I hear that the non-live version of F15 has an option to choose the btrfs filesystem. I only see the DVD version as a non-live version and it's 3.4 Gigs. Is there a non-live CD version available?

This is our first time choosing and installing linux. Our other servers are all windows 2008 x64. We were told to install fedora 13. I can only find a download for the desktop version and we're looking for the SERVER x64 download. Could I please get a link?

I downloaded and burnt the ISO imagw of Fedora 15 onto a CD. I wanted to try Fedora 15 before installing. So, I booted from the CD. However, in the list of Applications, I do not find Libreoffice Suite. Wil I need to download Libreoffice separately after installing Fedora 15?

I will be installing Fedora 15 on my work laptop this weekend and am wondering: Could I use BTRFS as the default filesystem? Why or why not?
My default layout looks like this:
/boot
LVM
swap
/
/home
This would mean that all the LVM partitions would become BTRFS. Or maybe only the /home would become BTRFS.
Different threads state that you shouldn't use BTRFS yet on production systems, but there are also plans to include it in F16 as the default FS.
Why should (or shouldn't) I use BTRFS as opposed to EXT4?
is it possible? If I select btrfs as /boot partition I get this error:
"Bootable partitions cannot be on an btrfs filesystem"

I'm currently running the XFCE Spin of Fedora 15 (Xedora, as I like to call it (; ) on 64 bit, so sometimes I need a 32 bit environment to try stuff out.
I recently installed Linux Mint on a partition formatted to btrfs, and this is where my problems start, as I have no idea how to add this installation to my existing GRUB configuration. The grub.cfg on the Mint partition looks like this (GRUB2 btw.):

Does the gnome live cd install a "live version" of OpenSUSE or a "standard version? I used knoppix 4.x long time ago... I don't want to end up with a default user called linuxuser and not be able to save any changed unless I created an additional read/write partition.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to run the Live version of OpenSuSE 11.0 from a CD, I can run from the command line, only. No graphics at all. No error messages. Tried some of the other suggested fixes on other threads, but nothing worked. The machine in an old HP OmniBook.
What I really want to do is reformat the HDD and install OpenSuSE on it, but the machine has no DVD drive, so I downloaded an iso image of the live version of 11.0 and burned a bootable CD. It boots, but I can get no X-Window, or the KDE desktop. I'd really like to convert this old machine from Windows 98 to Linux, but seem to have hit a brick wall.
I have 9.04 on a live cd. Is it worth upgrading the cd for live usage? Would there be any performance improvements?

I want to install it in English.I live in a French province of Canada was I automatically directed to download a French version of Ubuntu based on my geography? Or, did Ubuntu detect that the version of windows I am running is French?The date and time are French, but nothing else.I just found this laptop in a garbage pile recently... so I'm not sure what's going on with the language in windows.

Currently, it has a Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz single-core, 1 GB RAM, 110 GB hard drive, Intel (GMA) 852GM 32 MB shared video. I was planning to install red hat on it but don't seem to have any easy way of download the iso so I going with fedora 14 URL...Can some one please tell my if I'm heading in the right direction. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've made a Live CD of version 10.04 on a machine running 10.04 (amd64). The disk works fine on another machine but does not boot on the machine that created it. The CD/DVD is new and works for other things so I don't think it is this. The Live CD gets to the ISOLINUX screen but instead of "Loading" the screen goes blank and the system shuts down. I've tried everything I can think of (remember the disk works fine on another machine).

When I boot into the live cd version both of these options are there without fail - any ideas why the difference occurs??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to install Debian Stable 8 Jessie. I've tried the main website, of course, first. But there are a lot of options there to download Debian 8: CD, DVD, Live etc. I downloaded debian-live-8.0.0-amd64-lxde-desktop.iso and I booted live in VirtualBox. It boots fine and the operating system looks in order.
Questions/problems:
1. The desktop icon for the installer says "Install Debian sid". But from what I know "sid" is unstable version. I do not want unstable, nor testing. I just want normal Stable. Did I got the wrong version? The website is a bit confusing about which version is which.
2. How do I check the md5 of the iso? I know how to do that with other distros, they usually specify it near the download link and I can execute in terminal the command 'md5sum' followed by the specific linux distro iso and then compare the numbers. But I can find no such thing for Debian. I searched the website but could not find any clear info.
3. After I install, what should I do in order to make Iceweasel work with Flash and multimedia codecs? I also need Skype and the proprietary Nvidia drivers.
And if I enable these non free, do I get automatic updates for them like for the rest of standard Debian software? Or, if not, what should I do?
The idea is that I want a system that is as stable and bug free as possible, but I won't use many apps beyond these ones. I don't need the latest and greatest software as long as these get security updates. Should I be ok with this configuration?
I'm looking for suse 9.3, was looking around the download section and couldn't find it.
