View 6 Replies View RelatedEDIT: I finally figured out how to do it - xbacklight -dec 10 lowers, xbacklight +inc 10 increaces. I'll use ubuntu tweak to get the shortcuts. I got my self a new lappy, and Acer Aspire One 751h-1948. After that, I installed Ubuntu Karmic on that, while leaving a 20GB XP partition. I configured it's Intel GMA500 Poulsbo video card, so now I can use it at the native 1366x768 res. Most of my fn keys work, other than one very important one, and here lies my problem; The brightness keys dont work(fn+left/right arrow). I've searched the net for a long time, but I still can't find a solution that works with karmic - perhaps i should downgrade?
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou maybe know that VirtualBox has an "immutable" feature for HDD images. I.e. setup the system, if the stuff is in place, you can set the image to IMMUTABLE to prevent any changes to the image. Differences are written to a separated image. So on the next boot you'll see that all the (unintended) changes are gone and the "old" system is up & running again. I run an old SuSE 10.3 on a write-protected SD-IDE-Adapter. Changing and playing with RPMs is a mess due to around 50 changes I had to do to make that work. Is there any option to mount an SD-card as RO and having all the changes written to e.g. /dev/sda3? To make it clear: I thought about something like a RAID-X system, but could not find any description on how to setup a raidtab.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm currently on vacation, and noted that the kdenlive version on my laptop (running 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 with KDE-4.4.4) will crash when loading a kdenlive file that has an audio track previously saved.
ie one can no longer reload a project, after saving it, if one has an audio track in the project.
I note my desktop (just before I went on vacation) did not have this behaviour. Has anyone else encountered this?
When I get back from vacation, I'll compare the packages between the two (ie between laptop and desktop). I note these packages on my laptop, which may or may not be relevant.

I have just installed OS 11.3 onto a lenovo desktop / Thinkcentre that previously had vista installed on it. With Opensuse I am having trouble getting much sound volume. With Vista the volume was fine but with Opensuse I have PCM, Master running pretty much on full. This gives me a respectable volume but I think there should really be more left in the tank from what I have it at. Is there any way to increase the gain in Alsa? The sound device shows in KDE as HDA Intel (AD198x) using xine backend.

Well I have been trying to view some flash videos on the net and apparantly need to update my flash player. So I go to the Adobe page and download the YUM for Linux. It says it's installed, but I still can't view flash videos.
I was using a basic web cam, these are the specs on it equipped with an SD Drive and in order to see the contents of the SD drive, I would just have to switch the camera to MSDC in order for openSUSE 11.4 to load the SD drive on the camera. Well, for whatever reason, it stopped working! Just want to know if I did something wrong. This is the spec of the camera from the USB app.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed ubuntu so I'm quite lost on some stuff. This little annoyance comes from the volume levels in Ubuntu 10.04. I have partitioned my computer to have dual boot into windows and ubuntu, so I know the problems are not related to the hardware itself as everything works just fine in windows. I am using a Dell Inspiron 9400, for reference.
The multimedia keys on the computer respond correctly but on the lower three volume settings sound completely drops out as if I had muted the computer. I went into the Alsa mixer to see if I could configure these sound levels and sure enough the master volume was down to zero, PCM and LFE are also low . I changed the settings of the lower levels but when I press on the volume up or down media keys to switch level the settings get reset. I tried just changing one level, exiting and saving through alsactl but it didn't stick. Even after reboot the settings are back to the zero volume on the first levels.
I have a minimal debian install, with not much more than enough to run scrotwm, I want to change the basic arrow cursor to a png I have. Is there a simpler lower level way of achieving this without having to install and modify an existing cursor theme. I installed x11-apps just to get xcursorgen... though idk if this has been an essential step or not. Anyway, I have run it on my arrow.png/arrow.cursor to create a "default" cursor file... though am lost as to where to go from there. I have no idea where the existing default cursor is located, though i suspect it's a font cursor not a icon cursor...

