps asking me over and over.

I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a minor problem with Knetwork-manager. When I boot up, it won't connect to my wireless router automatically. I have to right-click the taskbar icon, disable wireless, then enable wireless, then it connects fine.It remembers the password fine and once it's connected, it's flawless. It's just the minor issue of having to effectively 'switch the internet on' rather than it just being connected when I turn on my laptop.
I'm using Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 (didn't have this issue with 11.1). I've tried the latest Kubuntu (9.10) and knetwork-manager worked flawlessly but I didn't like the rest of the OS so I came back to Opensuse If I restart, suspend or hibernate it usually connects okay, it just seems to be when I boot from 'cold'.
I've tried nm-applet but same problem. I also tried wicd but it didn't really like my system. I've changed my wireless router recently as well with no change, so I don't think it's that. As I say it's a minor problem, it's not really an issue for me to turn it on each time but it would be nice to clear it up. I've googled and searched since 11.2 was released but haven't found any answers and my linux skills are still a bit lacking.
I did a fresh install,I also enable the networkmanager.after installation,my wireless unable to connect to my router . when I click to connect , it prompt for password then after that nothing happen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reported recently that I have a problem connecting to a Windows network, and someone suggested upgrading to Ubuntu 10.4 I have done, and still have the problem.
The error message I get is: "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server".
I have fedora 13 installed in my laptop lenovo G450.
Inside the file networking-scripts I can find the ifcfg-wlan0.
But it can't find any SSID when I scan the network.
I tried operating manually also.
But it can't be connected to any network.
The wireless device is also powered on.
But I am not able to connect to the wireless network.
After installing 11.4, I need to type in the command to update the firmware for a broadcom wifi adapter. Then I needed to reboot, twice, before the system knew to use the adapter (where the adapter wifi light goes from orange to blue).
Then I needed to add my wireless network and type in my key. But the key does not take. If I click on my wireless network icon, it just re-asks for the key and does not connect nor give any other message. Network icon continues to display no connection.
So I need to reboot again.
When the system starts again, the adapter is blue, I click on the icon for my wifi network and it connects without asking for my key and I can then set to start my wifi by default.
Now my wifi works fine.
All settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."
I am using Belkin router and i connect with MAC ID only. When i connect with my Vista it works properly but when i reboot and try to connect with Ubuntu it's not connecting.
I looked for my Ubuntu mac id and i added that also but no use. It says it's connected and when i try to google it, the page not found

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed 11.04 ubuntu 2 days ago. I have had thousands issues trying to connect to my wireless network router dlink di524. My wireless card is a dlink dwl g122 ver c1. I can't connect to the network no matter what configuration I try.
- first time i tried to connect i had static ip settled on my router so I tried to configure Network manager from GUI. I couldn't connect; it kept trying to connect forever. so I completely removed from terminal NM (using guides on internet) e installed wicd: same problem. Tried to configure manually network/interfaces file. Didn't work. Reset router and set dhcp . Tried everything again first with NM and then wicd. Didn't solve. Reinstalled ubuntu, fearing I messed up with some configuration files and reset again router. No solution
Tried pinguy os, zorin e linux mint . Nope Borrowed a network card from a friend after reading dlink dwl g122 could have some issues with linux. Tried this realtek card : same problems as above. I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavilion dv5. My laptop has a Broadcom 4312 wireless adapter. The driver for the adapter was installed by Ubuntu as a proprietary driver. The wireless light is on and I can see the available networks, but I am unable to connect to my network. The correct authorization is set(WPA/WPA2) and I have entered the passphrase correctly.
I am able to connect to the wireless network successfully from my Windows login(that is how I confirmed that the passphrase is accurate). The network shows that it is trying to connect, but the wireless authentication dialog(asking for the passphrase) keeps popping up. Incidentally, the same thing happened when I tried openSuSe and Fedora on a spare laptop. The windows systems can connect, but not the Linux systems.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I am unable to connect to wireless networks. I have a fresh installation of Ubuntu 8.04. I have installed Ndiswrapper (ndiswrapper-utils_1.8-0ubuntu2_i386.deb) and the GUI for ndiswrapper. The ndiwrapper GUI reports that the hardware was not found. I installed Wubi Ubuntu to try it out, and it all worked perfectly accept no wireless networks, not even nextdoors were listed.

Currently I'm having trouble connecting to the guest wireless network at my work. I've read through a couple threads that seem similar to my problem. I tried going through the terminal window and following the instructions that was offered to others. I'm just wondering if my hardware is different, if I need drivers, if my permissions aren't correct.
1. I recently received a Sony Vaio laptop model # VGN-FE770G from a friend, and I'm enjoying running Ubuntu.
2. I followed another thread that suggested to change some lines in /etc/network/interfaces, but I don't have permission to edit this file. I don't really have the need to set up multiple users on my laptop, so how can I change my permissions to root? (Or is it a good idea even?) Should I log in as root?
3. How can I set my laptop up to be flexible with network selections, using hardware: (built-in camera and microphone for example), and useful applications?

I was told by an experienced Linux user/IT professional that older Broadcom wireless cards had embedded code preventing access through non-Windows OS's. I was told that there were drivers that were basically "hacks" for skirting this issue. I've tried two different drivers and neither seems to be doing the trick. My current driver is the "Broadcom STA wireless driver".

On Opensuse 11.2, I would like to connect my ipod touch to a wireless ad-hoc network of my laptop. I have no wireless WIFI-router at home, so I have to use the laptop as a router to the internet. I know I have to enter a static IP adres and my router's address, but where ? I haven't found any place under network tools to do this, only saw some fields with SSID's and MAC addresses to fill in.

My network is:
- non-broadcast
- WPA2 Personal
- G
The netbook is fairly recent from Asus and wireless works perfectly with Fedora 11 and Windows XP.
I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.
