Nov 16, 2010I reported recently that I have a problem connecting to a Windows network, and someone suggested upgrading to Ubuntu 10.4 I have done, and still have the problem.
The error message I get is: "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server".

Mar 5, 2011I'm running ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop.Wireless networks appear on the dropdown menu but when I try to connect to my home network the authentication box appears, after typing my password the box disappears and it continues to connect but nothing happens and after a while the authentication box appears again. So.. no internetz connected.

Jul 27, 2010I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

Mar 6, 2010I am using Belkin router and i connect with MAC ID only. When i connect with my Vista it works properly but when i reboot and try to connect with Ubuntu it's not connecting.
I looked for my Ubuntu mac id and i added that also but no use. It says it's connected and when i try to google it, the page not found

It all went fine, my wireless light came on and it detected my wireless network. I know my WPA2 code (I can connect on the same computer in windows 7) and my keyring code. but I still can't connect it whirs away for quite a while before giving up and saying not connected.[Code]....

Jul 16, 2011I installed 11.04 ubuntu 2 days ago. I have had thousands issues trying to connect to my wireless network router dlink di524. My wireless card is a dlink dwl g122 ver c1. I can't connect to the network no matter what configuration I try.
- first time i tried to connect i had static ip settled on my router so I tried to configure Network manager from GUI. I couldn't connect; it kept trying to connect forever. so I completely removed from terminal NM (using guides on internet) e installed wicd: same problem. Tried to configure manually network/interfaces file. Didn't work. Reset router and set dhcp . Tried everything again first with NM and then wicd. Didn't solve. Reinstalled ubuntu, fearing I messed up with some configuration files and reset again router. No solution
Tried pinguy os, zorin e linux mint . Nope Borrowed a network card from a friend after reading dlink dwl g122 could have some issues with linux. Tried this realtek card : same problems as above. Finally I tried again after the fifth reinstallation of ubuntu. Both NM and wicd keep saying wrong password. Changed different password. Password is fine of course (i'm using it now with win) So I Reset router password to none. Now it says: "acquiring ip address" and keep saying that forever. So i tried the last attempt: I tried to connect from zorin5 live to the same wifi network.. Ok so I happily reinstalled everything again (zorin5). first access after installation: same problems as above
Now I'm using win7 on the same wifi network, router, and same card (cards) and everything works fine at first attempt.

I have installed Ndiswrapper (ndiswrapper-utils_1.8-0ubuntu2_i386.deb) and the GUI for ndiswrapper. The ndiwrapper GUI reports that the hardware was not found. Yet I am able to connect to the wlan using Windows.

Oct 13, 2010I have Windows XP with a gigaset adapter which connects to wirelessly to a Belkin router. I'm with Virgin Media.
I installed Wubi Ubuntu to try it out, and it all worked perfectly accept no wireless networks, not even nextdoors were listed.
It's enabled but it says it's disconnected. I have no idea what to do.
Is it recognizing my adapter?

I have no network connection. I have tried downloading packages for nm onto a usb stick only to find myself in dependency hell which ended with the impassible error "Requires installation of untrusted packages".

Jul 14, 2011Currently I'm having trouble connecting to the guest wireless network at my work. I've read through a couple threads that seem similar to my problem. I tried going through the terminal window and following the instructions that was offered to others. I'm just wondering if my hardware is different, if I need drivers, if my permissions aren't correct.
1. I recently received a Sony Vaio laptop model # VGN-FE770G from a friend, and I'm enjoying running Ubuntu.
2. I followed another thread that suggested to change some lines in /etc/network/interfaces, but I don't have permission to edit this file. I don't really have the need to set up multiple users on my laptop, so how can I change my permissions to root? (Or is it a good idea even?) Should I log in as root?
3. How can I set my laptop up to be flexible with network selections, using hardware: (built-in camera and microphone for example), and useful applications?
I ran "ifconfig -a" and this is what I got.

Apr 4, 2010I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

Jan 28, 2010I have a minor problem with Knetwork-manager. When I boot up, it won't connect to my wireless router automatically. I have to right-click the taskbar icon, disable wireless, then enable wireless, then it connects fine.It remembers the password fine and once it's connected, it's flawless. It's just the minor issue of having to effectively 'switch the internet on' rather than it just being connected when I turn on my laptop.
I'm using Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 (didn't have this issue with 11.1). I've tried the latest Kubuntu (9.10) and knetwork-manager worked flawlessly but I didn't like the rest of the OS so I came back to Opensuse If I restart, suspend or hibernate it usually connects okay, it just seems to be when I boot from 'cold'.
I've tried nm-applet but same problem. I also tried wicd but it didn't really like my system. I've changed my wireless router recently as well with no change, so I don't think it's that. As I say it's a minor problem, it's not really an issue for me to turn it on each time but it would be nice to clear it up. I've googled and searched since 11.2 was released but haven't found any answers and my linux skills are still a bit lacking.

Mar 22, 2011I have setup an OpenVPN server on my server box, it had been working perfectly until today. It operates on port 1194 which I am now unable to connect to (tried telnet). I have checked all the firewall rules and they still allow the port and I have also checked to ensure that OpenVPN is still listening to the port, which it's not but I have tried restarting the service and the box which dosent make any difference. The only thing that has changed is that yesterday I installed Openfire, could this have broken something?

But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.

When I try to SSH, I get this code...
When I reboot to Windows, I can SSH using Cygwin. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and OpenSSH client 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu6.
I tried sniffing the network with Wireshark, but I cannot understand why the TCP connection cannot be set up. I'm sure it's an Ubuntu problem as I'm able to connect to that server on the same machine, but different OS.

May 25, 2011I have an Averatec 3200 laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card. When I click on Network Connections, it says wireless is disabled. I checked my /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state file, and it said "wireless enabled=false" so I changed it to true.
It just goes back to false on reboot. I also ran rfkill unblock all, but rfkill list still shows that there is a hardware block on. The driver for this wireless card shows that it is installed. I'm not sure what to try next!I just bought this computer used, and freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 on it, so can't say if it worked in any other distro.

Oct 5, 2010I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavilion dv5. My laptop has a Broadcom 4312 wireless adapter. The driver for the adapter was installed by Ubuntu as a proprietary driver. The wireless light is on and I can see the available networks, but I am unable to connect to my network. The correct authorization is set(WPA/WPA2) and I have entered the passphrase correctly.
I am able to connect to the wireless network successfully from my Windows login(that is how I confirmed that the passphrase is accurate). The network shows that it is trying to connect, but the wireless authentication dialog(asking for the passphrase) keeps popping up. Incidentally, the same thing happened when I tried openSuSe and Fedora on a spare laptop. The windows systems can connect, but not the Linux systems.
