Nov 27, 2009OS 11.2. When I try to log in my account I get the message {kstartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. The error code is 1. check}. I can only log in as root. As root, I check the file system and my files are there in /home/Myname. I can run all my programmes. The executable kstartupconfig4 is there.

I want reinstall but PC is not reading CD, But the CD drive is working.
I install UBUNTU 11 in other 6 PCs, and work fine.

I never install Windows on this PC. The original OS was UBUNTU 9.04 and updates.
OpenSUSE :: Wallpaper Over 2 Monitors In KDE4 - SuSE 11.1
Jan 2, 2009I've just installed SuSE 11.1, and have so far been able to get my dual monitor setup to play nice. Both monitors are operational, and function fine from an application point of view (3200x1200 res), but KDE refuses to display my wallpaper over both monitors. In fact, I cannot set the wallpaper for my second monitor at all (it's stuck to the default green SuSE wallpaper or a fixed color). As a side effect: widgets also refuse to be moved from one monitor to the next. Applications can be moved fine, even put half on one monitor and half on the other, but the widgets and the wallpaper refuse to cooperate. This worked fine for me with SuSE 10.3.

Jun 30, 2010I am new to Linux and wow, it did not take me long to run into a huge snag. I am running Suse Linux Enterprise 10 on a laptop and by some strange reason the computer froze from overheating and I was forced to shutdown improperly. Once I restarted it booted right to the command prompt when it usually instead boots to the default user. I managed to get gnome running using the "startx gnome" command. But when gnome loads, none of my normal extentions load like my wireless driver, the sound driver, etc. how to restore gnome to automatically load the default user on start up or fix any other damage I might have done? lol

Aug 14, 2011My KDE4 stopped booting after installing the last (11.7) ATI driver and uninstalling it later (display turned off at all while booting).
I get a login screen, though. When I enter my password and press ENTER, it tries to start but returns to the login screen in a couple of seconds. Here's a snippet from kdm.log:

Slackware :: KDE4 - X Won't Start On System
Jan 3, 2010I did a clean install, and so far I haven't noticed any serious problems with KDE4, although I can't find what I'm looking for, usually. I don't use my laptop much though. I also did a clean install on another system to 13.0 about the same time. X won't start on that system, it can't figure out the hardware I guess.
So I've just been using the command line. I don't really need a graphical interface on that system anyway. Right now I'm using the motherboard graphics support, but I will probably install a video card in a PCI-E slot and try X again. The system that I just upgraded from 12.2 (LUKS encrypted volumes and LVM) to 13.0 tonight has a number of problems. This was an upgrade, not a clean install. Based on my experience so far on this system, KDE4 does not seem to be ready for prime time. It is buggy, the menu system is more difficult to navigate than KDE3, and there are some apps I just can't find (e.g., Kedit). Overall it seems to have fewer apps than KDE3. Either that or they are well hidden well enough that I can't find them. My first impression was that KDE4 had clean lines and a modern appearance.......
SUSE :: 10.2 Won't Startup - Error Message "Could Not Start Kstartupconfig. Check Your Installation"
Mar 16, 2010I foolishly changed the mount point of a partition on a HDD which Linux was not in fact using, and now when I try to start up I get a message box stating:- Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation.
How do I recover the situation. I do not have an up to date recovery disc. I do have a full bootup disc of Suse 11.2 - could I use the opportunity to update without losing all my personal files, or should I use the old 10.2 disks? The first essential is to get something back up and working.

Sep 5, 2010I'm using KDE because it allows me to customize my window management more than Gnome. I come from a background of TWM, CTWM, and then the various KDE versions.I recently upgraded my main desktop from hardy to lucid, and kde4 is a bit strange to me. First, my session-managed xterms seem to start with a $PWD=$HOME/Documents when I login. I really want them to start in $HOME. Where can I adjust this? I've managed to figure out how to get rid of this nonsense in quicklaunch, but I don't know where session managed xterms are started from.
I also have one of these silly 16:9 monitors, so I have a lot more horizontal space to waste on icon managers than vertical space, so I like to put my panel on the left edge of the screen. Is there any way to make the taskmanager use the text from a window's titlebar rather than the icon? I've looked at a few replacement taskmanagers, and none seem to give as much information when run vertically as the kde3.5 taskmanager did.
OpenSUSE Install :: Privoxy To Start Up During Boot On 11.3 Kde4?
Aug 23, 2010I am completely fed up trying to do it. I had no problems with 11.0. It refuses to start up during boot like tor. I added tor to the kde start menu and it works just fine after boot. Privoxy refuses to start up during boot. I have to go into SU mode in terminal, then it works. I need to be able to start Privoxy the same way. I tried everything from chown / chmod commands, and it made no difference. I have it set for 777, and my name along with root. I also added the group privoxy to my user ID. I need the computer to disregard that it is a root program.

General :: Compiling Fortran Code In SuSe 11.3
May 18, 2011I can compile an old fortran program on my macbook using the Absoft fortran compiler and the command:f90 'W132 C SOURCECODE.flU77lV77
Unfortunately I cannot find f90 for linux. I can, however, find gfortran. However, gfortran does not recognize the flag -W132 and when I remove -W132 the compiler thinks all lines end after a certain number of characters. Does anyone know what flags call the equivalent type of compilation using gfortran? Is it possible I need to use f90? If so, is there a free version of f90 for linux?

Jun 27, 2011If I have a hard-disk with Ubuntu fully installed on it and I want to - all of a sudden - use Windows XP, is it mandatory that I firstly format the hard-disk first? So far, I have used two versions of Windows XP; one of them is from a few years before the other. Both copies of Windows XP when in start-up from booting from CD are causing errors. One of them is a BSOD error (0x0000007B) and the next Windows CD is stopping and giving me an error with setupdd.sys (error code 4). Is it required that the hard-disk is formatted before you even put a Windows boot CD in?

Using the Grsync GUI, I searched for the source and destination folders, and then executed the command. Here is the output:
