Does the gnome live cd install a "live version" of OpenSUSE or a "standard version? I used knoppix 4.x long time ago... I don't want to end up with a default user called linuxuser and not be able to save any changed unless I created an additional read/write partition.

I am now log-in as live user, but I can't find the shotcut for installation on desktop "install to hard drive" but using the terminal, there's a file under Desktop, 'liveinst.desktop" I tried running it, graphical installation will appear, but during copying to hard disk, it says bad media.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to run the Live version of OpenSuSE 11.0 from a CD, I can run from the command line, only. No graphics at all. No error messages. Tried some of the other suggested fixes on other threads, but nothing worked. The machine in an old HP OmniBook.
What I really want to do is reformat the HDD and install OpenSuSE on it, but the machine has no DVD drive, so I downloaded an iso image of the live version of 11.0 and burned a bootable CD. It boots, but I can get no X-Window, or the KDE desktop. I'd really like to convert this old machine from Windows 98 to Linux, but seem to have hit a brick wall.
I am trying to create an usb install from an gnome-live cd. All I have done is not working:

All I can get are errors saying cang find kernel or error like that. I have used linux and windows environment. The iso I am using is fine, I am sure because I have instaled it on two pcs. Iso gnome-live >> usb (bootable to install)

Boots fine on another pc with on-board radeon pci-x.It also doesn't work in latest Virtualbox. I can't browse any of partition with any of browsers inside liveCD including dolphin. When i try to access it says: There is no application installed that can open files of the type block device (inodelockdevice). Do you want to try to install one? Is there another option to access partitions because I can't install another browser on live cd.

I could enable desktop effects.Now I have tried update in that live session.. and when gone to that software application it asked and I downloaded 130Mb of software.flash player..etc... but I still did not have desktop effects... So my question is can it be done with my configuration... Works fine in ubuntu with Open drivers (radeon)...I would really like to make it possible on live CD.. because I dont wanna install and then see that I can not enable it...I know that most driver manipulations need restart.. so live session can not do that...But can you say if I could even make it happen on Raden X600? View 7 Replies View RelatedI've currently have opensuse 11.3 installed on my system and I would like to do a new fresh install of opensuse 11.4. I therefore downloaded the DVD 11.4 x64 install. However, when booting the kernel from the DVD (that leads to the installation procedure) I obtain the following error message "unable to handle kernel paging request". The system then stops and I need to perform a hard reset to restart again. The same happens if I try do boot from the live gnome CD. Thus, I'm unable to install opensuse 11.4 at all due to this problem. A possible solution would be to perform a hot update (i.e. changing repositories in my 11.3 and perform a zypper refresh and zypper dup). But I'm a bit scared of doing this since this will install the problematic kernel. how to circumvent this problem ? Is there any updated version of the live CD? I've been able to install opensuse 11.4 x64 without problems at home. Now I'm trying to install it at work. The current kernel (at work) is:

I have a SONY PCG-R505TE laptop with an external CD/DVD, it connects via what I think is a PCMCIA card, the drive came with the laptop and functions fine. I currently have Windows XP running on this laptop, but it's very slow.I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso and sucessfully burned it to a CD.I have the laptop bios set to boot from CD, and it appears to be doing that no problem. When it boots I first see the welcome screen, then the openSUSE Installer, whether I select the Live (GNOME) option, or the Installation.. it loads the kernel, and then loads the KIWI boot systemit is on the third event, waiting for CD/DVD dvices to appear... that something seems to fail... I then see Failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drivethen a rebootexception and it reboots in 120 seconds.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've made a Live CD of version 10.04 on a machine running 10.04 (amd64). The disk works fine on another machine but does not boot on the machine that created it. The CD/DVD is new and works for other things so I don't think it is this. The Live CD gets to the ISOLINUX screen but instead of "Loading" the screen goes blank and the system shuts down. I've tried everything I can think of (remember the disk works fine on another machine).

#1 : Open synaptic package manager and add the PPA (Settings -> Repositories -> Other Softwares, then add the PPA given below ) for GNOME 3.

#2 : Then, update the repository packages (using Reload button).
#3 : Now search for gnome 3 package and install it.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome3-builds

But This does not work with Lucid 10.04 as the software repository for Lucid (referenced above) does not exist.
When i click on "installation / Live Gnome CD" a screen appears then it disappears fast and i get a black screen

Short question: It has been possible in earlier releases to create boot floppies from CD install version, for those PCs who haven't a bootable CD drive.11.2 is deployed as a DVD iso, but I need CD isos for an older laptop with a bootable CD drive only, not DVD. Is there a similar possibility for 11.2 also available?I want a full install, not the readonly "Live" versions.
