how nepomuk is supposed to work on opensuse 11.4 KDE? My nepomuk is active but it always says in "systemsettings" that 0 files are indexed. When I do a search via Dolphin, it never finds a file. It doesn't matter if I select "from here" or "everywhere". I also tried to select the root dir '/' to look for files to index, but still nepomuk says 0 files are indexed and dolphin finds nothing.
View 6 RepliesIs there really no way of having with a GUI an indexed file search by filename (not contents etc) which gives a detailed list? Great big icons as a "result" is no good to me, I want "details" that I can then click on to either open or copy etc. I tried the totally useless "Tracker" and Zeitgeist in my 11.04 is no better. There is a fantastic product in the win environment called everything.exe which does exactly what I want. I cannot be alone in this type of requirement. It has to have a GUI.

I've had opensuse 11.2 for a long time and I've never seen this nepomuk thing run before. But all of a sudden on startup just now, I got a message that it was running. Why? What is this and should I be worried? Why have I never seen it before?

I now have a persistent notification "Nepomuk was not able to find the configured database backend 'redland' ... what it means. System seems to be working but desktop icons have grey vertical rectangular box when selected. No objects to select in the boxes though. Previous version had tools available as I recall.

I am familiar with slackware's slocate.What slocate doesn't have is an option to limit returned results from specific users or groups.What's more I can't seem to find a gui/web frontend so that people without knowledge of cli can benefit from the slocate's indexed search.So I turn to you all, is there another tool, that supports per user/group searching and a web (preferably) frontend?(clarification) i think slocate returns results related to the user running the search (files that he owns as well as files that are owned by his primary and other groups). Is that correct? I basically want a search user (who will be a member of the several groups that our office is structured like) to get results by giving as search criteria not only the filename, but also the owner of the file and / or the group

I need some help desperately. I am trying to install Series 7 for Dummies on Zorin OS 4. I was able to get Wine to recognize the program by copying the .exe files from the CD to the hard drive as the CD installation directly wasn't working. Now however the prompted Series 7 installation window that asks you to "Accept" or "Decline" will not move when I click "Accept". How can I resolve this? I am thinking it has something to do with either Java or Flash since this is an interactive program where multiple-choice questions are answered by clicking on them.

Whenever I boot up ubuntu, virtuoso-t, nepomukserver and 8 instances of a nepomukservices process run, and these DO really slow my system a lot, giving slow response of GUI apps etc... I tried asking before, but nobody knew. I'd like to keep trying: How can I get rid of these processes. What starts them up? I want to remove the command that starts them from which ever config file it is.
NOTE: disabling the desktop search setting in KDE settings does NOT disable these 10 executables that slow down your system. Going to KDE control center and disabling nepomuk there isn't the answer. I'd like to know the config file

I don't know what program Nepomuk came with. I thought I got rid of it but this keeps popping up on startup [picture attached].

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've already been through all the KDE documentation, and they're outdated when it comes to Akonadi and Nepomuk in Natty.
I've disabled Desktop Search in System Settings, which is supposed to disable Nepomuk. For some reason, nepomukserver and akonadiserver along with about twelve other memory-sucking processes autostart and have to be manually killed after my upgrade to Natty.
I can't simply remove all packages that contain akonadi in the name; one of its dependencies is kubuntu-desktop, which would suck to remove.
I'm not using any of the KDE PIM components (I already removed Kontact, KOrganizer, KMail, Kopete) but some akonadi tasks (~15-20) are always running in the background.How can I get rid of akonadi and nepomuk completely without removing the actual KDE desktop?

how one can use the nepomuk/strigi file indexing service. I started up dolphin, and typed the search string in the upper right corner, and clicked Search. The search result is a long list of files. I've discovered that Dolphin seems to lose random files when copying many large folders.
I first noticed this a few months ago when I tried to copy my music library from one folder to another on the same HDD. It consisted of around 600 folders and 6500 files. During the copy there were no errors but after the copy I found that some of the newly copied folders were missing files. I put it down to human error or a glitch.
Yesterday I tried to copy 13 folders containing rips of some of my DVDs. Each folder basically had one film of either 700MB or 1.4GB. Again no errors showed up during the copy but I found 3 of the newly copied folders were empty.
It's not so critical with music or films but I can't afford to lose work data like this.
Has anyone experienced or seen a similar problem with Dolphin? I'm going to have to do some more extensive testing but this is not good.
The first time I noticed the problem I was running KDE4.3.4 (I think) and now the latest was with KDE4.4.0.
I noticed in my system that my root partition is getting full. I found a lot of old compacted syslogfiles. Had a look at etc/sysconfig editor eg cron but could not find a setting which allows to delete files older than a month. Where and how could I influence this ? I deleted manually all syslog files older than a month. Approx 6GB

View 8 Replies View RelatedI get a SD card. Put in the SD reader. It's empty. I go to my super-important-pictures-to-a-monthly-relatory folder and select all files. Select them for MOVE. Paste them on the SD card. When the move/paste process is finished, i click on the "Eject" button on top of the SD card name. Card's ejected. I can't access the card anymore. I take out the card and put on my other computer. From 300 pictures, there are only 10 available, the remaining ones are there, but with 0bytes and unrecoveable. I panic. I go back to my main computer, my pictures are not there anymore. The pictures were on the Home folder. I panic again. I reset the computer and boot on the LiveCD. I install foremost, scalpel, photorec and about everything till my USB drive complains about being filled up. I run everything and I can't recover my files. I'm in the danger of getting fired. Things like that makes Windows sounds more appealing. When you securely remove a pendrive, things get REALLY pasted there before screwing everything up with a removal.
