Ubuntu Multimedia :: Any Way Of Saving Project?
Feb 22, 2010
Yesterday I spent a good couple of hours putting together a video. When I shut down, Lives flushed my entire project because it uses a tmp working directory and places it as default in tmp.Today, I changed the working directory to Video, thinking this would be safe. Instead, the programme quit half-way through editing and I have now lost another good couple of hours.is there any way of saving my project?I can still see the .lay file but there doesn't seem to be any way of opening it.

I have added a couple of clips (1080p50 XVid) to a project, and each of them play fine in the Clip Monitor. I want to add these clips to the timeline and add the Dissolve transition between them.
I have achieved the above and when I click on the Play button on the Project Monitor, I can see the project playing including the transition. All fine so far.
After this first play of my new project, I have tried to move the playback position bar and once I do so, the project monitor goes black. From this point on, I cannot see my project playing whether I start playback from the beginning or from an arbitrary mid-point. I may see a flicker of an image, and the transition effect may appear but that is it until I quit Kdenlive and start again.
I'm stumped as to what could cause this. I did wonder if it was because I was using onboard graphics, but I have upgraded that element of the computer today with no change in the result.
Computer specifications are as follows:
* Ubuntu 10.04LTS Lucid Lynx
* Intel E3200 Dual Core Celeron 2.4GHz
* 1GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
* MSI NVidia 8400GS 512MB Graphics Card
I know the machine doesn't have the highest specification in the world, and perhaps more RAM is needed for this job. I don't believe this to be the causing factor in this problem though considering playback is initially achieved.
Following a search of the internet, I've attempted two possible ways of resolving this: disabling Compiz, starting Kdenlive from the terminal using 'env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 kdenlive' and running the Config Wizard. Neither has given the resolution.

I'm working on a digital signage project for my burning man camp.My display needs to cycle, on a timer, among various pieces of content, including:
* images
* video
* flash content
* information screens (vanilla xhtml)
Ideally, it would also have a generic xml/rpc interface for easily updating information screens via iphone/android. I'm contemplating whipping something up in jquery to run in a fullscreen browser, but have a feeling I might be reinventing the wheel.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I have VLC player running and its becoming increasingly frustrating to have to consistently change my VLC equalizer options as soon as I start the program. Is there a way to save this?
Also, everytime I click on a song that I want to listen to, a new VLC window opens up. Is there a way to be able to click on a song and not have a new window show up, stop the old song, and have the new song play?

Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is not saving the changes I make. I saw a couple of thread about this that had links to instructions on how to install CCC, but it still doesn't work for me.
I start CCC with 'sudo amdcccle' and the GUI appears. I can use it to make changes; however, it never saves them. After clicking OK, it instructs me to restart the system. After a reboot all the setting are back to the default.
I have installed CCC three different ways:
1) sudo aptitude install --without-recommends fglrx-amdcccle | tee fglrx-amdcccle.log
2) sudo envyng -t
3) sudo ./ati-driver-installer-10-2-x86.x86_64.run
In all cases, the fglrx driver works, and 'sudo amdcccle' brings up the GUI, but the changes are gone after a reboot.
Hmm, at the moment, when I click "Apply" and the "Do you want to keep these settings?" 15 second countdown box appears, no changes occur even temporarily.
I've tried doing a fresh install of 9.04, then upgraded to 9.10 (I have problems with the 9.10 command line installer not installing grub) among other things.

I use RipperX to rip CD's on my Ubuntu home server. The files it rips and encodes are in mp3 and they are all fine.
However the system is not saving id3 information for the final two tracks, despite having all the information.
You can see what I'm describing in these images: [URL]
If you want more information just say, I'll get back to you.

When i installed Ubuntu, everything worked fine, sound drivers installed automatically and volume was perfect.Then one day as I was talking to a friend on skype, I tried changing the output to speakers from my headset during the call and i didnt get any output. I tried changing a few settings, can't remember which ones exactly until I noticed someone had pulled the audio cable from the back of my PC. I replaced it but I started getting very very low sound.I found out about alsamixer and when I ran it, I found that the volume on that device was turned down, i turned it up and voila! sound back to normal.However, now when I reboot, my sound goes down again. I have tried deleting the asound.state file and running the save command, "sudo alsactl store 0" I think, as someone suggested, but no cigar.

All of a sudden today there was no display on my Ubuntu PC. It seems to be powering on - I get the LG screen when the monitor is switched on - but it goes into "Power Saving Mode". How do I diagnose this? I already unplugged and plugged. Monitor is connected to a graphics card - no change when I switched to VGA.

I listen to a radio show that broadcasts online a lot named ChatterBox Video Game Radio, and when i e-mailed one of the hosts about retrieving archived shows since the site didn't have any archiving of old shows or a link to it. Alon was nice enough to send me one of their old web pages with a HUGE list of archives but it's only the xml source code of the page. since the page isn't live of course, and because of the how he had to send me the code for the page and not a hyperlink to the page, i have the source code. now going through the source code of the page he emailed to me, i can find links to .mp3 files and i can open them and listen to the shows in web browsers, but i was hoping to save them to my computer forfuturelistening.URL]ww.chatterbox'ssite.com/whatever/anotherfolder/showiwanttosave.mp3 in firefox quicktime comes in and lets me listen (as long as my internet connection is active) but wont enable me to save because i dont have the pro version of quicktime. quicktime is good, but i dont use it enough to actually buy the product, and i'm not going to buy the product for just a one time use. is there another way to where i can save this file using the address from the source code (and the ChatterBox allows listeners to save their shows to computer for free, so it not some work around to rob them of money. i fully support them) without having to buy quicktime 7 pro(a product i never really use)?

Initially, Debian detected my M-Audio soundcard right off, and things were going great, until I tried to get a Logitech webcam working. Got video going, but no audio, so I installed cheese, alsa-base and alsa-utils, and played around with settings according to copious forum threads dedicated to the problem of Linux and webcams, all to no avail. Then I had NO SOUND, until I did a alsa-conf, which detected and (re)set my M-Audio card, until reboot, then again, NO SOUND. Settings were not saving through reboot.
So I purge removed alsa-base and alsa-utils, hoping that things would magically revert to pre-webcam experiment. Still no sound. I have given up on the webcam idea; I'll use my XP Pro laptop for that. But I need sound on this Linux box. Oh and when I'm playing ....., etc. the soundcard itself is making chatter noises to the beat of the music. This soundcard was working perfectly before I started the webcam debacle, so it's not a hardware issue.

This is more times I have encountered, with my browsers - Epiphany, Iceweasel,. GNU/Linux Debian SID. Though it is not consistent - on and off. I don't know how to recreate the environment. But though it says, it is downloading but when I go to the folder/directory, it's not there....this is frustrating as sometimes my download takes a while to find out that after it download, nothing is there. litterally nothing.Maybe it's in a temp folder but I don't know where to look for it -- (Epiphany).

I'm currently on vacation, and noted that the kdenlive version on my laptop (running 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 with KDE-4.4.4) will crash when loading a kdenlive file that has an audio track previously saved.
ie one can no longer reload a project, after saving it, if one has an audio track in the project.
I note my desktop (just before I went on vacation) did not have this behaviour. Has anyone else encountered this?
When I get back from vacation, I'll compare the packages between the two (ie between laptop and desktop). I note these packages on my laptop, which may or may not be relevant.
Code:
kde4-kdenlive-0.7.7.1-1.pm.2.1.x86_64
libmlt++3-0.5.6-1.pm.1.16.x86_64
python-mlt-0.5.6-1.pm.1.16.x86_64
libmlt2-0.5.6-1.pm.1.16.x86_64

I did an installation of amd64 testing with KDE 5 three days ago, and I noticed that my session is not restored upon login. I have this option checked at my kde system setting.
A quick search led me the next bug+patch: [URL] ....
(See also [URL] ....)
I did notice that files in ~/.config/session/ are created, but apparently not read upon login.
I tried to send a reply to the relevant bug 796062 but the email bounced back.
Having problem with latest testing and kde5 session restore?

I've recently got a problem. I've installed projectM, the pulse audio version. It worked fine until a couple of days. I noticed, that the visualization isn't synchron with the music. Then I opened pulse audio to check the volume controls. The blue bars showing the intensity of the loudness don't move at all, it's all gray. ProjectM can't analyze the music and therefor cannot visualize correctly.

