Slackware :: Kdestartupconfig4 Does Not Exist Or Fails - Error Code Is 127?

Nov 21, 2010

I got a problem with my Slackware installation after upgrading to slackware-current. I made a clean 13.1 install on my laptop, then I logged in as root, connected to the net and upgraded to slackware-current. Then, after rebooting, I try to log in to kde as root but I get this error:
Code:
kdestartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. The error code is 127. Check your installation. After getting these errors, I made a completely new fresh installation but I got the same errors again.

I even added another user with the adduser command just in case that was the problem but that didn't help. I can't log in to KDE.

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Connection Fails To Go Past Router

May 16, 2011

So up until I updated from Opensuse 11.3 to 11.4, I hadn't any issues with my network connection. At least none worth mentioning. Once I installed 11.4, I've had weird issues with varying lengths of connection. Sometimes I can't connect anywhere, sometimes I can only get to the router, sometimes I'm 100%. I'd fiddle with YAST until everything worked. I honestly have no clue whether or not anything I did had any effect.

Enough of the iffy history, here's what's happening now. For the past few weeks up until last night, I have been at 100% connectivity. I never turned off my computer until last night (it just shut itself off, like the cord was unplugged. I dunno what happened, maybe it was my foot, maybe the PSU. I think it has happened before.). When I turned it back on, I was only able to connect as far as my router (192.168.1.1, a D-Link Gaming router that has always been very good to me). I could not make it to my modem (192.168.0.1, a Quest DSL modem. Once I can get here, then usually I'm good to go 100%).

I tried again this afternoon, and no change. I then get the crazy idea to unplug the ethernet cable from it's PCI-card home and return it to the onboard port (which I long ago declared defunct). Immediately after plugging it into that port, I ran "ping 192.168.0.1" and I started getting returns. I open up Firefox and try to load an external page, and nothing happens. I go back to the console that I was pinging from, and it had stopped. I start pinging my router, and no luck. What I conclude from my little experiment is that the router is not at fault.

1. It did not change at all between being at 100% and being at 0% after reboot.
2. I was able to get returns from the modem, past the router, for a brief period of time while using the defunct ethernet port.

Since I never had these problems before updating to 11.4, I'm inclined to believe that it was the update that started these problems.

OpenSUSE Install :: KDE Login On 11.4 Fails (after Installing Patches)

May 22, 2011

I m try to explain the structure I tried to use here:Symptoms: Describes what is happening right now What happened: Describes the history leading to the problem My tries so far: Describes, what I did (so far in vain) to clean up the problem Questions: I already searched the forum (see "My tries so far") but missed to write down the URLs for the threads. (So they aren't mentioned under "My tries so far")

Symptoms: The system boots up ok, I get to the KDE login, but for both my user account and the root account, the login fails. After entering username and password a progressbar comes up. This gets to 3/4 (if I counted the steps correctly) then stops. If I wait for several minutes, the screen will finally just turn black. (It is *not* switched to suspend or somesuch by DPMS; I didn't wait for that turning black in all tries described below) I can login on a console into the system.

System Intel CPU Core2, E6750 Suse 11.4, 64 Bit (both original and backup system) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop x86_64 (backup system) / vmlinuz-2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop (original system) KDE: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6" (on the the backup system, because I don't know how it get the info as long as I can't login to KDE)

However, I can log into the user's terminal window from the root account.

I've tried deleting and re-creating the user, but to no avail.

Is there some special file that I could delete before re-creating the user?

The one that holds the (corrupted) authentication data, perhaps?

OpenSUSE Install :: Login Fails Due To Full System Partition?

Oct 18, 2010

I have a problem that I can't login to SUSE in graphical mode. I get to the login prompt; enter my username and password; SUSE starts to do the login but then crashes back to the login prompt. Looking in /var/log/messages doesn't tell me anything useful. However, I noticed that my SUSE system partition is full (at 20 GB). So I think this is the culprit that is stopping my login.

Unfortunately, I can't extend my system partition as it is ext4 (SUSE default) but parted (from SUSE 11.2 live cd) complains that it can't do anything with ext4.

I'm using
OpenSUSE11.2 x86_64
KDE 4.3.5
Linux 2.6.31.14-0.1-desktop

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Login Starter - Set Up A Server - Centralized Username And Password

Jan 21, 2010

I'm new to networks and servers, been using Linux on the desktop for a while now but always relied on the company's IT guy for setting up everyting LAN-based.

Now I want to build up my home LAN, and want to do it with Linux. I've managed to set up LAMP and file share servers.

What I am looking for is information on what I need, and how to set up a server for the following tasks:Centralized Username and Password, that when the user logs into any one of the desktops in the LAN, it uses this for authentication

Something that allows this authentication to be utilized in other servers (file access, web access, router logging, etc.). Something to make it easier for continuing permissions from one service to another. e.g. I have IPCop filtering content, and it has provisions for tracking who is making which request if there is authentication going on. (optionally) to run a script for mounting Samba shares or mapped network drives so from one system to the next. For example, in whatever box somebody logs in, it mounts a server share ("smb://Myserver/users/<username>") to a local folder ("my_user_share").

So;user "fred" ="smb://Myserver/users/fred" and user "wilma" = "smb://Myserver/users/wilma" but both would find their respective one mounted under "~/my_user_share". This would be irrespective of which box they are loggin in with. If the server share location changes (new server/servername), I change it on the server so the next time they log in it points to the right place.