I've recently got a HDTV LCD display (BenQ SD3742), and a nettop (Acer revo 3610) to go with it. I connected them using an HDMI cable, and I installed the latest Ubuntu 10.04 64 bits edition.I then installed the latest nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package, which is nvidia-glx-195) to support nVidia ION platform using this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppaAccording to various websites, my LCD is FullHD, so I should be able to select 1920x1080 resolution. But the automatically selected resolution is 1280x768, and in nVidia configuration panel, this resolution is stated as being "native resolution" for my screen (its name is correctly detected by Ubuntu, by the way!).If I select 1920x1080 and "Apply", the resolution is changed but the borders of my desktop are not available... and the image looks deformed anyway.Is there any way to make Ubuntu to detect properly this LCD display in its real native resolution (FullHD, 1920x1080)?

I am currently running openSUSE 11.4 w/ Gnome 3.I wound up installing Adobe Digital Editions using Wine.Got everything working, except I ended up installing it twice (once as root and once as myself.Currently in my "Applications" I show 2 Adobe Digital Editions.I have ran wine uninstaller as both myself and as root, and the icons are still in the Applications window.I am not sure who is to blame and what I should try to access to rm these icons.

when I start up ubuntu (10.10) and reach the desktop, the screen is messed up. The center of the screen becomes blurry, and it looks like what is normally the right part of the screen is duplicated in the middle of the screen (with what should be the middle of the screen disappearing).
I think its an ATI video card, and I tried to install different driver from Softwarecenter but no succes.I know the screen is working, because when I boot forinstance, the Ibm logo is showed nicely across the screen. So its not a hardware issue. Another thing, I got puppy linux to work correctly after having the same grapphic issues on that OS when I first installed it. But some how I managed to get the right drivers. But as I like ubuntu more, I would appriciate your help with figuring this out
ps. when I try to setup screen resolution in System>Settings>"resolution", Ubuntu says "unknown display" (marked with red color).
Yesterday I spent a good couple of hours putting together a video. When I shut down, Lives flushed my entire project because it uses a tmp working directory and places it as default in tmp.Today, I changed the working directory to Video, thinking this would be safe. Instead, the programme quit half-way through editing and I have now lost another good couple of hours.is there any way of saving my project?I can still see the .lay file but there doesn't seem to be any way of opening it.

It has an issue with the kernel and ram files not being where configured, but I tell it to save them anyway. When I go back in the section hasn't been saved...??

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have added a couple of clips (1080p50 XVid) to a project, and each of them play fine in the Clip Monitor. I want to add these clips to the timeline and add the Dissolve transition between them.
I have achieved the above and when I click on the Play button on the Project Monitor, I can see the project playing including the transition. All fine so far.
After this first play of my new project, I have tried to move the playback position bar and once I do so, the project monitor goes black. From this point on, I cannot see my project playing whether I start playback from the beginning or from an arbitrary mid-point. I may see a flicker of an image, and the transition effect may appear but that is it until I quit Kdenlive and start again.
I'm stumped as to what could cause this. I did wonder if it was because I was using onboard graphics, but I have upgraded that element of the computer today with no change in the result.
Computer specifications are as follows:
* Ubuntu 10.04LTS Lucid Lynx
* Intel E3200 Dual Core Celeron 2.4GHz
* 1GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
* MSI NVidia 8400GS 512MB Graphics Card
I know the machine doesn't have the highest specification in the world, and perhaps more RAM is needed for this job. I don't believe this to be the causing factor in this problem though considering playback is initially achieved.
Following a search of the internet, I've attempted two possible ways of resolving this: disabling Compiz, starting Kdenlive from the terminal using 'env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 kdenlive' and running the Config Wizard. Neither has given the resolution.
I am looking for a daemon that will set the CPU to lower frequency if its temperature is going too high. I used an application like this in Windows.

Ideally, it would also have a generic xml/rpc interface for easily updating information screens via iphone/android. I'm contemplating whipping something up in jquery to run in a fullscreen browser, but have a feeling I might be reinventing the wheel.