I want to resume a fantastic old laptop from 1993, the "IBM THINKPAD X86 Model" with 130,544KB of RAM. I love to think a new life for that unused hardware. I have a working usb port (not functional as BOOT) and a working cdrom/dvd device ( not functional as BOOT too) but the NIC is dead and don't have the Floppydisc device. I have a windows2000 professional on it, with a working connection ADSL via modem USB.
- At first for resolve the BOOT problem i download wubi.exe: wubi dont find the internet connection (probably because it's via USB), and it cant download the ISO - I try the WUBI installation on offline mode, with the relative ISO ( the "Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS (Lucid Lynx)" ):
the installation work but it's stop at the "verify of the system" and the system doesn't work, probably because that Distro of Ubuntu it's a Desktop version, and that need 256MB of RAM and the Thinkpad have less memory. I need to install xubuntu on this machine but on the wubi offline installation don not exist that ISO. I don't want to surrender, this machine MUST have a new life!
P.S: when i'll install the system, i want to open the laptop and restore and redesign the plastic and much more! and i'll want to insert all the project here...

I am trying to get a git repo up and running for a project. I currently am running git-daemon through xinetd, and can pull from the repo but not push back to it.
/etc/xinetd.d/git-daemon currently looks like this:
Code:
service git {
socket_type = stream
wait = no
user = gitman
group = gitman
server = /usr/bin/git-daemon
server_args = --inetd --reuseaddr --base-path=/home/gitman/root --export-all
--enable=receive-pack --verbose --syslog /home/gitman/root
log_on_failure += USERID }
And /var/log/messages looks like this:
Code:
Jun 15 15:25:14 dev1 xinetd[27922]: xinetd Version 2.3.14 started with libwrap
loadavg labeled-networking options compiled in.
Jun 15 15:25:14 dev1 xinetd[27922]: Started working: 1 available service
Jun 15 15:25:43 dev1 xinetd[27922]: START: git pid=27927 from=209.XXX.XXX.106
Jun 15 15:25:43 dev1 git-daemon[27927]: Extended attributes (22 bytes) exist
<host=dev1.aea.us.com>
Jun 15 15:25:43 dev1 git-daemon[27927]: Request receive-pack for '/EPA.git'
For some reason, the push request goes through, then stops and hangs. I went to lunch for an hour, and still nothing.

I just started taking AP Computer Science A at my high school and we are learning to program in Java. At school we use Windows XP laptops with Jcreator but at home I just have my desktop with Ubuntu 10.04. I installed NetBeans 6.8 with no issues but can't figure out how to import and be able to work on my Jcreator projects from school. Not sure if this is the right section but I really need to get something working for school.

I just finished my first bash script for moving around mp3s based on their ID3 tags. So I'm fairly new to this kind of stuff!Now I need a small program for Stop Motion. I need it to be light, To preview the camera frame, and some number of previous shot frames, via "onion skining" and surprise surprise, to control my camera.The thing is that I'm thinking of writing it in Python2.6 because I believe that it will be much more efficient and fun.
My question is:
a) Is this project small enough for me to tackle (considering I'm a freelance and currently theres no job to be found)
b) Would you propose an alternative language and why?
c) What about a nice link for learning a bit of Python!

Does anyone have a recommendation for project management software? We don't need anything too fancy - just boiler plate tasks, time lines, Gantt and Pert charts, etc. We would like to put the area on the web with Apache using SSL/TLS and password authentication or client authentication (and an alternate port).

I want to deploy xubuntu on several computers for a long term use. I (not surprisingly) didn't like unity, and want to use a lightweight desktop with more or less classical design. Unity, Gnome 3 and KDE are not a solution, so the best thing that works for me is xfce on top of xubuntu. But... I heard some rumors on the net that this project is dying. So I want to know what is the status of this project?
Is it a live and kicking project with a growing community, or a remnant of the past with a small group of amateurs that keep it alive as a hobby. I need to rely on a solid project with a strong support that can't fade away in seconds. Same question about the 'ubuntu' part of 'xubuntu'. I'm sure there are people around here that follow those projects closely and can describe the situation.