I guess it is similar to Window's Active Directory, though I'm not sure what it's called, how to configure it and what it is and is not capable of doing.

OpenSUSE Network :: NFS Mount Of XFS Fails On 11.3

Jan 12, 2011

I've just upgraded to 11.3 (64 bit) and the nfs client does not quite work. I have 3 mounts I try to make, and 2 out of 3 work. The third seems to mount, but shows an empty directory. There are no errors in /var/log/messages on the 11.3 client or the server. The only difference between the 3 mounts that I can see is that the failing mount is of an xfs system. The other two happen to be ext3. Is that visible to the nfs client? Or is that a red herring? I can still mount all 3 just fine from my other opensuse 11.2 systems.

For info, the server is running opensuse 10.3...

OpenSUSE Network :: DNS Resolution Fails After Crash?

May 20, 2011

My laptop, running OS114, crashed today b/c it ran out of battery. Apparently, apart from the partial loss of an important document, this has wreaked some part of OS.

I can connect to the network w/o problems i.e. I can access the router over it's IP.

I can not, however, open any site in any browser. pinging them does not work too.

the /etc/resolv.conf is blank up to the standard notes from the OS developers. That is, there are no relevant entries there.

I'm using KDE 4.5 with KNetworkmanager, but neither did I find any solution while looking through the menus of KNetworkmanager, nor in Yast "Network".

Networking :: SSH Crashes On Login While Any RSA/DSA Keys Exist

Apr 9, 2010

My company uses (as do many others) a common set of keys between the development machines. This has always seemed to work until recently... now the presence of any keys (server-side) causes the SSH server to crash, and the client immediately gets kicked. The interesting part is that the ONLY clients who crash the server are the ones with the common keys. If you are an unknown host, then you are prompted with a login, and you can get in. From the client you see this:

Code:
[root@localhost ~]# ssh localhost
Last login: Fri Apr 9 14:36:44 2010 from jjinno.foobar.local
Connection to localhost closed.
And from the server (the same box in this case) you see this:
Code:
Apr 9 14:37:59 cld10-2 kernel: sshd[19967]: segfault at 00000000000000f0 rip 00002b0bafc8d65b rsp 00007ffffd836c90 error 4

OpenSUSE Network :: IPW2200 Interrupted - NM Fails To Reconnect

Jan 6, 2009

Just having updated from SuSE 10.3 to 11.1 I'm struggling with some network issues. WLAN connection setup with Network manager worked, the connection comes up on login to KDE 3 and works for some time. OpenSUSE Network :: Mobile Broadband Connection Fails

May 22, 2011

I have a Huawei E173u-2 mobile broadband usb stick. It is recognised as a gsm-modem and shows up as such in the networkManager-plasmoid. I have set up the connection details for my ISP (O2), but I can't connect. When I click on the connection, "signal strength" is shown as well as "operator" (o2 - de). The "connection state" changes to "Preparing to connect", then "Setting network address". Then the modem vanishes and comes up again a few seconds later.

Here is the log (/var/log/messages):

Code:

It seems like there is a connection for about 5 seconds, then the modem hangs up and restarts .

The stick works fine with our windows netbook, so I don't think it is a hardware failure.

How do I get this working?

OpenSUSE :: MonoDevelop Fails To Package With Error

Feb 26, 2010

I am brand new to openSUSE (coming from Fedora then Kubuntu then Linux Mint) and I must say I am very impressed. Unfortunately I am also a C# developer and I need Mono (and more specifically MonoDevelop) to function correctly. I installed MonoDevelop from YaST and started with the simple "Hello World" command line project that is included by default. I then added Tarball packaging to the solution and attempted to build the package. It spit out the following error:

"Package creation failed. Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I then tried double clicking on the Tarball package in the solution and it gave me an Unhandled Exception error dialog with a stack trace. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? It's as if I am missing a required package or something. I have tried to install automake but that didn't change anything.

Do you want to log in with the /(root) directory as you home directory? It is unlikely anything will work unless you use a failsafe session" so i click yes. then...

user's $HOME/.drmc file is being ignored. This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and have 644 permissions. user's $HOME directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users. next i click OK, then... your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. if you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem. when i click ok, the login screen reappear again... how to use failsafe sessions.

OpenSUSE Install :: Network Driver - Fails Before The CD Initial Boot Has Finished

Aug 11, 2010

I am attempting a Network installation of openSuse 11.3 on an old desktop which has IBM Boot Manager so that I can boot to one of three OSs, openSuse being the third. Sadly the installation of openSuse fails before the CD initial boot has finished. Looking at the text log of the starting process the problem appears to be a driver and the last line of text where it stalls refers to eata driver.

There are 4 hard drives in the machine, configured as two RAID 1 arrays driven by a DPT 2144W hardware raid card. (Very old but very good). If I Google eata I get a good deal on SCSI raid and DPT cards but I am out of my depth when they say a kernel module is needed.

Another concern is that the RAID arrays are configured using a bootable DOS configuration disk and once this is done they are recognized by other OSs such as eCS and OS/2. The arrays are just treated as single drives so these OS installations do not interfere with the card configuration. I am concerned because I cannot afford to lose the data on the drives but it appears the linux driver might want to rebuild the arrays.
